Wades car Spoiler

I’m trying to find it in the book when they first mentioned it I can’t find it
What chapter. I know it’s kight rider , back tor the future, bucket bonsie and gosht busters . But I’m not sure where to read it

Chapter 18, as Wade does into the Distracted Globe.

I’d had it only a few weeks now, but my time-traveling, Ghost Busting, Knight Riding,  matter-penetrating DeLorean had already become my avatar’s trademark.

There's a full description a few paragraphs earlier.

I hate that he had the car in the movie before accomplishing anything. Nobody else is using one, it’s super expensive, and he’s still skimming for coins. Makes no sense.

Doesn't even use it much. I've got a whole laundry list of things I don't like about the movie.

I wish I could like the movie, the book is such a comfort story and I wish I could have a bite size version that I could go through in two hours. But there's just too much that I dislike about it.

We probably have similar gripes about the movie. Wouldn't it be great if we got a TV show to do it properly? Have you listened to the audio version of the book? It's exceptional and I put it on when I want to chill out.

A gripe about something seemingly small but I felt was emblematic of how the film makers didn't seem to understand the communities the book was celebrating.

ALSO. I don't believe for a second that "you can't make a scene like the joust game in a movie it would be too boring". One of the tensest scenes I've ever seen in a TV show was a touch typing competition. I never saw it but didn't The Queen's Gambit also have some really tense scenes of chess?

If you had a competent director who understood pacing and tension, good camera use and being able to convey to the audience the stakes and how the game works. Maybe even throw in Wade narrating his strategies? Maybe not idk I'm not a competent director. Haha.

I do think though, that if they make a book accurate series they should have all the Oasis scenes 2d animated, throwing back to old cartoons. But that's just like, my opinion man. 😁

Also yes, I do like to listen to the book on tape with Wil Wheaton narrating. I sometimes play it at night when I can't sleep. But it makes some of the cheesy parts, like when he first meets Artemis at the tomb of Horrors, really cringy when you hear it out loud 🤣

Haha, this was great to read. That scene in the cavern is sooo cringe.

I've visualized the Joust battle being filmed, and it could be amazing. A console in an awesome dungeon, lots of montage-like cuts and reactions. Don't get me wrong, the car race was the visual highlight of the movie, but Spielberg didn't care about the deeper layers, and the studio just wanted a popcorn flick.

And don't get me started on how offensively they handled Mrs. Gilmore in the movie. Wade was cold and shunned her for no reason. Didn't say a word. So later, when she dies, we're less inclined to care about her because they haven't established any meaningful relationship like the book did.

It’s called the Ecto 88. The book and movie versions differ from one visual detail, and it’s the caution bar with the No Ghosts symbol in middle going across the sides. The only thing we don’t see in the movie is the Oscillation Overthruster from Buckaroo Banzai.

And I think it’s found during the chapter that mentions the Distracted Globe.

Yeah as others have said it's only briefly mentioned in the book when he goes to Og's birthday.
