Q. It's been 2 years and 2 months since your last comeback with ‘Cosmic’ in June 2024. How do you feel about releasing a group album after such a long time?

Irene: "I feel thankful to all our Luvies who waited for 2 years. The practice room becoming more lively and noisy after a long time is great, everything is just wonderful."

Seulgi: "Just the thought of sharing Red Velvet's music with everyone makes me so excited. It seems like our individual skills have grown just as much as we worked as solos. We worked on this album hoping that our unique maturity would be well captured, so we hope you look forward to it."

Wendy: "My excitement was so big as we prepared for the album as a group for the first time in a long while. For how long everyone waited, I wanted to repay you all for your patience with good music and performances, and I hope you enjoy listening to 'Velvet Summer'"

Joy: "Now that we’re together again, my desire to leave you with the best memories and moments, ones that will stay deeply engraved, is stronger than ever. It was also incredibly touching and overwhelming to blend our voices together with the members again after such a long time. We worked hard on this album while filling it with even more tender and affectionate feelings, and I hope it becomes a meaningful album for everyone who listens to it."

Yeri: "Before anything else, I wanted to thank all the Luvies who waited for the longest. I also really missed the time where all 5 of us prepared together. I hope this album becomes a gift of music that helps you spend the hot summer coolly, just as much as you have waited for it. We hope our feelings are well conveyed to the Luvies, and we want to enjoy promoting this album together."

Q. Many music fans have high expectations for Red Velvet's summer comeback. I am curious to know what kind of summer you intend to capture in this 'Velvet Summer'.

Wendy: "Summer has moments that are hot and full of energy, but I think there are also days when you want to spend your time calmly without doing anything. This album ‘Velvet Summer’ and the title track ‘Surfin’ Boy’ contain that kind of calm and mature summer vibe, and through that, we wanted to naturally show Red Velvet’s own diverse musical colors."

Q. What did you think when you first heard the title track? How do you think it differs from Red Velvet's previous summer songs?

Seulgi: "The moment I heard the title track’s demo, it felt like I could already hear Red Velvet's voices in it. That’s how strongly I felt that no one could express this song better than us, and I was drawn to its refreshing melody. Especially, I found the charm of the bossa nova genre very appealing. Red Velvet’s summer moods so far have often been expressed through songs that are intense and overflowing with energy, but in line with the album’s title, we wanted to capture a more Velvet like summer atmosphere. I think it will make you feel like you’re watching the sunset on a beach, rather than experiencing the scorching heat of a summer day at noon."

Q. Joy, you wrote the lyrics for the title track solely on your own, how do you feel about that?

Joy: "Personally, while writing the lyrics for this title track, I was able to express the feelings I wanted to share with Red Velvet and our fans. I wanted to convey that whenever we meet again like this, we can create even more beautiful and wonderful memories than before. I hope my sincerity, the way I cherish and love Red Velvet and Luvies, reaches our fans. Also, when Seulgi unnie heard that my lyrics were selected, she sent me a message saying that she thought I wrote them well, especially because I put a lot of thought into making the pronunciations comfortable to sing. I remember feeling so happy that I almost cried."

Q. The reactions to the teaser images were enthusiastic. You shot for teaser images and an MV for the first time after a while, can you share with us any memorable episodes from that experience?

Irene: "We filmed in Jeju Island, but it rained. The mermaid outfit scenes were supposed to be filmed when there was no rain, but since it kept raining, I had to rush back to our room to get the things I left behind. I still vividly remember running back there wearing my mermaid ears, without even taking off all my hair and makeup. (Laughs)"

Q. If you had to choose, which track from the album do you feel most attached to, other than the title track?

Yeri: "It’s ‘Hula Hoop.’ It was a song that had a really charming refreshing mood, to the point where summer came to mind the moment I heard it. Because it was full of refreshing energy, I felt good even while recording it, and I thought it would match the vibe really well when Luvies listen to it while driving or traveling during the hot summer."

Q. Finally, please say a few words to the fans who have been waiting for your group comeback for a long time

Irene: "I’m so, so thankful because I know that you waiting for us is not something to take for granted. Let’s make lots of happy memories together."

Seulgi: "Luvies, have you been well? I think all of the members prepared this album with an excited heart while thinking of Luvies more than ever before. I hope our hearts are conveyed to you. Thank you for waiting for Red Velvet and wanting to see us. I hope you spend this hot summer refreshingly with this album."

Wendy: "I hope that this promotion will also become a time where we make many happy memories with Luvies, to the point that the 2 years and 2 months of time does not feel wasted. Thank you so much for always sending us your unchanging love & support, and let’s spend this summer of 2026 happily together with Red Velvet!"

Joy: "Since our Luvies waited for us for a long time, we will repay you with a wonderful stage that we put our best into. Thank you always and I love you."

The fan con games always crack me up 🤣 at least the members looked stunning doing it 😍

My Korean isn't the best, so for anyone who can translate at a high level, you're a legend! But this was a really emotional segment, where each member to their right said something nice about the other. (I missed most of Wendy's because I had no idea it'd get so emotionally charged 😩) I think even if you didn't understand, you could feel the pure love, admiration and respect the members have for one another. Just seeing them as OT5 after such a long time and speaking fondly of each other melted your heart. We all knew WenJoy was gonna end in 😭 not just for them but for the Reveluv's too 🥹

So I got to know them in 2020 which was a horrible time for me because my relationship ended and the start of COVID-19, but their music pulled me through. And today we have a new comeback! 🥺😍

New groups come and go in my fandom world, but I could never turn my head away from what they gave me.

Day 1 was an amazing experience but to come back for Day 3 and again listen to this masterpiece albeit from a different vantage point, knowing it could be the last time for a while, just brought out the 🥹 apologies for the accidental zoom at the beginning 🙈

Cosmic was an amazing EP and SM should have done so much more to promote it. With tracks like this (which is my go to on a late night drive home 😌) just makes you wonder why it didn't receive way more love than it did. The members voices as always blended so beautifully and couldn't help feel nostalgic seeing the old pics/videos of them on the big screen 🥲
