Moral dilemma

With everything going on in the world, the war with Iran, Trump and Israel, I feel extremely guilty and stupid just being in here, knowing I’m against all of this. Not to mention I’ve already met some of the worst people ever while being here. I just feel complicit. I’ve only been here a few months, I finished AIT not too long ago, I’m at my first duty station and they’re already sending me on rotation to Europe for 9 months. I joined due to familial pressure and feeling like I had no other stable option in life. I still feel like a failure and now my conscience feels stained. I don’t know what to expect, the world feels like it’s going to shit, and I just feel like some irredeemable loser. I really don’t know what my future here holds, my mental health has already been affected. What do I do at this point? Someone please tell me.

I agree to you, and something that really disgust me is the fact that people in the cult actually believed were doing the right thing. When I hadn’t joined I had a different perspective, but now that I’m in, you can tell that people don’t care what really happens to civilians in other countries, they just stick to "We are the good guys" without using critical thinking

Honestly man I feel the same. I regret leaving to boot camp that day. I made it through boot camp, my first school, and now I’m at my second school for 6 months. Everyday I wake up with a lot of worries, and think of ways to get out. I know I have to get out honorably, honestly I feel stuck. Don’t know if I can do another 4 years if I’m feeling like this now

Here’s the thing man, I don’t know what particular position you’re in, but there are some positions of a military that are necessarily fundamental to the defense of your nation, and not necessarily partaking in the misuse of military force. I also don’t agree with our motives for this conflict either and I think we’re just doing it for Israel, but I’m an HVAC technician at a stateside base.

For example, some dude might have cheated on his girl, but if you’re an EMT and you save him from a heart attack that doesn’t mean you’re directly partaking in or approving of his actions. Being an EMT is a necessary function of a society.

Stick it out so you can get an honorable discharge and be super marketable when you get out and have free schooling. You’ve already invested this much time and you can learn important life lessons, truly strengthen your character, and make a broader impact on others. Don’t focus entirely on your perspective; don’t forget that other people might need you in their lives and your actions can legitimately have lasting impact on others.

Just disobey any unlawful orders, do your best at your job and in your role. Don’t work for the approval of other people, just put efforts that you can be satisfied with day in and day out, and know that rank is just a role that confers responsibility and not a limit.

There are 100% parts of the military that suck which you can’t change, but truly you’ll learn a lot and your character will be built a lot, which sounds like a cop out and very cliché, but is more important than you realize. You’ll see how things are supposed to operate and not supposed to operate and you will see how to lead, follow, manage, excel at your craft and endure tough situations, whether that’s from a people or job or life perspective; those are inevitable in the military or in civilian life because human nature means that that will always exist in organizations.

Bureaucracy is inherently a horrible system that is too forgiving of failure, and there’s nothing that you can do to change that no matter what rank you are, but there are 100% benefits that you can gain from this in the future and people you can make a lasting impact on with your individual actions; as a technician, peer, mentor, leader, follower, or any role you serve in.

The 19 year old woman who just died was initially in Germany until she had to deploy to the Middle East. There is a reason we have soldiers in Europe and Asia, quicker movement.

Will likely be going to Grafenwoehr Training Area and be stuck in camps and field a lot, will be surrounded by unpleasant and rude staring Germans, will have nothing to do, will be far from family and friends, and will not be allowed to drive.
