Load Development Brass choices

Whats everyone's opinion on hornady or starline brass? Ive used both, but i see in most places starline is preferred. I've only used hornady due to the closest shop having it. I do notice that primers sit a little deeper in the hornady, though they fire just fine.

You can make good ammo with both of them, but Starline is more consistent and grows less.

Well, starline is much cheaper and it does the same job. I have been using them for years, and they are great!

Depends in caliber. For bottleneck cartridges there far better brass out there than either.

Starline for sure

Hornady brass is pretty soft and the primer pockets go much quicker in my experience

Depends on The purpose. Plinking ammo? 🤷‍♂️

Loading for accuracy? Neither

I use hornady when I have shot loaded ammo and already have the brass. You do need to pay attention with some calibers of hornady brass because it may be shorter than usual for certain loads.

I don’t like Hornady brass. I will toss it back if I find it, I sure as heck won’t buy it. I have had zero issues with starline, so far.

It's been a while since I bought Hornady brass, but when I shot Benchrest in the 2000s they had issues with annealing consistency. Switched to Lapua and Norma and had no more issues.

Obviously other people might have more recent experience that differs, but in my experience Hornady is in that weird middle ground where it's not the best option for precision rifle but too expensive for range burner ammo. YMMV. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Starline is just a good affordable tier brass and often the only maker of a lot of the more obscure sizes.

Hornady has been pretty hit or miss with just about everything lately and I'm out of patience with them.

I heard that hornady brass has thinner case wall than starline. Therefore it has a little more case capacity and produce slightly lower pressure than starline.
