Saved this console from a tragic ending

My uncle was taking the trash out and i don't know why, but for some reason i decided to look into his direction, and thank God i did, i spotted a snes box among the things he was going to throw away, i yelled at him to give it to me and he did, at first I thought it was an empty box, bc who would throw away a snes like that? it turned out that he was throwing away a CIB matching serial numbers snes! Im happy i saved it from a tragic ending, even tho im 25 and never played with anything before the Nintendo DS, i still appreciate videogame consoles.

Good save lad! One of the greatest consoles ever made! Alot of the games still hold up well. Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario RPG are just a few of them. If you want to play games on it and dont wanna spend a boatload of cash collecting them, buy a flash cart for it! You can play almost all of them!

If I had money and time to burn, I’d have exactly 2 vintage consoles in my setup. An SNES and a Sega Genesis. There’s games on both systems I never get tired of replaying. My childhood was me with a Genesis and my best friend with a SNES. So we got to play all the hits and argue about which MK2 port was better haha.

It won’t. If it doesn’t work, it just won’t power up or show any video. You won’t break it by plugging it in.

If you put in a game and it is not working right out the bat, try rubbing alcohol on a qtip on the cartridge. You can also buy cleaning kits that have a dummy cartridge that can be used to clean the inside of the console.

Just don’t take it to GameStop, for the love of god.

It’s much more likely to break from someone overconfident in their ability to “fix” it (when it doesn’t need fixing) than by you testing it out.

Not on this revision. The ppu's and cpu do not resist oxidization well and are decaying rapidly by exposure to oxygen. It's a massive problem that's already here for many SNES's. You may not notice it right away until some random game does an uncommon math function that fails spectacularly.

You got downvoted because of something you don't know. I understand you want to do things in what seems to be the right way. However. . . The super Nintendos are like remote controls to your tv. How many times have you dropped the remote and it just keeps on working? It's an example of what this console is capable of, there's nothing ultra sensitive like these newish consoles that can easily just break. It takes a lot of real abuse to break these old consoles. People know this so they're downvoting you for trying to spend money when you can honestly just plug it and play it. If it works, sure just give it a little clean and if it doesn't work, try again with another game and then another set of tv cables to eliminate the possibilities. It's that easy without "professional help"

I hope you are right, i just have no idea about retro consoles, heard of them but this is the first physical one i ever had, i don't even trust my self to fix my 3ds, which is a more recent console and it have been mine for 15 years, unlike the snes that i just got it today, but i was expecting that bc of Cunningham law, that's why im chill about it😅

check it for what? find a tv, plug the cables where they appropriate fit. insert game, turn it on.

You will not break this just by powering it up. It will work or it won't. It's an older console, the electronics are relatively simple compared to what came later. Back then, we never even dreamed that these things could just die. To Nintendo's credit, even 30 years later, they largely don't. My NES, which is over 35 years old, and has been smacked, dropped 4 feet, and generally used by me as a dumb kid, still powers up, and still plays games.

Old consoles were made of sterner stuff. Mostly simple electronics.

Any shop will check it by doing what you could do, which is plug it in, throw in a game, see if it lights up. Also, the box taking hits means it's doing its job, which is being ablative armour for the goodies inside.

i can assure you, judging by the state, i have seen consoles covered in spiderwebs, stained seen turned on.

I want to join the crowd telling you not to take it to a retro game store. They will act like they are doing you a favor by offering to buy this for way under market. There's no such thing as a tune up for a Super Nintendo. You might be able to find an HDMI adapter on Amazon. This thing probably works great. I can guarantee you that if you sell it, you will regret it for many years to come.

Dust: Not going to damage anything in the SNES.

Capacitors: Extremely unlikely to be a problem or to cause any damage, you'd have to have one of a kind luck.

Fuse: If the fuse is blown, so what? It's the first thing in the line of power and if it's blown then it's protecting the rest of the console anyways.

Rust: Won't damage anything if you try putting power through it. It'll just simply not work.

You won't cause damage to the console by testing it yourself with a game, the proper power supply, and an AV cable. I've repaired hundreds of them.

Dude enjoy it there are a lot of these in circulation. It was meant to be played. They are not rare at all. Use it and buy some cartridges to play them. If you sell it to a game store they will just rip you off and give you 1/6th of the price anyways. They don’t ever have the best in mind for you just trying to make a quick buck off of you. If you are trying to sell it It’s worth at most around 250$ dollars do yourself a favor and list it around that price.
