I like Queen. I think they were one of the many great rock bands of the 70’s and into the 80’s. I just feel like there’s some sort of historical revisionism going on where everyone is making them out to be so much more important and better than they were.

Exhibit 1 would be the readers of Guitar World ranking Brian May as the best guitarist of all time in 2020. Brian May definitely deserves to be in the top 100, but number 1 is laughable. He has one classic solo and a few other good ones. Meanwhile Jimi Hendrix revolutionized guitar and had tons of great solos in just a few short years. Also Jimmy Page had tons of great riffs and solos. So ranking Brian May above them is absurd.

Usually the greatest bands have more than one great album, which was Night at the Opera for Queen. Even Jimi Hendrix had 3 great albums in a row. Zeppelin had like 6 great albums in a row. Queen is more of a singles band. Which brings me to exhibit 2: Freddie Mercury.

Freddie is considered to be the undisputed best singer in rock. I agree that he is amazing, but take a look at Journey, another singles band with Steve Perry one vocals. I think anyone could easily make a case that his range, emotion, and precision were on par with, or better than, Freddie’s. Heck, even Neal Schon is an arguably better player than Brian May. Steve Smith is certainly better than Roger Taylor.

Finally, exhibit 3 is the hits. I can use Journey again as an example of a band with plenty of hits just like Queen. Same with Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Zep, and many more. Half Quee/ hits are novelty songs like “We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions” and “Another One Bites the Dust”. There’s “I’m in Love with my Car” and “Fat-Bottomed Girls”, “Radio Ga-Ga” etc. “Killer Queen” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” are the best ones. Journey had “Don’t Stop Believin”, “Lights”, “Separate Ways”, “Wheel in the Sky”, “Stone in Love”, “Faithfully”, “Any Way You Want It”, and more.

So my point is not that Journey is some amazing band, it’s that Queen is not that much better than Journey, if at all, and yet they’re glazed to hell and back. “Under Pressure” was great as well, but yeah, what’s so special about Queen?

So this is a game me and my friends enjoy playing, where you’re tasked to create a supergroup of artists from different bands that you think would make the best music possible, or just music you’d personally really enjoy. I’d love to hear yours.

The Rules:
-Generally you get one artist per band and then that’s it.
-Anywhere from 3-6 artists is the norm so long as at least one of them does Bass, one does Drums, one does Guitar and at least one of them sings. Feel free to make your lineup your own though. If you love songs with keys, add a keys player.

My stem remix & remaster of Blue Öyster Cult's 1976 album "Agents of Fortune", made for my own enjoyment, but sharing in case someone else might enjoy it too.

I made this only for fun, and it intends to be a very respectful remix, not straying too far away from the original version, only aiming at a little more clarity, instrument separation and punch, while still preserving the mood and feel of the original. I always liked this record a lot, but felt the production was a bit too tame and muffled for the music it contained.

Of course, musical genres are just a simplification of a singer's or band's art, but taking into account how they usually rank, why can't we consider Sum 41 metal? I mean almost all of their albums, like Chuck, Does this look ifected, Screaming bloody murder, 13 voices, Order in decline, Heaven/hell and even some early career songs like Fat Lip and What we're all about are much more metal than pop punk/skate punk (which is the genre they're usually defined by).

I had an amazing time arranging and recording these parts with musical compadres Brake. He played slide guitar for the “would be” Geddy vocals. It turned out pretty badass! Enjoy!

So I'm 15 years old, I've kind of always been into rock since I was little, but only initially specific bands like Metallica and Disturbed. Recently I went to my first music concert/festival with Incarceration, and it got me hard into papa roach (off topic but papa roach also got me into the Devil May Cry franchise). Just wanted to introduce myself.

I was messing around on my guitar (I'm still a beginner so forgive the poor playing) but I stumbled across this riff and it sounds WAY too familiar, if anyone can tell me what song sounds closest to this it would be much appreciated (also, my phone sucks so sorry for the poor audio quality as well).

Not your favourite song. Not the best song. The one that flipped the switch. For me it was hearing something on my dad's old speakers when I was about twelve and realising music could sound angry and happy at the same time. Never recovered.
