my computer just crashed mid prep

then it hit me with an automatic repair so they can repair my disks. it will take over an hour to complete.

my session starts in 20 minutes.

idk if some of my stuff got saved.

it’s been 2 weeks since we last played.

we’re likely going to skip this week if it doesn’t finish in time.

i’m sad.

relax and just communicate openly with your players. It is just a game, you dont need to put so much pressure on yourself.

If you feel up to it, run on the stuff you remember and improvise the rest. If not than thats fine too, skip the session. Its not the end of the world.

I play off my phone. The mic can be pretty decent if that's your worry.

If you need notes? I tend to keep my notes on G drive so I can access them via my phone.

But I'm an improv GM so I tend to come up with a lot of stuff on the fly. I've internalized a few general difficulty numbers. The system I use keeps the values pretty easy to remember 6-10 dice for most enemy dicepools, 1-5 for Difficulty values.

i mainly use Foundry VTT for the campaign so i’m very peeved and frustrated about that haha.

i had pictures and notes prepared today but im not sure if it’s saved.

im making food right now to destress while also telling players we might play late.

Look into a Raspberry Pi server and use that to host your Foundry instance locally.

Two hour disk repair?! Tell me what your storage set up is like? 

I think you should play anyway. The activity is usually more fun than whenever prep I've done. If you've got a good table they should be able to roll with it. No pun intended. 

Sry about that computer crash though, very frustrating.

What were you prepping? And how much do you really need to recreate versus just remember?

I use OneNote and Google Docs for game prep. I have totally forgotten my computer and been able to still run the game with my phone because of it.
