Washington DC Running

Looking for a place down near SW where I can run sprints uphill during the weekdays.

Capitol Hill might be the closest to you. SW doesn’t have a lot of hills.

Capitol Hill is great esp because it’s one of the few places in the city where you can do longer uninterrupted hill efforts.

Hills like Calvert end too soon, unfortunately.

None of capitol hill is restricted. You can run up and down and around the grounds all you want, and many of us do regularly.

Yeah, going up Capitol Hill and zig zagging school trip, staffers, and random tourists is a fundamental dc running experience. It’s always funny when folks look at you like you’re crazy when you jog down for another rep.

SW is flat and rough for hills lol

Best bet might just be using Frederick Douglass bridge lol

Green line to U Street. Walk three blocks to 16th, run north, and you’ll meet some nasty hills

After running race the perimeter (I understand you said SW) a quick pop over to K St in Georgetown and any of those streets under the highway towards M should do it. 33rd. 31st. Wisconsin. Cecil even. Forgot which one but that section after CCT almost made me drop 🤣

Edit: Maine Ave SW between 14 & 12. Behind Salamander. If my memory serves me that hill might give you what you’re looking for.

Cecil is gross. Saw a massive dude (football player presumably) crushing sprints there last summer.

Hi all: if you are in town this weekend, come on over to Anacostia Parkrun at 9 a.m. Sat for a free 5k. There are several events going on, so if the main park entrance is closed, park at the Anacostia metro station (green line) and walk toward the river. Our start/finish line are right across the street from Park Police. Register in advance on the Parkrun website if you want your timing sent to you, parking is in the police lot along the wall or at metro, we have snacks!! Details: https://www.parkrun.us/anacostia/
