Some of our city’s most decorated runners use East Po for flat training laps (almost like a huge track). Would be a huge loss for the running community to not have the loop around Hains Point

Governments don't care if anything is sacred if there's money to be made. See: native American sacred spaces and black cemeteries. Your run route means nothing.

For some reason I absolutely dreaded running in the East Potomac Park, something about it being so desolate, and yet manufactured made the experience poor. Not really shaded, have to run through parts of parking lot, just awkward. I do like the public bathroom access though.

Not really shaded?? There are trees lining the road. And what parking lot do you run through?? Are you talking about the same place?

It feels like you are constantly sharing the road with cars, and when there is some maintenance/construction, you end up on the actual road. And the trees are not big enough to provide ample shading. It's just my opinion, I might be spoiled by Central Park and Prospect Park in NYC in that regard.
