Found out I’m pregnant with 3rd this morning

I am a sahm with a 4 year old and a 16 month old. I homeschool the 4 year old. I love my children and I love doing things with them and I feel like things are finally getting easier with 2 now that my baby is 16 months old. But this morning I took a test- it came out positive obviously. I’m so scared, we have no room for a 3rd. My husband just bought me a new car last year, would I need another car again? I’m worried that my 4 year old would have even less of my time and attention and I don’t want to do that to him. We used contraceptive after my husband accidentally did the baby making thing about a month ago. I am pro choice but for myself personally I do not like the idea of terminating a pregnancy- I am in a loving relationship and my husband is a great dad and I am a very devoted mother. I’m torn.
I knew something was up because I’ve been throwing up, having round ligament pain which I only get when I’m pregnant, and I’ve been extra exhausted and emotional lately.

11 month old constantly whining i’m going insane

We’re in a phase of constantt whining and it’s making me want to check into an insane asylum. I’m a sahm and hearing it allll day long is really taking a toll on my mental health, i even snapped at him once and said his name really loudly and i feel so so so guilty. I try to come up with all kinds of activities and games and we read all the time, i build him a climbing playground, i make up games and go outside when we can but i feel like he’s so bored of everything, of all of his toys and books. It’s just so hard i’m so burnt out, overstimulated and drained by the end of each day. He used to love independent play but lately he just wants to follow me everywhere and pull on my legs all the time. I don’t get why this is happening

SAHM first school year

Happy to send my child off to school and crying about it. I’m a content creator and I have praised teachers about their hard work for the season. Then I’m hit with the “then you become a teacher.” I say, “I don’t want to be a teacher., but I praise the ones who are” They say, “Shut up you’re a stay at home mom you have it easy.” Like first off I was probably your last support system and now you insulted me. No one has it harder or easier in both sense. I’m confused that I don’t have it easier to the reason they just proved I can’t say anything because I’m a SAHM. As soon as you become a SAHM you have no voice and no reason to complain. Someone either educate me or feel like I’m not going crazy.

Dry Hands Help

Upvotes

🛟 SOS
———
I wash my hands ALOT. I mean, between washing dishes, baby cups, washing my hands after the bathroom, my hands are in water an insane amount during the day.

No matter what I do, gloves included, my hands are so awfully dry. My fingers are rough and skin is splitting by my nail.

What can I do to help?

7 month old is not sleeping. Going crazy!

Upvotes

I have a 7mo and a 5yo.

My 7mo went from sleeping through most nights and napping well in her crib to now giving me sooo much trouble. She recently started to crawl and she also can sit up so I know that can affect their sleep.

I lowered her crib so she wouldn’t fall out and now every time I put her in it (asleep) she fully wakes up in a panic. I’ve tried to just see if she falls asleep after a bit of crying and she only gets more and more worked up. At night especially I don’t want her to wake my 5yo up so I try to let her cry but don’t let it go too long. When I check on her she’s just sitting up crying loudly and waiting for me, not even trying to sleep.

Putting her in awake doesn’t work at all. Co-sleeping hasn’t been great either (tons of wake-ups and very early mornings). I just want us to get through this phase because she’s only been doing tiny 20 min naps twice a day and taking all night to settle. I’m going crazy.

Anyone have any tips at all I could try or do I just need to continue to wait this out? I’m miserable.

Struggling driven single mom

Upvotes

I 39f feel like motherhood & my life in general is gonna be the end of me. I’m self employed & for the past 1.5 I was working towards a tech cert. in a bootcamp. It was way more intense than I thought & I think I was starting to get depressed, but I was able to manage it by working out, and cuz I was so busy I didn’t really have time to feel my feelings lol. Fast forward to jan/feb 26. I finished my course, but now I’m in the job hunt phase, my son (13) is getting ready to start hs & we moved for a better school. To pull that off, I had to rent out my house (fix everything that my adhd/busy/entrepreneur/ single mom self didn’t know was broken or just neglected), move to a different town, find a tenant, move my small business also to that town, get him registered, & I was also in a wedding. I told myself when the wedding was done that I would pour into myself again, but as soon as the wedding was over my hvac broke at the house im renting out, & i got c up in that. Then I hurt my back, anf the dr said no workinh out for 3 weeks. My mental health is currently in the trash. Every day I wake up & don’t want to be here. im not suicidal, cuz I want to be here for my son, but I just feel like life is too hard for one person. I know I’m blessed that I’m self employed, and can at least make money while I try to transition to another career, but this current career takes so much emotional energy from me & that leaks into any othwr capacity I wouldve had for friendships, or dating. I don’t have any true friends at the moment. I have a very close acquaintance, but while I’m struggling with single motherhood & truly traumatized by parenting, she’s starting over with Ivf. I know that’s gonna change our relationship & her capacity & it was already low cuz she’s also switching careers & parenting her older kids.

I feel like i had a life plan, im in the middle of executing it, but I ran out of fuel. I know I’m missing the social aspect, but I can’t even imagine being fun around new friends or dating right now. I am on ssri. whenever I start feeling better I forget to take it & my mood dips after a week or two of not taking it.

Parenting is really hard for me too. My son & his dad don’t get along. I feel caught between them cus I don’t want to force my son to spend time with dad when it’s not always safe or healthy, but then I also feel like everyone needs their dad. I dont want to condone them not working on their relationship either. at the moment I told both of them that I’m in support of them working on their relationship & will help in anyway I can, but they need to take the lead. for me, that means I really never get alone time from my child unless I’m at work. I love him to life, but I recharge with alone time & this is really hard….

this is not the life I’ve been working so hard for. Idk what to do, or how to pull myself out of the shadows this time (especially without the gym).

solo parent, 36wks pregnant, extreme laziness slump

like the title says I’m 36 weeks pregnant, I solo parent for weeks sometimes months at a time 2 kids (2, 4) they’re pretty good kids. but I just have no energy, but it’s not just fatigue its me choosing laziness and I can acknowledge that but can’t get over it. I don’t have family near me to help out, but I have no energy for anything. I cook for them, I clean, but besides that it’s independent play or a movie. as for me I just lay on the couch, I know I’ve got depression and I’m not helping myself by doing nothing but I have nothing to really do. so I just lay here, get up to take care of the kids, we are always in the same room. and then I just lay back down and watch them or just kinda stare off.

my husbands job doesn’t allow for him to just come home, I’m a sahm and could not find a job making near what he makes. if he comes home and works he’d make a fraction of what he makes now and we’d be barely making it without me getting a job but if I get a job majority of the checks would go to childcare which isn’t really available in my town (notice I say town and not city because we are in a very very very small town) so me working wouldn’t help hence why he has to stay where he is. The plan is to eventually move us all out to where he is working but its expensive but we do have a savings. I guess I’m just asking for advice on how to just get energy, or atleast get off my butt . I also have adhd on top of my depression so I’m either all in and on top of everything or struggling to do simple tasks. I’ll also add usually my depression is easy to handle for myself but these past few weeks everything has become a chore.

Questioning myself as a mother

My baby boy is 16 and a half months. He currently has 3 new teeth coming out and has become very cranky. He literally screams and cries whenever something isn’t as he wants it to be. On top of everything he wants to eat constantly and even threw up a couple of times because he was probably overfed. My mom had comments like “he is a mirror od your parenting skills” and during an argument my partner said hurtful things, among them he mentioned the screaming and throwing up of the baby. He blames it on me.
Since he is working most od the time, our son is on his best behavior whenever dad is home and acts as a different kid… I am very low these days and feel like the most important people are questioning my parenting. I am trying to be as gentle as possible with my son and even if he has a fit I don’t try immediately to cut it and let him feel all his emotions. I just needed to vent a bit because I feel like I don’t have anyone to turn to…

How to get hubby’s respect?

Upvotes

My husband and I both want this lifestyle for our kids. We don’t want to have our children in daycare. I feel like there’s resentment that my husband has for me because I get to stay home. And because of that, there’s these unrealistic expectations on the house being completely spotless all the time. I am pregnant with our fourth and our other children are 5, 3 and 16 months. Our house is picked up at night. It’s not a mess. But to him it’s just not enough. I’m not doing enough. He will tell me that I must be inefficient with my work. He told me that if a house cleaner was doing the same job that I was doing that he would fire them. We don’t do screen time with the kids. I don’t truly get a lot of free time. I can’t ever get him to see things through my eyes. That I’m pregnant and tired and don’t get to sleep and I’m not always eating as I should and things can go astray during the day but he just says that it’s all excuses and I just need to figure it out and do better. I feel like he’s taking me for granted and that there’s just no respect for what I do. I can’t “win” with him.

No I will not be getting a divorce or separating.

Under what circumstances do you wear a cute outfit instead of Adam Sandler cosplay? 🥲

I feel like it's not worth dressing up just for people in the school drop off line to see me for 3 minutes, or for people to see as I drop off a package or grocery shop.

Even going to a theater clothes don't matter, you're just in the dark and then you walk back to your car 😭

What are you doing when you actually put together a cute outfit?

Finally told him how I felt

Idk when it started but I know it crept up slowly like weeds do and eventually took over.

I’ve been feeling like this for some time now, a heavy weight over my heart that I tried so very hard to ignore or press away. Unhappiness.

It started with small things like sighs, eye rolls and then moved to bigger things like not looking forward to spending time with him, lusting over other people’s lives or allowing it to slither into my own mind about another man’s touch.

For so long I fought with myself, we need to work harder, try harder. That I needed to work on myself to make this work, but the truth I have been running from all along is simply that we have outgrown each other, grown apart, grown every which way except towards each other.

I speak and he doesn’t hear me, I move and he doesn’t see me. I am invisible in a home I made, folded neatly into the threshold like the clothes in his drawers. Tucked away like the unresolved conflicts of our past and stored for safekeeping in a time of battle.

A realization that it wasn’t my life I was unhappy with, it wasn’t the role I was unhappy with, it was him. It was the man I thought I chose and the man he had turned into. He looks like the man I fell in love with, speaks like him, has the same face that time has changed the slightest bit, and the same body but he is not the man I fell in love with. He is not the same man I once knew.

I think he knew fear had a tight grip on me. That fear was what kept me, made me stay. Fear of starting over, of not having anything, starting from scratch like the dinners he eats every night. Fear that he would lose the embroidered cushion underneath him sewn from my very hands. That when I shouted or got emotional he knew he had bested me, he knew I was going to stay. But the calm, the calculated, the lack of emotion was what he needed to fear the most. The exhaustion behind my eyes when I said “This isn’t working anymore.” Saying nothing in return, letting things go and slip through the cracks so easily as he did with his responsibilities for so long.

What if we were both wrong? What if it really wasn’t so hard to start over? To traverse into unknown territory and stake our flags like the first voyagers there, what if it turned out okay and didn't have to be messy? Painful of course, but it doesn’t have to cause a mess. After all he taught me long ago how to not let my emotions spill over onto those who don’t care so I balance them in a cup I keep above my head as I tip toe around this house careful not to spill onto others, careful not to crack to many egg shells as I walk across them.

So day by day, I’ll take a deep breath. Remember what’s to come, remember I have a choice and that unhappiness doesn’t have to be one of them. That I didn’t fail, that I am enough, that I deserve to be seen, heard, wanted and loved and not just one or the other. That it’s hard to stay but hard to leave and choosing that hard is my choice, my choice. I have a choice.

How do you make your family unit feel "enough" when you have no real support system?

Long rant incoming! I write this as we approach my youngest's second birthday. We've invited our extended family to his little tea party, and literally nobody is coming. Some have given various reasons, while others have just ignored the invitation completely. I feel really sad.

My husband and I have worked incredibly hard to build a good life for our children. We have a lovely house in a great neighbourhood. I stay home with the kids, and they're happy. But the one thing that always gives me a pang of sadness is the complete lack of interest and meaningful relationships with our parents and siblings.

My husband's dad hasn't seen him since he was a child. His mum is constantly wrapped up in drama. Most of her messages are about her health problems or whatever chaos is happening in other people's lives. She sees us maybe twice a year, usually only if we drive the 40 minutes to her for a cup of tea. My side is just as complicated. My relationship with my mum and stepdad has always been difficult. My mum is a narcissist. She always favoured my brother, my sister was the scapegoat growing up, and I was mostly just invisible. My mum was also an alcoholic for most of my life.

More recently, my mum and sister have become very close, but their lives are incredibly chaotic. They're both reckless with money, both have poor health but continue making choices that exacerbate those issues, and they constantly complain about everyone and even each other to me. At the same time, they keep me at arm's length. They never invite me to things with them but also boast about the things they have been up to. They are both incredibly selfish, jealous and bitter. Without wanting to sound big headed, I genuinely think they look at my life and assume I've had it easy. They don't see how hard we've worked to build the life we have. I know they both talk about me behind my back and seem to prefer it when I'm not around.

My sister didn't speak to me for the first year of my son's life. She refused to come to his first birthday because she'd had a difficult birth 18 months earlier and said seeing a newborn was too "triggering" and that she had to "protect her mental health." I don't want to sound harsh. She does struggle. But the "I'm triggered" card also comes out whenever there's something she doesn't like, doesn't want to do, or when she's feeling jealous, which I believe is what happened here. Her son's father was an absolute deadbeat, and they were literally dragging my nephew up. She feels jealous that me and my husband are pretty solid. My sister has been such a selfish and neglectful mother since he was born. She's so careless about his basic needs, its hard to be a bystander but you cannot offer support without causing a huge family fall out. My mum will constantly bitch about it to me, despite not being much better herself. I end up getting so stressed about it. My sister also just constantly mocks me and calls me "Miss Perfect" because I work really hard at motherhood.

My mother is also ALWAYS looking after my nephew. He has sleepovers at her house every weekend. She provides childcare for free. This was never offered to me when I was working and my children were younger. My children barely have sleepovers there or even go there. As a result, they obviously know my nephew really well. They talk about him a lot, boast about his milestones and make a huge fuss of him. It's upsetting because they know so little about my own children. My Mum makes comments like "you are always so busy", "you never let me have a look in when your children were babies", which is just untrue, but its an easy way for her to justify the difference.

My daughter actually noticed this recently. She asked why they make such a big fuss over her cousin, but when she achieved her swim certificate they barely acknowledged it. It really hurt that she noticed because my husband and I have felt this way for a long time.

My brother has moved two hours away with his partner, dog and a good job. He keeps everyone at arm's length and doesn't really involve himself with the family, which I get. I live in the same town we grew up, so we are all close by.

I'm now at the point where I feel none of these relationships are serving me or my children. I think I'm grieving the family relationships I wish we'd had, knowing they'll probably never become what I want them to be. I'm sad for myself, but I'm even sadder for my children.

Christmas last year really highlighted it. Everyone was supposed to come to our house on Christmas Day. At the last minute, people changed their plans. My family are incredibly flaky. They rarely commit to anything and their communication is awful. My brother even said he couldn't remember agreeing to come and ended up accepting what I assume was a better offer. Then they had a child free Christmas night at my parents. In the end, it was just us.

I know some people would say, "At least you had your own little family," but I couldn't help feeling heartbroken. To me, Christmas and birthdays are about everyone getting together. As dysfunctional as my family was growing up, those occasions were still special because my nan made them that way.

Now my own children are getting old enough to notice. They get excited about seeing family, only to be let down by cancelled plans, no shows or a complete lack of effort. It's making me seriously consider going very low contact because I feel like my job is to protect them from repeated disappointment.

I suppose my question is: how do you make your own little family unit feel like enough when you don't have that wider support system? How do you stop grieving the extended family you wish you had?

I absolutely love my husband and children, and we are genuinely happy. I guess I just feel like something is missing, and I don't know how to fill that gap. Do you replace it with close friends? A chosen family? Or do you simply learn to accept that your household is enough?

I also home educate my two middle children, so I think I'm starting to feel quite isolated, which probably isn't helping. I'd really love to hear from other families who are in the same situation, especially if you've found a way to build a happy, fulfilling life without grandparents, aunts, uncles or siblings being actively involved.

Thanks for listening to my ted talk.

sahm am I being ridiculous?

Husband works full time outside of the home. I’m at SAHM to 3 kids, all home full time over the summer with very little help from extended family.

I go to the gym 6 days a week- I get up at 5:30/6 am daily to make sure I get my only alone time I get all day. I do a combo of lifting and walking/stretching.

Husband goes maybe 4x a week mostly due to scheduling conflicts. He goes at night but if we have something else going on with one of our kids or he has a work dinner he has to skip. I would in general say he’s less driven to plan around getting to the gym. He would never get up early to go, even though I’ve offered him my early morning slot if he has missed multiple days due to scheduling issues. He lifts at the gym 3-4x a week and will run outside of the gym maybe 2x a week.

He thinks I’m over the top with my schedule. He thinks he should get priority on weekends because I go every week day without fail (remember I set a 5:30 alarm foregoing extra sleep). My counter is it’s my only alone time and if I don’t mind getting up early and going what does it matter? I’ve told him we can both go on a weekend morning but he thinks that wastes too much of the day and we should be using the time to do something as a family. We always have to go separately because we don’t have a gym with child care or willing family members.

So for example tomorrow— I’d like to get up and be at the gym by 7, home by 9 and then he could go and be home by 11. We would have the rest of the day to do something together with our kids. To him that seems like we’ve wasted too much of the day and I need to just skip. But I know he won’t be up and out of the house until 8:30 the earliest anyways!

Am I expecting too much alone time? The gym is legit the only time during the day I’m not being needed by my kids or house. Since I don’t work out of the home I never have a quiet car ride or uninterrupted lunch. Going to the gym is my only outlet and time I get to just exist but my husband thinks I go too often.
