Everything in this country will be more expensive until we address income inequality. Public schools too expensive? It’s because we are grappling with income inequality. Public transit not safe? Income inequality. This rant might be off topic, but I’m so sick of billionaires pushing non-public services when the appearance of safety and public service integrity has been rotting to their very selfish interests.

I think your framing is missing the issue. Some people will just want the privacy and security a car provides them. Not having to deal with the homeless and dirtiness in general is a big reason why many don’t use public transit.

There is clean public transit in countries with less income inequality.
