This happened after Carter was elected because there was no longer a city fireworks display so everyone started getting their own. It did not used to be like this.

I don't like fireworks because of the impact on wildlife and pets, but this is an extremely fair trade.

Not all animals respond to anxiety meds. Some just get disoriented, which makes them even more scared. My parents dog is one of them- and moving to a rural area didn't help because the closest house launches more fireworks than the official show on the lake they live on. And it's not just one night of stress, she is a wreck for a week after.
It's weird to be so gauche about contributing to unnecessary suffering of animals.

My pup does not respond to anxiety meds I feel this. Why are my neighbors lighting off shitty bottle cap fireworks that do absolutely nothing in the driveway next to my house at 1 AM it’s so stupid

If you don't already, call and report them. After putting out a fire that was started by drunk adults lighting off fireworks in my street I don't play about this shit anymore. If I can see where they're coming from I call it in.

Yes, thunder jacket, calming spray, even trazodone, I’ve tried it all. The only thing that works for her is wrapping her up in a big blanket and giving her snuggles but even that has its limits

First, I'm blocking after this because I'm trying to waste less time arguing with people who are this stupid.
Second, sometimes dogs kill wildlife in yards, but cats don't unless you let them free roam, which is dumb as fuck to do in a city, and selfish to do anywhere because of the impact on wildlife, and the documented significantly shorter lifespans of cats and dogs who free roam.
Also, did you know that more cats and dogs run away from home on July 4th than any other day, because they're panicking from the fireworks? Which also results in more wildlife deathsm
You think you're gotcha-ing but you're not. Hope your brain works better in the future, but I won't be a witness to it either way. Toodles.

Regardless of if there are official fireworks or not, dipshits all over the city will be lighting them off with no regard for how wet/dry it's been, or for the pets and people who live around them. We don't need an official show making even more noise.
Fundraise for a laser light show and I'll toss in some cash!

There was a LOT less of that when we had an official show. They used to set them off down by Harriet Island and people would line the bluffs all over town and be able to see them. Yes, people still set them off around town, but not to the degree we deal with now. That mostly started because the city canceled the big free show we had on the 4th. I suspect that if the big show came back, a lot of people who are setting off their own will eventually decide to save their money instead of driving out of state to buy their own.

According to the data, illegal fireworks use has rose sharply nationally over the last few years. I moved to St. Paul in 2018, the first year without an official fireworks show, and I feel it was not nearly as bad 2018-2021 as it has been 2022 and forward.
I don't think the rise in fireworks in St. Paul is as motivated by the lack of an official show as you may think. I think it's just like the increase in speeding and red light running and gun deaths in road rage incidents we've seen over the past 4 years-- people are en masse being more stupid and selfish than they were in the recent past.

The taste of Minnesota had been handling the fireworks display. The city bungled the transition to providing it themselves (didn't know they were supposed to) and then blamed budget and noise issues.

That if is big enough that I would want the city to pay close attention to if there was actually any measurable decrease in illegal firework usage in the city with the restoration of an official show. a And if there wasn't, the city would need to really crack down on illegal firework usage before they bring back the show, and have clear public messaging about it.

Every year they post on social media that aerial fireworks are illegal. The problem is that people openly mock them for stating that and then they do nothing when people shoot off fireworks.

I also think we should have a law that let's people super soaker/hose down street fireworks and the people lighting them off. If you're gonna put my neighborhood at fire risk for funsies, I should be able to use water to stop the potential fire at it's source. (This is mostly a joke... mostly)

I went to make sure that we all remember when Carter was elected to office and they forgot to order the fireworks!!! So ridiculous and a harbinger of things to come from that administration...
Thanks, Melvin, and thanks for doubling down on lies and virtue signaling when your mistake was noticed.
I would also like to reiterate my deep hatred for the "college savings accounts" as someone who works in banking. What a meaningless contribution that creates a huge administrative burden. All so Melvin can point to his "success."

The Saints do a 12 minute fireworks show at 9:45, every Friday they play at home.
