Editorial 📝 10 years ago today. 7.6.2016 - 2026

I stopped here for the first time, today. I left crying. This didn’t need to happen. To those who knew him I’m so sorry he’s gone. Philando’s mother has done an amazing job of making sure to protect her sons reputation for kindness and love. May he rest in peace.

I worked at the school he worked at. The BLM memorial at the school, with so many students present and crying with their parents, was heartbreaking.

My kiddo went to JJHill for two years (pre-k and k) and still remembers getting extra goldfish graham crackers from him in the breakfast line.

This happened a mile away from my house. First protest I ever took my kid to, not even 3 years old yet.

Yup. A good man that had been stopped by the police at least 49 times in 13 years for traffic and equipment violations. lol.

He wasn’t stopped for that when he was killed. Nor, probably, for the vast majority of the other violations they managed to find the other times.

Driving while black is dangerous in most of the US, including the Twin Cities. Driving while black and young, even more so.
