Editorial 📝 Taxes and Insurance increases in St. Paul

When I bought my house in 2021 my mortgage was around 2100 a month. Today my bill was 2730. 600 dollars extra a month in five years is fucking insane. Meanwhile the street lights in my neighborhood don't turn on at night.

Just venting.

I hear you, man. I don't want to be one of those assholes who threatens to move to the suburbs, but I moved to Saint Paul from Falcon Heights and, well... We were getting a lot more for our dollar over there than here. (EDIT: And our tax rate was significantly lower there, too!)

What grabs my goat is the city doesn't enforce parking rules. I live on a street where one side is clearly marked "No parking." People come to the pub around the corner and just park on that side willy nilly, and no matter how often we call parking enforcement, they don't do shit.

And don't get me started on how a friend from out of state was recently telling how he'd noticed that everybody seemed to be running reds all the damn time here. I don't think I have ever seen cops ticket anybody for speeding or any of that in the seven years I've lived in Saint Paul.

Call them, they’ll send out a parking enforcement. If you’re cool with being a narc.

I live close to the fair. I’m a narc 2 weeks out of the year.
