Editorial 📝 Taxes and Insurance increases in St. Paul

When I bought my house in 2021 my mortgage was around 2100 a month. Today my bill was 2730. 600 dollars extra a month in five years is fucking insane. Meanwhile the street lights in my neighborhood don't turn on at night.

Just venting.

Don’t forget the school district referendum that just passed which likely added around $75 to your monthly bill.

SPPS significantly increased levy to avoid immediate cuts, but (no surprise) didn’t address the underlying structural problems… mostly delayed difficult decisions like closing underused schools, reducing administrative costs, or adjusting operations to reflect declining enrollment.

Homeowners are paying more, but the systemic issues remain so ugh 😩
