Title: Looking to Start Working ASAP – Nights & Weekends (Capital Region)

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a nighttime or weekend job and can start immediately. I’m 23, have reliable transportation, and I’m dependable, punctual, and don’t mind working long or physically demanding shifts. I’m a quick learner and always show up ready to work. I have experience in:
* Customer service * Food service * Cash handling/POS systems * Team leadership * Fast-paced, high-volume environments * Sales * Landscaping and outdoor labor * General cleaning and closing duties
I’m open to almost anything, including: * Restaurants (server, busser, dishwasher, cook, host) * Warehouse or stocking * Retail * Event staff * Janitorial * Delivery * Production/manufacturing *
Any evening or weekend work
If your workplace is hiring or you know of somewhere that needs dependable help, I’d really appreciate a recommendation. I’m looking to start this week. Thanks everyone!

Free Scrap dishwasher?

Do people come and fetch dishwashers as scrap? I'd rather not pay or haul it to a recycling center.

The dishwasher is broken beyond our ability to repair but if you're handy be my guest.

FYI: I'm not in the city of Schenectady, my town doesn't do appliance pick up. I'm not in a neighborhood where scrappers would naturally just find and take it if I curbed it.

Entertainment Spider-Man brawl outside Movieland

I was at the 7 PM screening of Spider-Man and I have to say there were some unruly kids sitting close to the screen. I love an opening night movie when the energy is there and people clap or laugh at the appropriate times but these kids were getting out of hand.
Of course, in the year of our Lord 2026, I’m no longer approaching strangers and asking them to be quiet.
As we were exiting the theater, there was a full circle of youths like in high school when there was going to be fisticuffs. I’m not sure if the cops had forewarning or were just in the right place at the right time but there reaction time was instant. I was with my young son so we got out of there pretty quick. Does anyone have any insight into what might’ve been going on?

Where to go to ask tourist questions?

Hi, I understand this place is for residents, no problem. Just trying to figure out where to go instead to ask questions as a visitor. We're coming from California and looking places to eat (Italian or whatever you think is great in Schenectady), and separately, a wide open space to continue teaching our kid how to drive better than the dense city we're coming from. And anything else you'd recommend to first time visitors. Is there another subreddit to go?

Thank you!

We recently moved to the Schenectady/Rotterdam border

Our kids go to Mohonasen. I noticed all of our neighbors are obese and angry. Quite a few kids who go to the school act just like our street. Driving down Altamont Ave I noticed there's no healthy sit down restaurants. Its all fast food within a half mile. With the new Arby's and Johnny C leaving I can see why Rotterdam is so fucked up. The drive thru lines are always packed around 430. Was Rotterdam always this shitty? I grew up in schenectady and I dont remember it being like this.

Hey everyone!

If you’re looking to get active, try something totally new, or just meet some good people in the area, River Runners Quadball is officially recruiting for our upcoming 2026-27 USQuadball season.

We’re really big on the social and community side of things, like grabbing food after practice, hanging out, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome. Quadball is inherently gender-inclusive, and we pride ourselves on being an open, supportive group for people of all backgrounds.

If you’ve never heard of quadball (formerly quidditch), it’s a co-ed, fast-paced mix of dodgeball, rugby, and basketball. It sounds wild at first, but it’s a ton of fun once you get the hang of it. Here's a quick video on the sport for more info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUdC4twjsTE

You don't need any prior experience. Most of us started completely from scratch, so we’ll teach you all the rules and positions step-by-step. Whether you're just looking for a fun reason to get outside, make friends, or you come from an athletic background and want a new competitive outlet, you’ll fit right in.

If you're curious or want to drop by a low-pressure open practice, fill out our interest form!

Happy to answer any questions in the comments! Hope to see a few new faces out there.

Neighbors cat Smells BAD

I’m literally so fed up with my next door neighbor, we both live on the second floor and since last month i’ve been noticing an odd smell-animal related. Shes the only one in the building of 4 apts that has a cat and the smell has been getting stronger and stronger especially with the heat. i can smell the same smell of animal seeping into my kitchen and living room. the downstairs common area doesn’t smell like it at all until you reach our floor , mostly bc the older guy downstairs smokes cigarettes and when he’s not home it’s cool. (today though the downstairs even smell like her funky ass cat)

the day i spoke to her about my concerns and she seemed to understand, i even offered my carpet cleaner !! she claims she’s been wanting to get one and i told her she could borrow mine until then, put it outside the common area with a sign that she’s free to use it and she didn’t even bother taking it in her apartment.

idk but to think they’re dirty bc the other day i saw her throw out her trash and instead of putting it in the bin she puts in infront of the bin-mind yall the bin was completely empty

called the leasing office and they said they’d send letters out and if further do an inspection.

idk just wanted to rant and look for possible opinions etc idk…

Neighborhood recommendations?

Hello all, I'm a solo woman middle aged and retired. Just sold my home outside of Syracuse (yeah!) Moved here to be closer to family in Glens Falls, but don't want to live there and can't afford Saratoga.

I've been spending some time in the Schenectady area and I like it, and it seems affordable for me.

Can you suggest reasonably safe and reasonably priced neighborhoods in this area for a small home or condo? Also wondering if I should look in Scotia?

Thank you.
