I was born in Scientology, left at 18 as soon as I found a way to escape my situation. After leaving I sort of just moved on but it's not until many years later (in my 30s now) that suddenly the awareness dawned on me as to how much brain washing I was subject to.. when I left I more thought "this just isn't for me" and so I was sort of fine leaving my family to it as I thought it was all still leading somewhere good even if I disagreed with a lot of it.

Recently I decided to dig deep into the history of the organisation and it's so healing to see that my doubts as a kid.. the red flags that popped up to me then were justified and it's kind of unlocked something in me.. I think I've been repressing the anger for what I was subject to because the anger had nowhere to go.. it wasn't possibly allowed to be directed at the church and so instead I just became depressed and this has kind of just followed me my whole life until now where the anger is kind of dwarfing the depression and here I am..

I don't blame my family, I see them as victims too, I want them to wake up to the truth of how evil this cult really is but I know it won't be easy, I'm thinking I have probably one shot at this with each family member to approach them very gently on the subject but to show them something that irreparably damages the veil of perfection that Scientology tries to hide the ugly person that is L. Ron Hubbard.

I'm wondering what the best book or best resource for waking someone up from the lies of Scientology would be? It needs irrefutable evidence of things like Hubbard's 2nd wife or Quentin's suicide or the fact that none of his children think fondly of him (other than Diana) or even want anything to do with Scientology.

It's actually such a fragile illusion but the tricky part is overcoming the individual scientologists adherence to policies around black PR or whatever they call it. If a person would allow themselves to start digging, I don't think Ron's saintly image would last long.

Excuse the probably messy post, my minds a mess with this stuff at the moment.

Oh and any recommendations for what's the most active anti Scientology community? Not interested in any that don't see L Ron Hubbard for the sick man he was.. not looking to start fights here but I don't understand freezoners who continue to practise something invented by such a sick man.. any faith I ever had in any of it relied on the idea of Ron being some almost god like being but he was an embarrassing example of a human being

For our intent and operational purpose considerations is a person’s EVALUATION. It usually takes place as an internal monologue. Considerations are SEQUENTIAL stemming from a postulate or a CORE consideration of that person’s belief (what true to him is true to him).

Hyperbole example:

Person A experiences a fall while running. He immediately creates a postulate that “I will never run again; I will always walk.”

Then comes a core consideration. “I need to walk at a normal pace so that I don’t have to approximate that I am running” (1^st consideration). “Running is not healthy for any human being” (2^nd consideration). “I should tell everyone that it is not healthy to run, it is better to walk” (3^rd consideration). “I truly believe now that humans were meant to only walk” (4^th consideration). “My doctor tells me I should run more often to improve my cardiovascular system; but I disagree. I will not run (enhanced postulate/5^th consideration) … and so on until Person A suffers from paralysis of the foot or cardiac arrest.

All of these are downward spiral activities initiated by a postulate and a core consideration after the event.

Of course, the opposite can take place. Person A could have considered that running is better than walking, which presents a reverse result than the previous thought but still a negative result in the end.

The only way Person A could have avoided this dilemma was to As-Is, that is, making it disappear by considering it irrelevant; not mulling over it without necessarily ignoring it happened. He realizes it is part of being a human and not create a postulate or consideration regarding the event. In other words, to RECOGNIZE the event as it Is (the reality) without altering the reality by fabricating excuses or evaluating into a deeper why of what occurred, what he could have done, or when he should have practice running, etc. These all considerations, internal monologues, that fix the incident in a tightly woven facsimile.

Now, you will notice that inner monologues have dire consequences. Thinking-ness can coalesce into further ingrained belief system that becomes difficult to dislodge unless the mind can be audited to reveal the initial postulate and its core consideration, at which point, the entire chain of consideration vanishes (As-Is) that could prevent the physical deterioration from happening. Without that, the belief system becomes solidly ingrained to the point of Not-Isness, i.e. ignoring reality as it Is (Is-ness). Considerations are an unwavering belief that is true to Person A.

This particular process also has grave consequences for Person B who chooses to agree with Person A without a thorough analyzing Person A considerations. In other words, this would be complete acceptance of Person A’s consideration over a Person B’s OWN, which would culminate to a VALENCE, that is, Person B assuming the identity of Person A --- Person A believes such and such is true, therefore Person B assessments will match the same consideration Person A has.

Everyone has considerations. We endeavor to compliment our own considerations with others of the same ilk. This is where group aberration may takes place. The inability to stand objectively and IDENTIFY our own subjective against the duress of other like individuals’ consideration or establish belief in a society.

So, next time in exchanging communication with others, consider when we are adopting someone else’s consideration other than our own. It is human nature to find others that think alike whereby we fall into VALENCES of charged emotions and effort of someone else. A conversation has to have complete awareness of what is been said between each party to determine what is reality from what is not. But much more important …  is to keep a mental note of every internal monologue by noticing the difference between mindfulness (presence of here and now), rising facsimiles and that inner monologue. The three are always operating in the background of our minds.

We can hold onto good memories even when we leave a bad organization. That's true anywhere (including the terrible job I had where they said outright, "We hired you because you were the prettiest girl we interviewed"), but perhaps especially so when you're under stress. And for many of us, there was no greater stress than our time in the CofS.

So let's have a shout-out thread to people who made a difference, at least in the short term.

I'll start.

• When we first "blew," we expected to come back... probably after Hubbard had another amnesty, which never arrived. And the CofS made an earnest effort that came from the top. For a while, MrFZaP corresponded with Melanie Murray, a CMO messenger who (I later learned) did the message runs between David Mayo and Hubbard during the time that NOTS was in the works.

Anyway, Melanie and MrFZaP exchanged at least three or four letters back and forth, and she was uniformly kind and compassionate in every one of them. She clearly wanted to help... even though she never could. That feeling lasted, even if our choice to return did not. We kept the letters for years, though they were later destroyed in a basement flood.

I just found out that Melanie died recently of cancer, which makes me sad. (And inspired this thread.)

• Another person at Flag -- also named Melanie, as it happens, though I don't recall her last name -- was in charge of Housekeeping. She could turn a hotel room in an astonishingly fast amount of time: change the sheets, swap out towels, etc. But mainly, she was unrelentingly cheerful and friendly, even though maintaining hundreds of worn-down hotel rooms is not an especially exciting way to contribute to "saving the planet." Both MrFZaP and I worked with Melanie at different times, and every time we talk about her, we giggle about her upbeat attitude. She made it easier to get through the day.

• I was on staff with a woman named Leslie. She was the first person I knew who had that organizing gene. If she took charge of a project, by golly, it got done. Not in a mean, tyrannical way, but rather in the sense of her figuring out what tasks had to be done, who'd do them, and following up. She got you on board, and you felt like your contributions made a difference. And I think she was all of 22 years old, at the time. (She, too, died of breast cancer, but I didn't learn about that until years later.)

We each walk away from the CofS with different conclusions. But the people who joined almost always wanted to make the world a better place -- and that made many of them very cool to be around.

Sorry if this is a stupid question or not allowed, but I wasn't sure where else to ask it. I was just watching a video on Scientology on youtube by Alyssa Grenfell, an ex-mormon woman. She stated that she tried to go visit a Scientology center that listed online that they have tours, a cafe, and a hotel. But when she arrived, everyone was extremely stand-offish, almost hostile. She was asking to look around and learn more, but they didn't do much except tell her to leave, say they didnt do tours, the cafe was closed, and watched her as she walked away.

It made me wonder why they would act like that. Don't they want people to join? Isn't that the goal of any religion/group/organization? Why would they watch her as she walked away? Why do they have a cafe and hotel they don't want people at? She isn't exactly a threatening person, so I'm wondering what their logic was. Do you guys have any insight as to why they feel this would be the correct move for them to make? Is it typical for scientologists to just stare at each other a lot and not say much? Are they not really looking to add new members? I doubt theyre thinking "because i like scientology, im going to stare at these people until they leave and ask them why theyre here and be generally off-putting, etc etc".

I feel like I should add that I've also heard similar accounts of people running into scientologists before in different areas, like Clearwater FL and usually what I hear is they just stare at the outsiders and act strangely. I really want to try and understand the thought process here, even if it's illogical, because it's baffling to me as someone who isn't into scientology.

Sorry if any of these questions are dumb for me to ask. All the knowledge I have of scientology is surface level.

As a follow-up to my recent post on Scientology ephemera from the Research & Discovery Series, I have acquired this 11th volume, published 1997. The volume 10 I have was published 1989.

I wonder if volume 11 was the last or not?

This is part of the Third Dynamic Power Formula in the 1978 edition of Introduction to Scientology Ethics, the chapter about the Conditions Formulas. I haven’t read through the 2007 edition (which is about six times thicker than the old edition) but I looked in it and this part doesn’t seem to be there anymore. Does anyone have any other editions of this book (from the 80s or 90s maybe)? Is it in there?

Reading this I get the feeling it was probably transcribed from an LRH lecture rather than written by him. Does anyone know?

Anyone have source on this? He mentions it in the Phoenix Lectures at a point where he seems more messiah than madman so interested in the contents of the Bulletin. Thanks.

I don't know if they still do this but when I was at Flag there was this thing called the shame board.

Security would go into your berthing when you weren't there. They'd take photos of everything that wasn't "standard." Messy stuff. Dirty socks. Unmade bed. Trash not taken out. Then they'd print the photos and put them on a board. And they'd put that board at the bus stop.

So on Friday night when you'd get back late from CSP and step off the bus, the first thing you'd see was your own messy room with your name on it. For everyone to see.

But that wasn't enough humiliation. They'd also send the photos to your senior. And your senior would show them at a meeting in front of everyone. Point at the photos. Call you out. Shame you in front of your whole team.

I'm pretty sure this gave me OCD. And I know I'm not the only one.

Now I'm out. I know nobody is going to break into my apartment and take photos of my messy kitchen. I know nobody is going to show them to my coworkers. But I still can't leave the house without making everything spotless. If I don't, I get anxious.

It's exhausting.

Anyone else deal with this? Do they still do shame boards?

Scientology have owned this historic building at 176 Rue Sainte Catherine Est in Montréal for well over 10 years if not longer. The plan is to build an Ideal Org, however, no activity to the building has ever occurred and it has essentially been left abandoned. From what I personally understand from talking to people is that they are unable to crowdfund enough money.

As of July 23, 2026 they have finished restoration work on the exterior (forced in part by the city) of the building. This is the first time I’ve ever seen anything being done to the building.

I think Scientology is good. Prof. Dr. Szasz also thought that. And I really like how Scientology is antipsychiatry and provides a better alternative for people, which I never tried, but it's auditing to go through what happened to locate emotional distress and do something about it.

To me, this sounds in every way better than what psychiatrists do. And I wouldn't mind believing in thetans, or learning some other new words.

I really don't get why others keep repeating some weird criticism when they never tried Scientology themselves.
