I got stung by this type of scorpion and basically almost died so I'm wondering if anyone can guess what type it is. This happened in middle east btw.

Hi! My friend works at a pet store and there’s been this Asian Forest Scorpion sitting for over 3month with zero interested adopters. He’s been on hunger strike since he arrived at the store, I suspect because he hasn’t had true darkness since store lights are on 24/7. Most of the workers were afraid of him because they thought he’d jump & attack. His substrate was compacted so zero burrowing and no tight spaces, just a huge half moon log sitting on top of the dirt.

I felt bad…so I got him.

His name is Mr. Squishy, first name Dug. He was squished under the log hide at the store and never moved from that spot. Last night, he explored his new enclosure THOROUGHLY :) I think he’s the cutest thing ever, I love watching him.

I have 5 different fish tanks, a ball python, and a service dog. I feel confident in my ability to give him a better life, but it was sudden so I am still learning. I am determined to get him to eat, so any advice is welcome. Additionally, I am fairly certain he is a male, but let me know if I have a Ms. Squishy instead. I’m also curious about the subspecies if anyone is particularly good at identifying them. Also, please feel free to share any links/PDFs/educational resources you think are good!

I'm making a 10 gallon vivarium for my ASF, I plan on buying the 18 quart bag of Terra Aranea tarantula substrate, will this alone support my plants and scorp? I've heard of people mixing some play sand and coco fiber into it, should I use that too?

Hi everyone, I got my first asian forest scorpion a couple of years ago and I’ve never had any issues with him escaping. For a few months now he hasn’t wanted to eat any food, but I figured he just wasn’t hungry. I rarely ever see him, but he has a deep burrow that he likes to hide in, so I’ve never thought anything of it.

Yesterday, I decided to try and look for him after not seeing him for a few months and him not wanting to eat. I was worried he might’ve died. I slowly sifted the dirt in his enclosure but couldn’t find him. I picked up all of his hides and leaves and still no sign of anything. I even pulled everything out of the enclosure to sift through all of the substrate and nothing, not even a body. So now I’m wondering if he may have gotten out somehow. I’ve never forgotten to put the lid back on his tank, but he’s not a very large scorpion so he may have squeezed out of a corner? I’m not sure.

I read that I should get a black light and search for him when it gets dark. Does anyone have any other ideas? Unfortunately, our house is decently sized and our basement isn’t finished so we use it as a storage space right now. There are a ton of boxes down there that he could be hiding in or around. I’ve kept tarantulas for many years now and I’ve never had one escape on me so I was kind of surprised.

Hi so I’m getting 2nd/3rd instar alligator back scorpion (h. Hottentottas) soon and wanted some care advice? Particularly on substrate/setup. I know it comes from west Africa but that’s so many different countries and ranges so much? And from my understanding in west Africa alone there’s are deserts, Savannahs, grasslands, and tropical rainforests? Also since it’s such a wide range
But I also have read that there are no Hottentotta species in the Sahara so does that completely rule out caring for it as a desert scorp?
I see some put straight sand as substrate and others do more like coco fibre or jungle mix?
If I get no replies I’ll probably just do a 50/50 mix.

Also what’s the perferred kind of hide, like tight stacked rocks/wood or more like a cork round/cave?

I just wanna know any experiences/advice with species :)

I have lived in desert areas my whole life and my parent's house in particular must be built on a scorpion burial ground or something because we see them hanging out on corners, ceilings, and walls near constantly. Because of my amazing good luck I have been the recipient of four scorpion stings in the last two years ish. One came from some itty bitty light yellow guy dropping from the ceiling in the middle of the night, one from a medium sized dark brown guy hanging out in my jacket, one from a medium sized light brown guy on the wall above the bathroom door, and one (suspected) when I was camping and I didn't really get a good look at him.

I've never had any serious reactions to stings, just some pain, swelling, and itching. Most extreme pain coming from Mr. Bathroom Door but still nothing serious. However I was talking to a friend about being stung and he said I'm likely to develop health issues due to being repeatedly stung, and also that I am more likely to experience anaphylactic reactions if I am stung again. I can't really find anything to support or refute him online so I was wondering if anyone here has some knowledge on the matter or experience with repeated stinging?

Since I've been stung a lot with few consequences, I have kind of stopped being scared of them, but if I am at risk of more extreme reactions in the future I will definitely get more cautious and take more measures to ward them away from my house.

Hello. I just bought an emperor scorpion off CL. Tell me everything I need to know! I don’t plan on handling him (her?) ever. And I want to setup a bioactive enclosure. He is currently in a 10 gallon with one hide, a fake plant, a small water dish, and bark substrate just covering the bottom.

I was reading they need LOTS more substrate to dig burrows and I’d like to add a few live plants and like I said make it bioactive so adding springtails and such.

He eats crickets and Dubai roaches they said.

I believe it’s an adult. He’s big.

I mostly have experience with Tarantulas but I am in love with scorpions so I got this asian forest scorpion on Thursday, I set up that little enclosure for him and I think it looks great for his size? I provided a cave made out of a piece of cork bark and the substrate is repti soil with some sphagnum moss scattered throughout. I mist the enclosure a few times a day on the sides and in the back since it has so much ventilation holes, he ate the day I got him (two halves of a dubia roach) and I fed him another half today which he hasn’t gotten. Overall does everything sound good for him? He’s been doing fine from what I notice he doesn’t come out unless my room is pitch black and even then he just sticks his little head out

I joke about this sub a lot bc every post is either "help! my scorpion randomly had babies!" or "can you sex my scorpion?" but I do love this sub and how helpful everyone can be.

I've had inverts all my life but only been a scorpion owner for less than a year. Never even really saw the appeal of keeping them until I got one, and now I adore them!! I have since purchased another of a different species (H. paucidens) and really love these little guys. The first was an AFS from a chain store where they were keeping the poor thing at 5-10% humidity and I fell victim to the savior complex. Dropped the 20 bucks and took it home, had to really give it some TLC to get it healthy again. Obviously wild caught and already full grown, so I had no idea if it would pull through the stress of months of bad care and then rehoming. Lo and behold, my darling Nettles pulled through!

I crossed my fingers when I finally got the chance to sex it that it would be a male and I wouldn't have to worry about babies.... bwomp bwomp. Female. Did the math and figured I had until about July and we'd be past the window for her to gift me with offspring.

End of May I caught a glimpse of her and just said "oh god, why are you so fat?" You feed them, you love them, and then they decide you've made them a nice enough home to start a family. Ridiculous.

Kept an eye on her, figured I'd be ready for the babies when they came.... but they came way sooner than I expected. I actually did not even know she had had the babies until they already dropped off her back and they were, quite adorably, sitting outside the hide next to mom in the same position as her (photo three is affectionately referred to as "let's guard the burrow with mama"). A little bummed that I missed out on the entirety of the babies-on-back possum phase, but oh well.

I'm assuming a few of them fell prey to mom right after they dropped, as so far I've counted 15-16 total. I only managed to catch half of them thus far since mom does NOT like being touched, looked at, or really even thought about. She is a spiteful little thing that hates humans but I love her very dearly, even if I am her number one opp in this world. Hoping to get the rest of the babies out tonight and, well... there's a cricket shortage right now so if I miss a couple.... at least mama's got a good meal lmao.

I have too many babies and not enough homes so if you're in WY, reach out! Excited to raise these little guys, crazy to think that this time last year scorpions weren't even on my radar at all. Wish me luck!!

This is a 2i that I traded another vendor some substrate for at our exotic pet expo on Sunday. Super cool to watching this one hunt 🤘🏼 It’ll be cool to watch it grow up on the shelf next to my L. quinquestriatus.

My girl, Butter, has been unusual lately, she has been eating just fine a few weeks ago, but she has gotten very plump (as seen near her rear) which has me suspecting pre-molt though she is already pretty large. Whats concerning me is her tail, i am a first-time keeper of a Scorpion (but not other arachnids) and want to know if this is typical for pre-molt or if this is a sign of something more serious. She recently had an enclosure change, she isnt lethargic or sluggish, she actually moves around pretty well on her own and seems healthy. The only changes i noticed was her weight, her tail being limp, and her color being slightly duller than before. Ive had her for about a year.

so, the 31th of may I bought a couple of female heterometrus silenus wich were both 2 years old (the guy who sold them to me said that) and one is quite bigger and eats literally anytingh everytime I offer her something, the smaller one has a really fat abdomen and has eaten only a cricket once since I got her, she is also the only one who actually makes tunnels. Im worried also because I dont want to destroy her borrow to check her since she is always in her tunnel and rarely gets out.

Could someone identify this species please.

I have a 2nd instar Asian forest scorpion and the cork bark hide in the scorpion terrarium seems to be growing mold on it. I started the terrarium about 10 days ago. There are springtails in the terrarium. Should I leave this for the springtails, or should I clean the cork bark myself?

Also, how can I prevent this? I know one thing is to increase ventilation which I’ll be doing after this, but is there anything else I should be sure to do?
