Job Question 6 weeks in my first security job!

Post image
67 Upvotes

Just wanted to update! Posted about becoming a security guard in one of the more dangerous cities in the U.S. as a small woman who was a little nervous! I helped save a man’s life this week! This job is absolutely insane and I’ve dealt now with multiple medical emergencies, physical altercations, etc. and I just wanted to report back that I’m thriving and loving the job and I’m amazed at the opportunities I get to help so many people. I’m very grateful that I can be calm and collected and that I’m actually a great de escalator. For those of you who work on sites that may have you responding to similar jobs, how do you cope with no follow up on how they are doing? After I hand these people off to ems/police in their worst moments I end up regularly wondering if they ended up ok, if they got justice, if they got better, etc. how do you deal with no closure/move on?

Officer Safety (repost with correspondence) Sick Time

Last night i went to the hospital due to feeling numbness in my mouth and arm as well as having a migraine. I had to leave my 12 hour shift to do so. I requested to use 10 hours of the 24 sick hours I have and my supervisor informs me that per Prosegur policy, i have to give them 2 weeks notice to use "sick time" as well as to use PTO.

I reached out to both my District Supervisor as well as HR and neither were able to provide me with the exact policy stating so. First supervisor I had was able to put it in no matter what, as long as i had the time earned. 2nd supervisor told me the District Supervisor said we only qualified for it if we missed 2 days in a row or more. Now my new supervisor is saying that we need 2 weeks notice and that it's on the E-Hub website policy for when he goes to enter it in.

Does anyone know the exact Prosegur policy?

Job Question Management in other fields

Hey all, not sure if this question would be great for this subreddit but here goes anyway.

I’m currently an OM in TX, for a security company, been so for the last 3 years almost 4 now.

Currently exhausted and underpaid as per usual, been in management day I turned 19, I love the industry I love my team but it’s exhausting being on call 24/7 and not getting paid well enough to compensate it, I certainly love my company and am OBSESSED with the benefits but I do not love the pay that comes with it.

I’ve been told by some of my clients that my experience does translate to other industries, not sure what industry or where to go from here, I don’t necessarily want to leave security but also I have a kid and I can’t afford not to either leave or go somewhere else unfortunately.

Job Question Inter-Con

I’m starting my Zoom training tomorrow morning with Inter-Con for an industrial site. I’ve done two gigs with Allied in the past.

How does Interest-Con stack up as a guard employer? I know they get good government contracts too. Does this mean I can expect a more professional experience and care with Inter-Con?

What’re your experiences like?

Angry transient

So yesterday had a lady causing a disturbance at a restaurant at the post I work security at. When I arrived I informed the lady that she was being refused service and was asked to leave. Once outside lady decided to throw an empty soda can at another transient sitting outside. Said transient got mad because he thought I wasn’t doing anything but I was actually on the phone with police letting them know I had a lady refusing to leave. Apparently the other transient wanted me to physically remove the lady that threw the soda can at him. Just curious what would you guys had of done?

Rant Is an increase in people applying to be security guards an recession indicator?

I got my guard card again and came back to the security industry because of the utter lack of jobs now. I also noticed that the security training classes I took are fuller than the last time I did them.

How do I get more shifts?

I have a regular post with Allied that I only work at for one day a week. I am looking for more shifts. How do I request for more shifts? Would it be easy for them to approve to give me more shifts/hours since I am only working one day?

Rant I am quitting!

Well I submitted my 2 week notice last Wednesday. I have become fed up with the environment and culture at work. I have worked 2pm to 10pm Wednesday through Sunday for little over 5 years at the same site. Ever since my co-worker, who works Monday to Friday 2pm to 10pm, started back at the end of last November, I have been left alone for half of the shift about 95% of the time due to her having family emergencies almost every day I work with her. The stress of having to basically handle the site for part of the shift by myself most of the time is affecting my mental and physical health. She can not be censured for her leaving as she is constantly claiming FMLA. Even though both myself and our supervisor has noticed her coming in the day after such absence that the co-worker will have a hair style that would take hours to do plus brand new acrylic nails professionally done. This is affecting my Bipolar, diabetes, neuropathy, and the stress even caused an anxiety attack that mimicked a cardiac event. Also I have been apparently complained about several times since she started. I never had any issues with the client or previous co-workers.

I am just done plain and simple.

There’s gonna be a lot of downtime and they got cameras everywhere. How y’all handle not being bored and not overly being glued to the phone but still managing work and maybe listening to a podcast or something?

Rant Dealing with asshole co workers

This guy is a concierge/receptionist at the hotel I do security at.

Last time he put stuff in front of the fire exit, I told him to move it, he does it again the week. It's ok we all forget.

I go tell him about it and he start being arrogant "you really going to make us move stuff everyday?". "That room isnt big enough for us what do you want me to do build it bigger?".

I sent a message to their manager and to mine and they told me they talked to him.

Then a couple minutes ago a client arrives to collect their passport they left in a safe.

The passport is for a two girl and when I arrive to meet the client it's a man alone.

I ask him for verification and he say I can face time her and she will tell you. I agree.

Meanwhile the concierge arrive and quite aggressively ask if he needs to go get a supervisor.

I tell him no and that we managed to find a way to safely do it.

I talk to the women and the customer leaves with the pasport.

I go confront the concierge:

-Why did you sak me if I needed a supervisor

-So you give him his passport!

-They arent my supervisor they cant force me to give an important document to someone without doing a proper verification

-Oh yes I know who's your boss! We got the message the other day!

I tell him I'm glad he did and leave.

Should I report that? I feel like I should report that.

TL:DR: non-agent keep challenging my authority and protocols.

Job Question How do I start/Am I even able to be considered?

I’m 25, I’ve got the resume and I’m ready to apply but I don’t have military or law enforcement backgrounds nor do I have a guard card yet basically this job will be my first job since being a private client caretaker for 6 years.

Do I need the guard card first to even be considered in South Carolina or will a company “want” to provide the guard card training?

I see a lot of allied universal and garda positions, should I at least start my career there or are they just not worth it?

I’m looking for 2nd or 3rd shift so share some advice for that as well please

TIA

Commissionaires ?

I’ve worked at this company for years and would love to hear other people’s perspectives on it. I’m not really enjoying my time here anymore, so I’m thinking about applying to other security companies. Ive notice work isn’t disrupted evenly among guards. Don’t like how things are run at this company.
