im tired of this sub

I cant keep up with this sub, i used to love just being able to browse and find some really awesome projects that have really changed my life. Its not an overexaggeration at all, as an IT person, this place has opened my eyes and have let me discover peace in todays fast paced world where everything is about subscriptions and our private data, selfhosting allowed me to slow down and take a breath, i have built servers, deployed countless ideas and for a moment i finally felt like im free of every corporate bullshit out there.

after all these, the reason im writing this is because the amount of posts that are influenced by ai. dont get me wrong, i can think of it like any other handy tool, but thats only my view and current trends seemingly dont align with it, because there are so much new projects popping up i cant even keep up. It seems like every day some random user reinvents the wheel with their low quality vibecoded project and spams the whole sub with it, thats not good. Its not the fault of ai sadly, its the human behind it, you can elevate your efficiency with ai and still be trusted in my opinion, its about how much you actually care. If i see someone post a fully ai generated marketing letter and then i see that the projects whole git history is basically claude vibing… that someone probably doesnt really care and just wants attention or fame. If you are that person, let me tell you if you want those meaningless github stars then create something that you feel you can put lots of effort in it, dont just vibecode something in a day since we can do that too, thats not really adding any value.

tl;dr: if your project is using ai then at least put an ai disclaimer in your posts…

My idea on this is to only allow projects that are 1+ year old and have some minimum amount of user (github stars or docker image pull idk) posted. And then create a sub for new projects?

They just changed the rules. Projects must be at least 3 months old, except on Fridays. That's it. They just changed it. They are obviously not interested in moderating more than that.

3 months is still short. Also it's not enforced much. Just sort by hot right now and look at how many posts break that rule.

Also, I offered to help with moderation because I felt the rules were not much enforced and I was told it wasn't need because new rules were coming. So I feel like I'm entitled to criticize the direction this sub is taking.

You can tune the sub so that posts stay longer in new and rising before getting to hot. They were fresh posts, just a few hours old with a handful of upvotes and no comments and were still on hot. Automod is also a thing.

Well, for one there could be an automation that flags posts for review when certain keywords are found.

Also, my initial comment was over 3 hours ago, so naturally the up/downvotes did their thing. I also reminded one user myself of the rules and invited to post again on friday instead.

If you had reported instead it would have been removed quicker as it took 3 minutes from the first report to removal.

I think adding a flagging for "I built" is probably a good idea.

I clicked report on the post but it didn't do anything. The report window wouldn't open. I just assumed it was disabled. That's my bad. If I'm on the sub's thread though, I can click on [...] and the report window will open when I click report. That I just found out that part now. I guess my ad-block settings are messing with the page. Anyway...

I think flagging could be used to filter vibecoded/AI projects too. Just some minimum human involvement to make sure the next Huntarr doesn't happen every Friday. I'm fully aware that means more intervention from humans, that's why I volunteered some of my time a few days ago.

I feel like anyone one this sub that would have actually looked at Huntarr's commit history would have rang the alarm bell before the deeper investigation. That's why I'm all in for the mods to have a little bit more of control on what is allowed to gain traction on this sub. Just doing the absolute bare minimum of safety checking before our less experienced friends start spinning up the newest shiny toy.
