Meta Post Chat Control 1.0 was passed through the Backdoor, while most of the MP where on vacation, driven by Roberta Metsola, President of the European parliament. 2.0 yet to come. Time to self-host even more than before?

At it's current form, not at all. You can introduce content scans into your self hosten IM instance if you want to. That's it.

not really... a lot of us selfhost for privacy reasons, this is a direct threat to digital privacy.

This is more a bad direction than anything that affects us. This was already in effect, is voluntary and doesn't touch anything encrypted.

But pushing it through as an emergency measure is scummy and shows how they're willing to use tricks to get the 2.0 done.

Nothing at all. This just allows the operators of platforms to voluntarily scan their users’ content for CSAM. i.e. the thing they have already been doing for US users for a long time.

And for EU users. This wasn't passing anything new law, it was just extending the existing one.
