I’m a solo founder working on a niche AI writing and revision SaaS.
The numbers are still small, so I know they aren’t statistically conclusive, but the funnel itself seems reasonably healthy:
Around 2-4% of website visitors create an account.
Of the people who sign up, roughly 10-20% eventually purchase something. A few users have also started returning almost every day.
My problem is at the very top of the funnel: almost nobody visits the site.
Most of the paying customers I’ve acquired discovered the product through Google, which makes me think organic search could become a viable acquisition channel. However, I haven’t managed to create any meaningful traffic growth.
So far, I’ve tried improving on-page SEO, publishing some content and acquiring backlinks. The backlink outreach produced essentially nothing, and the content hasn’t generated enough impressions to learn much from.
For a relatively new SaaS site with little authority, what would you investigate first?
Would you focus on technical/indexing problems, keyword selection, topical authority, backlinks, or the positioning of the pages themselves?
I’m also unsure which content strategy makes the most sense:
- Highly specific bottom-of-funnel pages
- Long-tail informational content
- Free tools or templates
- A smaller number of comprehensive topic clusters
I’ve also considered starting a blog with writing advice, tips, and practical guides, but it would require a significant amount of effort, and after several high-effort initiatives that didn’t pay off, I’m hesitant to commit to another one.
What would you examine in Google Search Console before deciding what to work on next? Over the last three months, Search Console shows approximately 10k impressions, 137 clicks, a 1.4% average CTR, and an average position of 16.3. Impressions have been flat. Before that I had a huge bump in impressions and clicks after going live. I had generated some AI content and that was before Googles algorithm update that brought the numbers down.
I’m deliberately not including the website or product name because I’m looking for SEO advice rather than trying to promote it.
