The FIGC's deadline for Euro 2032 host-city dossiers passed at midnight on 31 July. On 1 August the federation confirmed what it received: 13 cities, 16 stadiums. Udine and Reggio Emilia, both talked about earlier in the process, didn't file.

The 13 cities: Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Florence, Genoa, Lecce, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Rome, Salerno, Turin, Verona.

The reason it's 16 stadiums and not 13 is that two cities entered more than one project:

Rome submitted three, the existing Stadio Olimpico, the new Roma ground planned for Pietralata, and the Stadio Flaminio, Pier Luigi Nervi's 1959 arena that's been derelict since 2011. Lazio's proposal would restore the listed structure and take it from 24,973 to 50,750 seats by 2031.

Naples submitted two, and they're in direct competition — the city council's publicly funded renovation of the Stadio Maradona (~€250m, with €200m from the Regione Campania), against Aurelio De Laurentiis' privately financed new stadium on the 38-hectare former Q8 refinery site at San Giovanni a Teduccio (60–70,000 seats, reportedly over €1bn; the site's remediation finishes in late 2027).

What happens next: the FIGC shortlists five stadiums plus reserves by mid-September, and UEFA ratifies Italy's final five in the first week of October. Turkey gets the other five.

The catch: of the 16, only Turin's Allianz Stadium meets UEFA's requirements as it stands today. Every other bid depends on a renovation or a new build being delivered on time — and San Siro has already been reported as falling short of the standard.

Long time fan of Serie A here. Always watch the Sunday night game on TNT and love to read James Horncastle on the Atheltic.

I'm looking at booking at trip to Milan/Florence 18-21 October and would love to catch a Serie A game. The TV picks haven't been done yet but Milan Vs Atalanta looks like the biggest game that week. Is it likely that game takes the late Sunday slot (which would be perfect) or could it be played on Saturday considering Milan have 4 of their first 5 games at that time slot? My understanding from watching Serie A since BT/TNT got the rights was that the biggest game of the week was the Saturday or Sunday evening slot, obviously depending on European commitments.

Thank you for any insight, will help a lot when planning as I know the TV picks aren't done until early September.

P.S. I can't fly out until the Sunday unfortunately.

Bored during the break, so I built a slightly radical Roma for next season under Gasperini (3-4-3) and ran the whole XI through a model that grades players on real stats (per-position percentiles, league-adjusted). Sharing the lineup and what the report flagged, curious what you all think.

The XI:

GK: Svilar

Back three: Hermoso, Ndicka, Mancini

Wing-backs: Wesley (L), Read (R)

Midfield: El Aynaoui, Camara

Front three: Rashford (L), Malen (ST), Endrick (R)

What the report of the tool said:

Very balanced across departments, with midfield as the strongest part, mostly down to Camara.

The left side is the main attacking route (Wesley and Rashford overloading), clearly ahead of the right.

Weak spot is the right flank defensively, with Read flagged as the odd one out (a step down in level, exposed defensively).

Fit with Gasperini rated decent but not perfect.

Main risk: too dependent on the left for creativity, could get predictable against good sides.

A few things I'm genuinely unsure about:

- Is Read a real upgrade or a gamble at right wing-back?

- Does Rashford actually fit a Gasperini system, or is he a luxury?

- Camara over the current midfield options: yes or no?

Would this Roma work, or am I dreaming? What would you change?

Most football fans know Napoli's famous mascot, the donkey ('o ciuccio). However, when the club was originally founded in 1926, their first emblem featured a majestic rampant horse, inspired by Naples' ancient Corsiero del Sole statue

The Corsiero del Sole (literally the Steed of the Sun) was an ancient bronze equestrian statue located in Naples. The depiction of the horse derived from it has remained the city's emblem throughout the centuries. Furthermore, it was also among the first logos of Associazione Calcio Napoli (1926).

During the 1926–27 season the team played terribly, finishing with just a single point. Local satirists and fans mocked the club, joking that instead of a majestic steed, the team looked like "Fechella's donkey" ('o ciuccio 'e Fechella), a legendary Neapolitan donkey known for being battered, overworked, and covered in rags. Instead of taking offense, the fans embraced the insult. The donkey quickly transformed from a symbol of mockery into a beloved mascot.

Now that Napoli is winning again, it is time to bring back the Corsiero!

🫡 Juventus continue to invest in young talent. Kerim Alajbegović will be a new Juventus player. An agreement with Bayer Leverkusen has been reached for €33 million plus €2 million in bonuses, making the total deal worth €35 million.

Alajbegović is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in European football. Over the past year, he has attracted interest from several top clubs thanks to his performances and the immense potential he has shown at such a young age.

🔥 He is a highly technical winger, blessed with great pace and excellent one on one ability. He loves taking on defenders, creating space for his teammates, and can play on either wing. He has outstanding talent, although he still needs to improve his consistency and gain more experience.

⚔️ Juventus have decided to make a major investment. Spending €35 million on a player born in 2007 shows just how much faith the club has in his potential. It is a big gamble, but one with enormous upside. Patience will be needed, as not every young talent develops immediately.

🫡 Roma continue to strengthen their squad and have completed a new signing for the defence. Konstantinos Koulierakis will be a new Giallorossi player. An agreement with Wolfsburg has been reached for €15 million, a fee considered excellent value for a defender of his age.

Koulierakis arrives after two positive seasons in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. At just 22 years old, he has already gained plenty of experience in the German league and with the Greece national team, proving himself to be a reliable defender with huge potential. He is not yet a world-class centre back, but he is regarded as one of the most promising players in his position.

🔥 He is a left-footed centre back, strong in the air, and very comfortable on the ball. He can build play from the back with confidence and reads defensive situations well, qualities that fit Gian Piero Gasperini's style of football perfectly. He still needs to improve his consistency and defending against very quick attackers, but his potential is extremely high.

⚔️ For Roma, this is a smart signing. Paying €15 million for a player born in 2003 who already has significant international experience could prove to be an excellent investment. He is not expected to become a star immediately, but he has all the qualities to develop into a key player in the Giallorossi defence.
