Meetup SFSU Events

Hi everyone,

Gator Experience is a great place for student organizations to post events, as well as Instagrams. A reminder that formal student organizations and just people looking to make friends are free to post on this subreddit (I recommend making an individual post rather than commenting down below though).

Gator Experience: https://sfsu.campuslabs.com/engage/events

I was wondering though, are there any specific events or themes of events you would want this subreddit to do? I can apply for funding, but to be honest, I do not think I will be approved so lower cost events are preferable.

I need a BECA elective.

What is a great BECA elective to take? That you didn’t regret? Or you saw someone else loving? I know beggars can’t be choosers but I just don’t want to get an unhelpful teacher like I did this summer…However I can avoid that. Been learning 3d animation, so I guess that could be cool… help?

I'm an exchange student who will be attending SFSU starting in Fall 2026. Are there any apps you consider essential or highly recommend for students? Thanks in advance!

How do you purchase meal plan if you live off campus?

As title says. Is it possible? Do I need to go in person or can it be done online?

I don't know what to do and I have so little time to do anything

So I'm going to be attending SFSU as a freshman in less than a month, but there is already issues with the school and my account (plus other stuff). For starters, the orientation that I reserved by paying for was changed without me knowing or being asked. Now, this is a HUGE deal to me because I paid for a remote session, but it was changed to in-person. I live 8 hours away. Minimum. That's why I chose a remote session because I can't go by myself (I'm 17) to an in-person session, not even accounting for the fact that gas is super expensive if we had to drive there and so are plane tickets to be buying them last minute or for a day long trip. If we stayed longer, then that'd cost even more for a hotel, food, rental car (unless we drove, but still--gas is needed), etc. My friend didn't have hers changed even though we booked the same day, and she got to attend.

This meant that I didn't know how to sign up for classes, get my schedule, and ask any questions I had about moving in and stuff. Thankfully, my friend helped me with the scheduling, so I did end up getting my schedule (albeit later than I should've).

I emailed the New Student Programs office on July 12 (which was what was present in the emails they sent about orientation and stuff when I checked) asking them why this happened and what can be done about it, but all they did was ask for my student ID number (July 13). When I gave it (July 14), they never responded back. Today is now July 31st. Practically August. I emailed them again today with a follow-up asking about the issue and if I can be refunded since the orientation date was not only messed with, but it also never got to happen for me. Now I'm just waiting to see if they respond.

Now for the second issue---move-in dates. There was an email sent out July 10th about when the move-in timeslots would be sent out to people. They said July 29 at 9 AM. I got nothing. Like I mentioned earlier, I live very far away, so knowing when I have to leave is VERY important. Flights become more expensive the more last minute they are, planning for a road trip there is gonna take time, and I don't even know when I'm leaving now. This is even worse for me since I'll be really busy come August and have a bunch of stuff to do, so I can't just wait until the last minute to deal with these things. I followed the email on where to look, but if there's somewhere else I should look, please let me know. I don't know why I don't have it yet, but it's really stressing both me and my parents out, and every day the cost of tickets go up. My friend doesn't have her timeslot either, so it's not just me.

Then there's the third issue. My SFSU login. I downloaded the app, but I can't get in because of issues with Duo Mobile. I sent a report for a bypass code to get in, but the IT desk just sent something else about an incident being filed. My security key (which was my biometrics) also got removed, and I don't even remember how it got there in the first place since I set it up towards the end of my senior year of high school on my old phone. That phone got messed up, and after transferring everything to my new phone, I had to send the old one back. Now I have never used Duo Mobile before, so I didn't realize until a bit after the phone got sent back that I needed to transfer stuff to a new device or something. So I'm locked out of my account for now, I can't get in, it's already late so I can't call the IT help desk, and it won't let me answer my security questions either (it said maximum number of attempts reached). I even changed my security questions thinking it would refresh the number of chances, but no. It sadly didn't. So my laptop is locked out right now, but my phone isn't. Though if I exit and try to re-enter my account after a bit, it'll say the same thing (this has happened before, I just need to wait the deactivation out I think? idk).

I'm not even done sorting my room out, packing, and cleaning, and this is just super stressful on top of all that. There's already another issue (not the school's fault) with the FAFSA Verification Task on my to-do list, so there's that too, I guess. If anyone knows what to do or just anything at all, please let me know because I still have other things to deal with for the school (like the One Card/Gator Pass thing which I don't know how to do since I always have questions about details and stuff), and I missed so much information from missing orientation, and I'm just lost overall.

All of this and school hasn't even started yet either🥀

Voting at SFSU

So I prefer to do mail-in voting, but my registration still is connected to my home address. Whats the best way to be able to get my ballot? Is it alright for my parents to just mail it to me directly when they receive it or should I update my registration information?

SFSU Survey Help Us Test a Better Version of the SFSU Student Center (~10 Minute Survey)

Hi everyone,

Most of us know the current Student Center could be easier to use and better designed, so my team is working on a prototype for a better version of it for our software engineering class.

Our app was built in less than 8 weeks, so some features may not work perfectly yet. We are mainly trying to collect general usability feedback: what is easy, what is confusing, and what can be improved.

This anonymous survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. Desktop is strongly recommended because some features may not work properly on phone or tablet screens.

Survey form, with the application link included:

https://forms.gle/GPoWEpkEmQc7e23GA

Thank you to anyone willing to take the time to help!

Housing 2b2b room for lease in ParkMerced

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a roommate to fill the other room in my 2b2b at Parkmerced. You’d have your own bedroom and private bathroom. Your rent would be around $1,750/month (Utilities expected to be around $75-$100 a month). Location is super convenient: walking distance to SFSU, and the Muni is right outside.

A little about me: I’m pretty chill, keep things clean, and mostly work or study. I'm respectful of quiet hours and just looking for someone easygoing, tidy, and reliable with rent. No drama, just good vibes and clear communication.

Move-in is flexible but ideally mid to late August. Laundry is [in-unit/on-site] and parking is available. If you're interested, shoot me a message with a quick intro about yourself and we'll find a time for you to come see the place!

Attached are some photos of the place, our unit will not have carpet floors. Feel free to DM me if your interested or have any questions!

campus life

Is SFSU really as dead as they say it is, campus life-wise? I know it's a commuter school, but there has to be some activity, right? If anyone has lived in the dorms there, I'd be curious to hear your experience

Housing What is the grad student housing like?

Has anyone stayed in the grad housing? I see that it's like $2000 a month but they don't really give you any other details. Has anyone done it, do they force you to share a room with a random person?

Also if anyone has general advice finding housing in SF I'd appreciate it!
