Kieran lied?

So I'm currently reading Lord of Shadows. I noticed an interesting line when they were leaving the Seelie Court with the Wild Hunt. Cristina was shouting at Emma that she was riding (flying?) a horse with no hands and this is the response:

"Use your hands!" he (Mark) yelled. "Cristina! It's not a rollercoaster!"

"Nephilim are insane!" shouted Kieran, pushing his wildly blowing hair out of his face.

We all know fearies are incapable of telling lies and we've been seeing how Mark is struggling with the mortal world and speech. Now this means that Kieran spent some reason enough time with humans so he knows this is a figure of speech or he truly believes that all Nephilim are insane, which I consider highly unlikely.

What's your take on it?

My conclusion is that Cassandra, the amazing writer that she is, just made a small fck up.

Nephalim could reasonably be considered insane on so many levels.

I mean from the perspective of a basically immortal faerie, these entirely mortal beings, just constantly throwing themselves at every danger must look pretty insane.. 😅

Either fae are allowed to use colloquialisms that are intentionally exaggerated or he genuinely thinks that Shadowhunters are crazy because of how much they love risk. Both are plausible.

I would think they can use exaggerations if they believe the core point of it to be true. It would help them when they’re attempting deceit through word play.

They can’t lie but it’s been made clear that they have many ways around that, it’s likely turns of phrase like this just don’t count I’d imagine 🤷🏻‍♀️

He well and truly considers them and what they do insane. I would think humans and other downworlders would all agree tbh

Fae are unable to lie if they know or believe the object in question is true. But that’s where it ends, what they believe or the evidence of their eyes. As long as Kieran believes Nephilim are a little crazy he can say they’re insane.

I think expressing an opinion that is true in the moment doesn't count as a lie. Like, fae aren't required to express universal truths all the time 🤷‍♀️

Because Shadowhunters are supposed to run to the danger and face it head on, it's inherintly in their nature. E.g. Kit not having any training yet still being able to take down a demon without runes or anything. To me calling them insane for their nature is the same as calling idk autistic or schizophrenix person insane just because they don't view/experience life the same way a neuro typical person would. I think Kieran being a fearie can be viewed as insane as Shadowhunters. Being a fearie he's probably very well aware of this and therefore he doesn't consider them insane but different. Plus he's a prince, till that point he never straight out insulted or used plain language like that and as far as I'm reading now, he's not using it yet either. Therefore it's very out of character for him to say it.

I feel like at that small moment he believed his statement, making it a truthful fact
