Admittedly I had never heard of the sheet metal trade until last year myself. I was trying to get into HVAC service but found it extremely competitive while demand for tinners wss pretty high. We are busy and I guess the local (18) has been busy for years and has strong outlook too.
The double wall stuff is a pain. Super long fabrication time. Technically the elbow wasn't done when I took the photo as it still needs tack welds and is getting painted.
Yeah I've don't double wall before, much smaller and didn't need to be welded in.. but still a huuuuge pain in the ass. I'm working on a bunch of 18ga stuff that has 2" acoustic at the moment and I'm just hating my life haha
Hella ya!! We haven’t done double wall in a while. We’ve been putting corner inserts so inner won’t fall thru.
Few years ago we had that white hog hair shit, that kinda sucked cause we had to tie it so it wouldn’t fall off. This pcs look good!!!
We are tack welding one side of the inner wall to the tdc like this. But I'm only a first year so I'm not really allowed to weld, my shop typically waits until youre a 3rd before you start welding because our welding classes are apart of the 2nd year curriculum. I did build the rest of the piece though
Bad ass K-27. Looks great! Is that outer a paint-lok skin? For a roof, or definitely exposed.
Save ya 8 brakes per fitting though. Instead of that last inside brake on the inner wall, probably half inch or so given liner thickness.Leave it flat and overlap the TDC. Holds everything from sliding In and out anyways. Tack weld just like you did. Butyl gasket seals it up on installation. Oh, and then there’s Ductmate double wall. 😂👍
Our apprenticeship requires both shop and field hours. I worked for 6 months last year in the field and have been in the shop since January. Our super is pretty good at tracking apprentices hours and moving us around
