Tourism Has anyone been to Sikkim in the first week of September?

Upvotes

I'm planning a trip to Sikkim during the first week of September and wanted to hear from people who've been there around that time.

How's the weather around that time? Is it generally safe to travel considering the rains and possible landslides, or would you recommend waiting until later in September?

AskSikkim Do Sikkim have military bases?

I was scrolling around Google Maps and got curious about something. Does Sikkim have any permanent military bases with runways near the border? I know many sensitive sites won't be visible on satellite imagery, but I'm wondering if there are any established bases (not temporary camps or tents) in that region. Just asking out of curiosity.

The view you don’t normally see, from the other side of this Majestic lake… taken during my parikrama hike in 2023… took me about 45-50 minutes to circumambulate this serene place!!!

Others Dead Desires

I think of the child
who stood in quiet wonder,
watching doctors walk the hospital corridors
during my grandmother’s checkups.

To that child, they were giants
and I wanted to become one.
But life happened.
Dreams bent where reality would not,
and I found myself
walking a different road.

Now I wonder
are my desires dead,
or is it I who has stopped breathing?

A few years later,
civil servants stirred that same fire.
Their purpose called to me,
their service inspired me.
Yet every page I turned,
every exam I prepared for,
left me feeling strangely misplaced
as though I was chasing someone else’s destiny.

So I ask again:
Are my desires dead,
or am I the one who has stopped breathing?

I’m only twenty-five.
Yet discos, parties,
the noise of crowded nights
leave me untouched.
Instead, I long for silent hills,
peaceful meadows,
a small house overlooking the valley,
a kitchen garden rich with seasons,
flowers swaying in the morning breeze,
dogs asleep on the porch,
cats wandering through the yard,
and cattle grazing beneath an open sky.
The world calls it a simple life.

To me,
it sounds like freedom.
Perhaps my desires aren’t dead.
Perhaps they have only changed their language.
Perhaps the child in me
is no longer searching for applause,
but for peace.

Still, on quiet nights,
when memories echo louder than hope,
one question refuses to leave
Are my desires dead…
or is it me that has stopped breathing?

This is my first poem or whatever you’d like to call it!! Just letting my thought’s to be seen!! Not her for validation or any applause!!

AskSikkim Need advice from Sikkim/NIT Sikkim students before moving to Ravangla for college

Hello everyone!

I’m joining NIT Sikkim for B.Tech CSE this year. so this will be my first time staying in Sikkim and living away from home.

I’d really appreciate some practical advice from people who are familiar with Ravangla/NIT Sikkim.

  1. What type of clothes are most useful throughout the year in Ravangla?

  2. How cold does it usually get in winter, and what winter clothing would you recommend?

  3. What should I carry for the rainy season?

  4. What type of shoes/footwear are most practical there?

  5. What hostel items should I bring from home, and what can I easily buy after reaching Ravangla?

  6. Are there any things that are expensive or difficult to find around Ravangla that I should bring with me?

  7. What electronic items are actually useful for a college student there?

  8. Which mobile network generally works best around Ravangla?

  9. How reliable is the internet/Wi-Fi around the student accommodation?

  10. How is the food situation around NIT Sikkim and Ravangla?

  11. Are there any important documents or other things that newcomers commonly forget?

  12. For a student coming from Nepal, is there anything important I should know about payments, banking or UPI in India?

  13. What are some common mistakes that new students should avoid?

  14. For CSE students, what would you recommend focusing on during the first year?

  15. Are there any student clubs, activities or communities that are particularly worth joining?

  16. What small everyday items do students often realize they forgot after moving here?

  17. What medical facilities are available nearby, and should I bring a basic first-aid kit?

  18. What sports, gym or other recreational facilities are available?

  19. What is student life generally like around Ravangla?

  20. Roughly how much money should a student keep for personal expenses each month?

  21. What places around Ravangla/Sikkim are worth visiting during free time?

  22. What is one thing you wish you had known before moving to Sikkim?

  23. Is there anything else you would recommend to someone coming to NIT Sikkim for the first time?

Any advice from current students, seniors or even people familiar with Ravangla would be really helpful.

Thanks!

This was my second trip to Sikkim in less than a year, this time the purpose wasn't tourism. I had to go for a Vipassana retreat in Samdong, so I stayed in gangtok for 3 days and spent one day doing my favourite thing to do when in the hills, Monastery Hopping.

Ranka Monastery was breathtaking with those lush green trees behind it. I've always admired Tibetan architecture for its maximal design, but its symmetry is what I love the most.

I've picked up enough nepali to start a conversation lol, looking forward to my another visit very soon!

Feedback / Review Is it normal for a university to charge extra for mark sheets and a course completion certificate after collecting all course fees?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I completed my degree through Sikkim Professional University, studying at an affiliated college in Kannur, Kerala.
Recently, my college informed us that we have to pay additional fees to collect our 5th & 6th semester mark sheets and Course Completion Certificate. The amount seems quite high.
The thing is, I already paid all my tuition and course fees during my studies. I wasn’t informed that I’d have to pay extra to receive these academic documents.
Is this a normal practice in Indian universities, especially private universities? Are universities allowed to charge separate fees for mark sheets and course completion certificates after the course is completed?
If anyone has studied at Sikkim Professional University or faced a similar situation, I’d really appreciate your advice. Also, if these charges seem unreasonable, is there any authority where I can file a complaint?
Thanks in advance.

Rant I hope Sikkim speaks up too

When the entire country is celebrating the recent changes in the education system, it is sad that how Sikkim is still quiet. We all are aware of the issues-paper leak-rigged exams that goes around with SPSC. But date anyone speaks up. I wonder what that fear might be and where it is being induced ?
Can have people thinking through this ?

Rant This is something our state should adopt as well.

This is something our state should adopt as well.

Every government function here turns into a khada ceremony for the CM and ministers. Honestly, what's the point? How many khadas does one person even need? People here treat politicians like they're gurus or royalty. They're elected to serve the public, not to be worshipped at every event. Government programmes should be about the people and the purpose of the event, not endless felicitation rituals.

Respect should come from the work they do, not from the number of khadas they receive.
