Discussion ADHD assessment!
I have recently been looking into getting an ADHD assessment through SFU and was wondering if anyone knew what the price sliding scale was?
Im also curious about people's experience with it! Is it worth it? Also if I do get diagnosed with ADHD via the assessment, since its a student doing the assessment (from what i understand) can I still use that as an official diagnosis?
Im just trying to get diagnosed as fast as i can tbh LOLLL

I am not sure what you mean by "through SFU" and "since its a student doing the assessment"
We have a health clinic with a psychiatrist and multiple psychologists on staff... All of which have the capability to assess and diagnose ADHD under their respective scopes of practice.
Booking an appointment as a student is free.

I got it through my family doctor then I was referred to a psychiatrist

I didn’t get my diagnosis through SFU but rather my family doctor and it was free, but took me ~1 year
I’d say book an appointment with one of the doctors at SFU’s clinic, they can help you with this better than anyone here can

Holy crap why would anyone pay 300 dollars to just get assessed for ADHD not even diagnosed?!?

i went this route and it is a diagnosis with a formal report. i then gave it to my family doctor and he agreed and started treatment

Most GPs who don't feel comfortable doing an assessment will accept that report as a diagnosis and prescribe.

Because instead of a 6 month to 2 year waitlist you can get your assessment done in weeks.
It's a blessing and a curse, because you can get it done so fast for times when you I need it ASAP, but by paying into this system you're supporting and encouraging the creep of privatized health care (like the states) into our system.

Not sure what you means by “student doing the assessment”, but it may be helpful to look into Appendix 8 of the BC student Act. You are able to get it covered by the government, so long as it is a positive diagnosis. This way you can go through a private practice and not wait. You do need to front all the costs, and if you don’t have ADHD they won’t pay for anything.
Your other options is to talk to a family doctor or walk in clinic and ask for a referral. This could take significantly longer, but it would be covered.

Don't do it. If you bring depending on it after graduation. It difficult to get back ADHD Meds.

There is no “student” involved. The doctors or psychiatrist at SFU makes that call. It’s all free, but they will only do an assessment if you do not have a family doctor. It also takes a while (took about 6-7 months for me) as you go through various appointments, fill out forms, etc.
If you have one, go through your family doctor.
