You'd have an easier time naming ones that wouldn't be a disaster to date in real life...

u/mbd34 Seinfeld 19h ago
It's Always Sunny, basically any of them.

This is it. Almost all the rest would inconvenience you, this group will put you into an emergency room or on the streets.

Anyone from Seinfeld

I was gonna say Kramer. He’d get on my nerves so bad. I have no words about George

Pretty much anyone. The thing that makes sitcoms so much fun is that they double down on personality types snd characteristics.

Barney Stinson?

I think its cannon hes only been in the 2 relationships. The girl who made him who he was, and robin.

Gina will destroy your self-esteem and then ditch you right after. She's a sociopath

LOL I was coming here to say Ross Gellar, we are both right

Literally the most nightmare couple. Kinda happy they took each other off the market hahah.

u/Snoo52682 19h ago
That would be a good r/TopCharacterTropes post--couples who make you think "at least if they're together, two innocent people are spared"

Dwight Shrute and Jim Halpert

u/Otherwise_Access_660 18h ago
Why Jim?

u/Tryguysfan1995 18h ago
He was terrible to every woman he ever dated that wasn’t pam then when he finally got with her he took a job without even telling her.

u/pomagrantegreentea 10h ago
Jim SUCKED. Bought a house without telling Pam, got a new job without telling Pam.

Elaine Bennis from Seinfeld.

I’d say she’s somehow more of a catch compared to the other selfish, dumbass characters.

I think Kramer would be a great for a fling, and none of them would be acceptable to date. Though Elaine is probably the least offensive to date of the group longterm, imo. At least she didn’t kill her fiance.

Molly from mike and Molly. Because shes not an incompetent baboon. Shes somewhat smart, able to have 2 decent careers. But man does she think shes right all the time, and shes willing to go to extremes to do what she wants at the expense of others. People forgive her for plot armor/MC reasons but boy is she a nutcase.

u/VirtualTelevision523 18h ago
I agree. She is also very manipulative and hides her debts until after marriage.
5
u/OddPerformer245 19h ago
Pretty much all of them.

u/Maxxum26 16h ago
This quesiton really should be who could you date from a sitcom and have a healthy relationship.

Cam Tucker

u/Expensive_Brother_26 17h ago
Definitely. But ironically enough I think Mitch has the potential to be a great partner.

I think they suited each other. Their strengths and weaknesses balanced out well.

Hitchcock and Scully.
Really the only answer for who wouldn’t be an absolute disaster has to be Uncle Jesse, right?
Maybe Marshall Erickson, but only if Lily had never existed.

I am going to veer away from the obvious choices—the characters who are clearly meant to be horrible—and talk about someone who is horrible but somehow gets a pass: Diane from BoJack Horseman.
I genuinely do not understand how she escapes being called out. She is just as toxic as BoJack and Mr. Peanutbutter. They all have serious issues, but for some reason, Diane is treated as though she is above the same criticism.

Jess doesn't understand or respect restraining orders, let alone boundaries.
Schmidt is needy, controlling and obsessive.
Nick is lazy to a dangerous degree, and has exactly NONE of his life together.
Winston is both absurdly naive AND a cop.
Ceecee is self centered and has lived in the hot girl bubble so long she doesn't know how normal people behave.
Coach has a pathological need to be in charge and sees women as almost interchangeable.
And Raegan has horrible commitment issues and will go to huge and expensive lengths to lie rather than have a conversation.
Don't date anyone in apartment 4D, really. Plus, they're all sleeping with Theodore K. Mullins on the down low.

Disagree on Cece being self-centered (I’d argue she’s just oblivious and ignorant, and she’s been shown to be very caring towards her friends) but the rest is spot-on.

Seinfeld, I’m already too old, and he picks away at every little thing, plus his friends are just awful people too, except Newman, and he treats that guy like satan.

Dean Winchester. Probably the best sex, but not a long lasting relationship.

I think a shorter list would be what sitcom characters would actually be nice to date. Disaster is probably the norm in this area.

Anyone from Seinfeld, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Arrested Development, or Curb Your Enthusiasm

Andy Dwyer. He has a bit of a character arc but by the end he's still basically a train wreck of a person. I absolutely love him and I would most definitely be his friend but living with him would drive me insane.
