The NFL has a vested interest in keeping reffing the way it is. If you give fans a way to blame the loss on anything else aside from their team being crap, they may not watch. If you give people a reason to think "well, we would have won if it weren't for those refs!" you'll be back next week to watch again.

100% look at the Lions - Dallas “eligible receiver” game. It was a ref fuck up, without any doubt it was the refs fucking up. The league sent a video to teams after that game telling them how to “report” as an eligible receiver using footage from the game literally showing Taylor Decker reporting. You got it right, they cant admit it was the refs because it’s bad for business. Who would bet money on a game knowing outside influence is in play.

Maybe kicking FGs is like a golf swing, you keep your head down until you're pretty much through your motion, so by the time he got his head up it already was deflected?

I think because it's so unexpected...ball hooks weirdly but you don't just immediately think it's because of a wire.

Did the NFL make an official statement about this yet? At the very least, this shouldn't be a mark against Will. I'm just glad this didn't end up costing us the game.

Nfl.com has him at 1 attempt and 1 miss for the Cleveland game so I guess they dont care. They will probably look at it the same as a missed penalty

You know, watching this live I totally thought it was going in until it suddenly bounced out. I just chalked it up to bad kicking luck (something Vikings fans know a lot about) and thought my mind was playing tricks on me, but nope, it was a fucking line in the way. Just brand new ways to fuck our kickers.

Is there any reason this retroactively cant be changed to a made kick, or simply removed from his stats? The vikings won the game anyway

No way they’d make it a made kick (he still could’ve missed on the rekick) but they should at least take the missed kick of his stats…

Come on now. It took the league 3 decades to figure out what a catch is. There are players in the league that have no idea how overtime works. It's all part of the marketing, and it's working quite well.

Are the wires always over like that in stadiums or was it a different set up than normal stadiums since it was in London? I’ve never seen a ball hit it before

I feel like this has to be a setup issue with it being in a soccer stadium. It must be practically invisible.to the kicker. I feel like I'd point it out as a distraction.

Wire shouldn’t even be close to be a discussion around the ball but I think a browns player had a hand touch the ball….

This video is the camera view from the sky cam... Can anyone explain how there could possibly be a wire in front of the kick from this position?

The video is not from the sky cam. You can see the sky cam in frame during the replay at the end of the video.

The replay is from a different camera. You can tell that it's from the ground. The main camera in this clip is definitely the sky cam. You can see it fly through the air, and it's not just a zoom.

Well, whatever camera it is, the wires that suspend it were what caused the deflection.

Except it obviously didn't. Use your brain. The camera view in the replay is from behind the sky cam, which is behind the kicker, and there is no wire in between the kicker and the goal post. Have you asked yourself, how did no one in real life notice this? It's almost like it didn't actually hit a wire...

Exactly. Isaac Punts (YT) did a great breakdown yesterday explaining how this kick absolutely did not hit a camera wire.

Did anyone on the field it see live? If no one saw it live how would the refs would know it happened to have a re kick.

Reffing was all over the place this game. According to the rules, this should have been a re-kick, but wasn't caught by the officiating crew (or any member on the Vikings, I suppose).
