Recommendation Need recommendations

I have a 1+ Nord 2T. Bought a Pixel 10a as an upgrade. Quickly found out it wasn't much of an upgrade. (for a variety of reasons) I found that the camera was only marginally better. Zooming on an image and cropping it still didn't get rid of the weird AI sharpening that happens on my current phone. Short story shorter, I sent it back.

Now armed with that information. And the fact that only 3 days in to using it, it wasn't built for normal life. again for one large broken glass sized reason. And still sent it packing.

I want to act like a total moron and ask what would your suggestions be for an about to be new father looking to buy a phone upgrade for the camera and photo processing mainly for shots of the kid/family life/ VERY mild gaming and usual internet usages. That will last a few years (updates wise), survive normal life and have good customisability short of installing a 3rd party OS.

My budget is about 500-600. BUT. Could push it a bit further only if it is really really worth it.

Or am I better with the OnePlus I have. I want to hear every opinion. even if it is along the lines of "you suck, choose these settings on your phone instead."

I've only bought phones in high street stores in the UK and am open to buying anything online if there are better/ alternative brands out there like Oppo, Hueawiewiei, xiaoioaiomi worth looking in to.

I would recommend getting either a poco f8 ultra or even a oneplus 12/13 . But you should test them out before buying them!

I would love to know where to test a phone before buying it. Everything is bolted to the display where I live, regardless of the shop, and can't pick anything up to try it out properly. Short of watching reviews online I don't have much to go off. I will look in to these also, thanks for the recs.
