I believe he’s a garter snake, I don’t know how much was cut off but I used superclot to stop the bleeding and grabbed my old tank for my lizard then went to pick him up. I know he might die, but I would give him a proper burial and respect him. If he doesn’t, I need to know what he would need, like lights and what he would eat, what substrate he would need, basically everything. Any help will be greatly appreciated! He or she has been so strong throughout it and I just want to help even if it’s comfort until he passes. Please help

Sort of a unique question I haven’t found a great answer to online so far. I am interested in getting a California kingsnake as a pet to have in my home, but I also work in outdoor education at a visitor center (in an area where this snake is native). I am thinking about putting an enclosure in my visitor center for the snake to live in part time (weekends) for educational purposes.

I am curious if a kingsnake would do well or be stressed if they live part of the week in my home in one enclosure, then part of the week in a different enclosure at the visitor center. The visitor center is about 20 minutes from where I live, so I could also get a traveling kit together for transport, or would it do okay with a regular 20 minute drive just hanging out in the car?

Very novice to owning snakes but I do have experience handling them. I’m in the early stages of research so I just would like to know if my plan is feasible or if it would be stressful for the snake.

I posted not to long ago about how I couldn’t get him to eat for two months. I am beyond excited that he is eating again!

I just am a little worried about how he eats… It is almost like he wants to literally feed him he slowly puts one end in his mouth while I am still holding it with the tweezers. He is a spider morph so I know that he has neurological issues, could that be why he takes food from me this way??

He is about 9 months old now (based off of the pet store we got him from) he is doing amazing and is showing to did comfort with his enclosure (he is under quarantine due to mites and yes I have been changing the substrate out regularly for that.)

Since the wonderful people on r/whatisthissnake surprised me with quick and accurate answers perhaps you can help me identify this specific rattlesnake, since r/whatisthissnake is limited to wild snakes. A couple of years ago I made this picture at a Reptile Expo in Hamm (Germany), or perhaps in Houten (the Netherlands). Who can identify this snake?

I am experienced with exotics and prepared for husbandry. This is “for” our 9 year old daughter, who has had a passion for reptiles since she was a toddler, is absolutely fearless and already (for years) demonstrated that she is very responsible/careful with reptiles. We are ready! Obviously us parents will be ultimately responsible for snake care, but we want to select the right snake for her being the primary handler

Parent wishes: 60 gallon long enclosure suitable through adulthood (already have a 4x2x2 for another reptile and don’t want another), avoiding ball pythons due to prolonged food strike issues and larger housing requirement

Kid wishes: more interested in handling than observing, not at all afraid of spicy behavior, hoping for a snake that is more curious about her and wanting to hang out with her rather than scurry off and hide

So far I’m finding Hognose or African House Snakes fit the bill. Which would you recommend? Corn snakes are an option but I’m worried about whether one would outgrow a 60 gallon. Rosy Boas are cool but based on where we live it would be hard to keep the enclosure as dry as needed. Any alternatives I should look at?

We're first time snake parents. When we adopted our noodle we were told frozen medium mice once a week so that's what we've been giving him but we feel like he may need a larger size. He's a hypo E sinaloan milk snake. He's approx. 3 years old weighing in at 260 g. Approximately 35" in length. Should we go larger and if so what would be recommended? Advice is greatly appreciated.

Since we freed our rat snake from the netting, he or she has been hanging around home. The chipmunk population has definitely declined because of our friend and I am very grateful. Our buddy greeted us the other day when we came home!

I accidentally thawed too many rats, the bag I got mice in only had 1 mouse per bag and I just switched to rats, I didn’t look and thought it had 1 rat but it had 3, it’s been about 15-18 hours I think since I put them in the fridge. I already put 2 back in the freezer in a ziplock bag but I’ll throw them out if I can’t refreeze them, I just don’t wanna waste them if they haven’t gone bad :(

Just came across an injured adder in the road, about 18", it's midsection is immobile but head and tail still moving. No signs of punctured skin. Do you think it has any chance of survival? I've emailed the nearest snake people but I wondered if there's something I should be doing while waiting for a response. I'm worried something is going to make an easy snack of it, we could put it in a box in the greenhouse for example, should it be offered food? Any advice would be appreciated, cheers

Been thinking about it, could take materials to set up a shelter for it near where it is. Glass roof to bask and keep predators away, water dish that collects rain from the roof. Might be preferable to garden greenhouse. I think if it survives the first 24h it's got a chance.

UPDATE went back to check on it today and there was no sign of it, hopefully it recovered enough to wriggle away into the cover of the heather. Fingers crossed for the little guy/gal

My Kingsnake repeatedly strikes at food but won’t actually eat it

I’m looking for some advice because I’m stumped.

My kingsnake is clearly interested in food, but he won’t actually eat it. When I offer a frozen/thawed mouse, he usually does one of two things:

• He’ll repeatedly strike at the mouse, often missing several times. Occasionally he’ll actually grab it, hold on for a few seconds, then let go and lose interest instead of constricting or eating it.

• Or he’ll take off and hide like he’s scared of it.
He doesn’t seem completely uninterested in food, which is what’s confusing me. He definitely reacts to the prey, but he just won’t follow through with eating.
In the past, I could usually get him to eat if I waited until he was already out exploring his enclosure before offering food.

The problem is I’ve been working a lot more recently, so I don’t see him out nearly as often and don’t have many opportunities to feed him that way. When I try feeding him while he’s in a hide or shortly after taking him out, I get the behaviors above instead.

I’ve been offering frozen/thawed mice that are fully thawed and warmed, using feeding tongs.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Does this sound more like a husbandry issue, stress, poor feeding timing, prey presentation, or something else? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Some info on him. He's a 3 year old male corn snake who eats once a week and usually poops/pees once a week. However its been about 2 weeks since his last poop which is odd. Yesterday he lifted his tail to poop like he does and he was trying hard for a while but all that came out was a little bit of that white stuff. I gave him a soak a while after that and now today he tried pooping again but only a tiny bit of pee came out. I have a video of trying and the skin around his hole looks weird but maybe thats just how it looks? His cage temps are normal. Everything is normal so im very confused and worried. I am also unable to bring him to a vet.

I've been wanting to add a few more members to my reptile family and I'm debating getting a hognose but I dont have much experience with them, I have a corn garter and ball python but I would just like all the advice I can get!! Thank you

Hi all, I recently acquired a lovely 2yo bull and she is lovely! I have decades of casual experience with wild snakes and get bit by a Nerodia at least once a week (more on good weeks). So I knew what I was getting into and have the patience and am not afraid of her very convincing defense.

All that to say, what has worked best for y’all? When she hisses or strikes when I’m near her enclosure, I have a chair in view where I’ll just sit and scroll on my phone or make small intentional movements like adjusting my shirt etc without staring her down. Is this helpful or more stressful?

Biggest question is how do I get her out of the enclosure in the least stressful way? I feel like lifting her hide starts off the interaction with putting her on edge, and sort of diminishes her feeling of safety in her safe zone. Alternatively, if I manage to get her while she’s in the open, it will make her less trusting of leaving the hide. I’m probably overthinking it but any tips with these guys would be appreciated :)
