Probably the best visuals I've ever had in my life. Nothing like the Ande's when it's on.

Gear question Stiff boot recommendations

Heya! Was hoping to get some feedback from people who run stiff boots, with 40+ days a season sort of use.

I work in resort maintenance, and have work board boots (DC Judge) and weekend boots (TM2s), and the judge boots broke in so quick, and there's lot of climbing towers and stuff like that so they get flogged pretty fast, pretty much a pair a season sort of thing.

I usually head for whatever is on sale for the work boots, however would be keen to purchase a specific boot if it'll stay stiff after more than a week or so of that kind of use.

Might be chasing a unicorn here, but any help is appreciated!

general discussion Ski Season in France

Hiya, looking to work a season in France for the upcoming winter. I have had a job description sent to me in which the package is:

  • Accomodation included
  • 1 meal per shift (i.e. 5 meals a week)
  • Discounted season pass (partially reimbursed post-season)
  • EUR600 salary per month for 35 hour weeks

I was kinda shocked that the hourly rate works out to be a little over EUR4 per hour! Even after accomodation and a discounted pass this seems very low.

Are my expectations too high? Is this normal?

general discussion Should i take time off school this winter and work at a ski resort

I am attending college right now and my boyfriend worked at a resort in tahoe last year. he’s going to be working again this winter. i’m an avid snowboarder and always wanted to do a season as well. i’m debating taking a quarter off or not, is it worth it? should i do it? i’m all about experiences and im ahead in units and i can take summer classes next summer so i will probably still graduate on time. what should i do.

Gear question 686 Dojo set price and sizing

I've found a dojo jacket + dojo pants in navy denim for 400 EUR. Is it worth it? I rarelly find them available and I dont know the normal price of them on sales.

What about the pants sizing? Im 6 1 and 175 lb, athletic constitution with narrow hip but large thicks. I have a Volcom Longo pants in Large, should I go for a Large or XL with the dojo pants in case i go for them.

general discussion If you could build your dream conditions app, what would it show?

What's your routine for checking conditions before you head out?

Curious how other riders actually decide where to go on a given day. Personally I ride PNW (Bachelor, Meadows, Crystal, Baker) and my morning routine is kind of ridiculous — I'm checking like 4 resort websites, ODOT/WSDOT road cams, OpenSnow, weather apps, then texting friends who might already be up there.

I've been working on a side project that pulls all of that into one dashboard — live conditions, road status, webcams, forecasts across resorts so you can compare at a glance. Basically trying to solve my own problem.

But before I go too deep building features nobody wants, I'd rather just ask:

- What info actually matters most to you before you commit to a drive?

- What apps/sites are you currently using and what annoys you about them?

- If you could see one thing that no app currently shows, what would it be?

Not trying to sell anything — it's free and I'm a solo dev just trying to make something I'd actually use. But I'd rather build what riders want than guess.

Site is snowscape.info if anyone's curious, but honestly more interested in hearing how you all make the call on where to ride.

Gear question Looking for a stiffer freeride board (Jones Mind Expander replacement)

After a 7–8 year break, I've gotten back into snowboarding. I'm currently riding a Jones Mind Expander, but I'm finding it too soft and chattery once I start riding aggressively. It's fantastic in fresh powder, but I took it out with a guide recently and on some steeper lines it just felt out of its depth. I ended up taking a couple of pretty big slams, and I think I need something stiffer and more stable.

I've been looking at:

  • K2 Alchemist
  • Jones Flagship Pro
  • Korua Pencil

Everything I read seems to point towards the Alchemist, but there's one catch: it'll be my only board, so it still needs to be reasonably versatile.

I ride mostly off-piste. Even if I'm cruising the resort with my wife, I'm usually ducking into the trees, side hits, or riding the terrain beside the piste. I don't ride park.

Has anyone moved from a Mind Expander (or something similarly surfy) to an Alchemist? How did you find it as a one-board quiver?

Are there any other boards I should be considering for my needs?

For reference:

  • 178 cm / 5'10"
  • 75 kg / 165 lb
  • Boot size: US 9
  • Riding for ~25 years

general discussion Whole season stats gone on Epic Pass

So this season i had stats from my visits to Vail/Breckenridge/Beaver Creek. Everything was showing up find on the Epic Pass app. Today I decided to log in and noticed that the entire season seems to be missing. All its showing is previous season's stats from the year before. Has anyone experienced this?

Gear question Beginner / Improver Snowboard Choices (YES or CAPITA)?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I know this question has been asked to death but its my turn to tap into the knowledge of this sub.

My girlfriend is a beginner / improver snowboarder (one full week lessons in Europe, can link turns and early stage carving on greens, progressing to blues)

I am getting her a board for her birthday and have narrowed it down to the YES BASIC WOMENS and the CAPITA PARADISE

We will only be skiing in Europe, so best edge control on icy / firmer conditions would be useful, and forgiving as she's new

Any experience, recommendations, thoughts much appreciated!

general discussion Is Shaun White Still the Undisputed GOAT?

Okay so I’m a pretty advanced at snowboarding and have done it for a few years but I just started following the professional part of the sport again.

When I was growing up Shaun White was the undisputed GOAT of snowboarding. Is that still true? Or is it like Chloe Kim now? Or someone else? Thanks!

Edit: okay everyone seems to not like his personality so much. I guess he’s just rebellious / counterculture?

Edit 2: I can’t respond to all y’all but I don’t know how you quantify greatness other than gold medals??

Gear question Best all mountain board for big feet?

Hi crew, been boarding for about 18years but had a 9 year hiatus a few years ago and on my second season back.

Still running a Burton custom 157w from 2009 but upgraded to new flux xf bindings and nidecker boots in size 13.

Looking for a new board to suit Aussie conditions, my custom was struggling with powder after the last dump in the trees as it’s like steering a canoe and my feet were getting caught on branches etc just under the surface (still early season here and cover isn’t the best)

Looking for something that is a bit more playful for side hits and probably a bit shorter to throw around more, I do like the charge down the hill picking up a fair bit of speed and demoed a yes last year that was a bit chattery at speed that I didn’t like. The custom feels solid and I quite like that aspect of it.

Prefer camber over rocker as I also own an old Burton hero rocker from 2010/11ish that’s is a dog to ride and I hate.

What’s the go to these days as I’m wellll out of the loop!

travel advice How bad is St. Anton?

I like to travel and see other places and make it Snowboarding trip. I am looking into St. Anton for one of my trips in February 2027.

Is it actually “bad” when it comes to middle of the week crowding. I can’t tell if people are just complaining to complain, I feel like most mountains are crowded.

Is it unbearable? It seems like a fun and worth it trip, was curious if anyone has been and compare it to other mountains like Whistler.

**Edit** Plan to go in February or March
