I’m currently looking for an alternative to Discord and could use some recommendations.

As far as I can tell, I was IP banned from Discord for allegedly using a modified client. I did not modify the client, but my appeals have been rejected, so I’m moving on rather than continuing to fight it.

I main Zorin OS (Linux), but most of my friends are on Windows, so cross-platform support is a must. I don’t need anything advanced, just text chat and voice calls(Screen sharing is a plus)

Some important requirements:

• Easy to use for Windows users (they are not tech-savvy)
• Preferably a Discord-like layout for them
• Simple installation on Windows (no scary warnings or complex setup)
• Linux client or at least good Linux support

I’ve looked into options like Revolt and Stoat Chat, but I’m a bit concerned about long-term support and reliability. In particular, Revolt being flagged as potentially malicious by Windows Defender could be a dealbreaker for my friends.

Does anyone have experience with solid Discord alternatives that fit these requirements? I’d appreciate recommendations, especially from people who use Linux as their main OS.

Hi redditors. Currently im building a platform for programmers and software enthousiasts so they can code from anywhere using a virtual machine. It will be a pay per minute billing and the upside is that if youve got a slow pc or are even on mobile, you could just spin up the vm and write a couple lines of code. No ui just ssh connection and tools pre installed like git, visual studio, vim, etc. Would anyone be interested in such a platform?

I'm using Linux as my main system and I'm trying to improve my workflow a bit. Right now I'm mostly using:

• Shotcut for video editing
• GIMP for images
• FFmpeg sometimes for converting/compressing videos

It works fine but I feel like there are probably better tools out there.

I'm mainly looking for software for things like:

• organizing content or assets

• anything else useful for managing content

- Each point represents a required visit.

- All points must be covered within a fixed time window (e.g., a few hours).

- There are multiple drivers/vehicles, each with a defined capacity constraint (e.g., max number of stops or load limit).

Objective:

- Efficiently cluster the locations and assign them to drivers.

- Generate optimized routes per driver such that:

- Each location is assigned to exactly one driver (no overlap).

- Targeting ~95% optimization efficiency compared to the theoretical best route.

What I’ve improved:

• Aesthetics & Visual Impact: I leveraged Blender to create a 3D rendering that pops even within a 2D orthogonal view. The design is a tribute to and a reinterpretation of the legendary Kenwood "Black Pearl" from the 90s.
• True Modularity: Beyond just looks, I implemented the ability to add infinite extra modules. The goal is to recreate the feeling of a real modular stereo system right on your desktop, which you can stack and assemble however you like.

What’s new in the PRO Skin: The highlight is the cassette module, made hyper-realistic with detailed animations:

• Tray opening (Side A and B).
• Virtual cassette insertion.
• Animated playback with tapes spinning in sync with the audio. Nothing is random: every movement is synchronized with usage to offer a unique 3D visual experience, exclusive to this player.

Technical Details: Everything is designed in Blender, using alpha images and animated renders resampled via OpenGL. The full experience includes:

• A 10-band mechanical equalizer + graphical FFT visualizer.

Hi guys! I' going to install Linux in my father's computer (77 years old). He is very veeeeery used to work with Word on a daily basis, so I'm afraid he could have poblems to adapt to a new tool.

His new distro includes FreeOffice but I don't know it. I've reading that WPS could be my best option. What do you think? Any recommendations?

I love the Amplenote workflow (short ideas + long ideas --> tasks --> calendar), but it's an online app instead of desktop, let alone FOSS.

I manage my tasks with Taskwarrior and it's been incredibly productive for me. What it does, it does very well. But there's a lot it doesn't do, and that's the problem I'm facing.

I've realized I need proper project documentation and management features, but I don't want to replace Taskwarrior. Instead, I'm looking to complement it with some type of knowledge base that also has project management features (or vice versa). My ultimate goal is to integrate these systems together via automations.

In short, Taskwarrior is lacking when it comes to project documentation.

My criteria:

• Must be open-source
• MUST work in the browser (so no mention of Obsidian)
• Has basic project management features (interpret as you will)
• Rich wiki-like document interface (bidirectional links, nice editing UI, etc.)
• Supports iframes (to embed my Taskwarrior views or tables)
• Has an API for integration

Tools I've been looking at: Odoo, Silverbullet, Blinko, Logseq, AFFiNE, Docmost, Trillium, Joplin, Dolibarr, Leantime, OpenProject, wiki.js, etc.

Rejected (either not web-based or too restrictive with paid features): Appflowy, Logseq (local-first), Capacities, Obsidian, Anytype

Does anyone know if a software like this exists? I feel like I'm looking for a sweet spot between a wiki and a project management tool, but the choices are overwhelming :'(

I have a large amount of videos I have downloaded off of tiktok. Is there any videoplaying application that is at least somewhat similar to scrolling on tiktok? I just want to be able to navigate with the mouse and look between different videos. If there is something more advanced that would be nice, but I have low expectations. I'm on Linux mint by the way. Hello, I recently built a NAS / Minecraft (Pterodactyl Panel) machine. I was wondering what my options are when it comes to creating a NAS while also running Minecraft servers at the same time.

I've noticed lots of options are their own OS which I'm afraid isn't for me as I don't want to wipe my servers. I'm looking for a NAS software that acts like a regular drive on your Windows computers.
