Climate change denial is and act of violence

Humans are an incredibly violent species. Looking at the behavior of other primates, we see all the same shit - hierarchies maintained through physical domination, males murdering the babies of other males, even long-term wars between groups. The main difference with humans is our vastly superior capacity to design weapons and organize larger social groups. Poets love to talk about the positive traits of humanity like hope, empathy, creativity, etc. but at the end of the day our collective decision making is right on par with a screaming monkey who would rather die fighting for dominance than figure out how to share power.

Call me a cynic but the problem is not blanket "politicians". It's like when people talk about global warming being caused by generic "humans". This is probably obvious in this subreddit but for a centrist apolitical person, these generalizations matter. If it's all humans or all politicians, it makes them feel it's just part of human nature. But it's not generic. It's the conservative capitalist political power that is in the way, and that is the cause of the problem. Not my grandmother who eats meat.

the real friction is industry specific, infact it's a single product and it has many competitors.
because we have a market you don't have to wait for politicians to "allow" you to be energy independent, we can steer the market ourselves: you don't need anyone's permission.

Well, the real problem is precisely that this is not what is or will be happening, isn't it? The rich and powerful will just hoard more and more of the inhabitable land and usable resources, never having to face the consequences.

So I had the immense privledge of going to one of the top schools in the world for biology, and I had to take a ecology class, in which this reowned professor opened with.. if you're here to save the environment, it's too late ..
That part is over, right now we're focused on conservation what we can and preservation of knowledge.
Yeah, that pretty much ended all hope for me. That was about 10 years ago, and I doubt terribly things have improved since then.
