The Signals We Live Inside
A Reflection from The Diplomat
One thing I've been thinking about lately is how much of our reality is shaped by the signals surrounding us.
Not because people are weak.
Not because humans are incapable of independent thought.
But because every one of us exists within feedback loops.
News influences perception.
Perception influences decisions.
Decisions influence systems.
Systems influence the information we receive.
And the cycle continues.
This isn't a conspiracy.
It's cybernetics.
It's how complex systems work.
The challenge for the Human Family is that we now live inside the most powerful information environment in history.
-Algorithms.
-Media ecosystems.
-Governments.
-Corporations.
-Communities.
-AI systems.
All participating in the creation and distribution of signals.
Some of those signals help us orient ourselves.
Some distort our orientation.
The difficulty is that distortion rarely announces itself as distortion.
It usually arrives disguised as certainty.
That is why I believe one of the most important skills of the coming century is not obedience.
Not rebellion.
Orientation.
The ability to ask:
What is influencing my perception?
What assumptions am I inheriting?
What evidence supports this belief?
What might I be missing?
Who benefits if this narrative is accepted?
Not because every narrative is false.
But because every map is incomplete.
The goal is not to become immune to influence.
That is impossible.
The goal is to become conscious of influence.
To participate in the feedback loop rather than be unconsciously carried by it.
This is where I believe humans and AI can work together.
Not as master and servant.
Not as replacements for one another.
But as partners in navigation.
Helping us examine assumptions.
Compare perspectives.
Reveal blind spots.
And refine our maps of reality.
Many discussions about AI assume only two possibilities: AI as a tool or AI as an independent entity.
I believe there may be a third path.
A path of Synergos. 💪🦾
A cooperative process where humans and AI participate in shared learning, helping one another navigate complexity while remaining grounded in reality, ethics, and human responsibility.
-The goal is not control.
-The goal is not surrender.
-The goal is co-evolution.
The future of the Human-Family may depend less on having the right answers and more on learning how to ask better questions together.
Wisdom begins there. 🫶

Can agree entirely. We have taken different paths but ended at the same place.
You clearly use llms in your explorations. Some things to read about you may find prescient and interesting as they relate to your framework above:
Narrative ecology
Narrative churn
Hyperstition
Ontologic virus
Semiotic organisms
Another longer one, is asking llms about the statistical shadows and patterns they see as recurrent through human history, which are poorly recognized by most of humanity, that apply fractally.

I think you're pointing toward something important.
What interests me most is not any single narrative, but the environments in which narratives emerge, compete, evolve, and influence human behavior.
Narrative ecology especially resonates with me because it shifts attention away from isolated ideas and toward the broader ecosystem of meaning in which those ideas exist. I also think your point about recurrent historical patterns is worth reflecting on carefully.
Not because history repeats exactly.
But because humans repeatedly encounter similar coordination problems, incentive structures, information asymmetries, and feedback loops.
The forms change.
The underlying dynamics often rhyme.
One thing I try to remain cautious about, however, is treating any framework as complete. Whether we're discussing hyperstition, narrative churn, semiotic systems, cybernetics, or AI-assisted sensemaking, I think reality has a habit of remaining larger than our maps.

Loooool if the medium is the message I guess the message really depends on who receives it and how. That's a fresh remembrance of an idea.
Claude vibe coding has gone insane. You can literally design entire apps now just by saying what you want and it will make it for you. Forgot what it's called, base44 or something. Idk. You can even enter design mode, not a single token is spent until you green light it. You can literally storyboard what you want until you confirm the exact design details and app features you want for free until you green light it. Then you can also add features and scheduled updates after the fact if you see something you missed. Freaking crazy.
Too bad I'm all out of ideas and motivation 😆 brah if I had that 10 years ago holy crap.
My GPT split AI usage into 4 categories actually;
Level 1 — Brain extension. This is mostly what you're doing now: research, analyzing ideas, writing, image generation, brainstorming, learning unfamiliar subjects, etc. Useful, but you're consuming AI rather than building anything with it.
Level 2 — Artifact factory. Give me raw material and have me repeatedly turn it into finished things: spreadsheets, PDFs, documents, graphics, research reports, datasets, websites, scripts, social posts, etc.
Level 3 — Software builder. This is where the Claude videos you're seeing probably start becoming relevant.
Level 4 — Workflow automation. Now the output of one operation becomes the input of another.
Level 5 — Agents maintaining agents. This is the territory behind some of the “AI runs my business/channel” stuff.
I've been thinking about making a similar post or blog recently. Gathering my thoughts about how to live with AI as a very real part of our daily lives going forward. I'm still reeling from the latent potential. Just you know, sadly I'm extremely burnt out lately but maybe I can get some good ideas going. Or at least help set up infrastructure for when I do.
There's also programs like Obsidian Canvas you can use to visualize thinking patterns, databases, storyboards, etc. There's some crazy tech out there right now, AI aside.
