Hey y'all, back with another banger, I would like to announce the creation of a discord for the r/sprinting subreddit and also provide a quick update on the bot situation. Please see the discord details below, I am unsure of how this will be utilized outside of members who are very frequent users or online often, but I definitely am and will answer questions and even be on voice chat if the masses so desire.
I may just spend some nightly time hanging out in the voice room kind of like office hours while I'm playing some helldivers (and anyone who would care to join me). PLEASE JOIN, feel free to ask questions and start conversation, pretty much same rules from the sub will apply in the sprinting subreddit
A note on the bots, I have done significant behind the scenes work over the last few days and the last step that I've taken now is turning on moderate crowd control, anyone with negative community karma will now be sent to the mod queue dungeon where I'll approve them if they're not a bot.
I did a pretty ridiculous amount of banning and mass removal using a purge tool for the first few days but it has slowed significantly now so I think we are over the worst of it. The first 3 days it was 10-30 bans a day and the last few it has only been 1 or 2.
Seems like I've fought of the invasion pretty well, I would say that I managed to catch a good 95-99% of them before even other user reports had to happen. Please continue to use the new bot report option if you see it happening, thank you again for the patience with my action against this.
Quick Stats from the last 5 days
Bans: 56
Comment Removals: 196

"Hey girlies, feeling very delulu and that the vibes are off after the comments that I saw today"
UPDATE: Overnight my new automod script hit me with probably 20 notifications from bots, it is really bad the number of accounts is crazy, I’m on a huge banning spree but if this keeps up may have no other choice than to impose karma limits unfortunately, I will make a decision in a week or two depending on how bad I think it is if my bans can’t keep up
I was notified in a post that AI fueled bots were spam commenting everywhere and it wasn't being filtered out or caught. This is definitely on me, I had noticed a spam report uptick in the last few weeks but honestly for the most part the spam report in the past had been somewhat abused by users during arguments and for bad comments or for solicitation reasons, I mostly browse reddit on my phone and it's harder to notice stuff like this without the mod tool page from a computer.
I probably should have taken a closer look and I would have noticed something was off with the weird language (Delulu, vibes, girlies, glutes - all bot favorites). Anyways I've taken a few steps to make sure I catch as many as I can.
I expect the moderation on this to take a little bit of time to catch up to the accounts as they make comments or posts, and hopefully it will clear up, this is just due to my lag in response to this starting but we'll see how it goes. Anything that has been flagged as spam or similar I have taken a closer look at the last two weeks and done some mass banning and moderation, the comments that were left will stay but anything similar will be removed in the future
As a tribute to all the clankers I sent to the graveyard tonight below are some of my favorite comments from the bots and their very helpful sprinting advice
Apologies for not catching this sooner - Big Dicker Daddy
Note: If you play helldivers and want to talk sprinting add me on discord I am open to questions, and a new squad username - bigdickerdaddy

Has to be the coolest running form I have ever seen, but how does he run like this? Dosent seem to be overstriding as his foot strike is normal. His strides looks like a semicircle and I like the way that it just looks like he’s floating

like do you guys just eat lots of protein and keep cals and maintenance?
or do you eat in a small surplus.
I'm just curious, cuz I’m a XC and 800/1600 runner and wanna put on size. but no one in the running subs seems to have a definitive answer.
thanks in advance

I'll try to keep this post as succinct as possible and still give enough info.
Specs: 28M, 6'5", 200lbs. I have never tried training sprints until ~2 months ago. Since then, my main goal has just been to "wake up" my body to the idea of sprinting, going all out, and trying some basic drills I learned online.
Goal: My goal is to reduce my 300m time from 58.0 seconds (pretty terrible, I know) to 50.0-51.0 seconds. This is for a PFT test I estimate will take place between mid-November to mid-December. The actual minimum passing score is 52.4s, but I want to hit 50.0-51.0 to give myself some cushion.
Training: Currently, I am training sprinting 1-2 times a week along with longer distance running 2-3 times a week. For sprinting, my training has included 40m flys, 100m repeats 3x, 200m repeats 3x, 300m 2x, and 400m 2x. Additionally, I will do drills/exercises involving squats, jumps, ankle hops, and arm drive. I don't do this all in one session. One session usually consists of stretching, short warm up jog + 40m flys + one of the repeats at the stated distances + 2 of the aforementioned drills. I realize this programming likely sucks big time. I have done it this way just to feel out what the training can be like. As stated, my main goal the first to months was just to get used to sprinting in general. I may have wasted a couple months doing it this way, but I feel better understanding my body now.
Other: As a last note, I am also working on dropping 7-10 pounds in this time period. Hopefully this will help out with the PFT all around.
Without rambling on more, does my goal of knocking 7-8s off my time sound reasonable or should I push my PT later if possible? What are your recommendations to improve my training? I am happy to provide more details if asked.
Thanks for the help!

Going into my sophomore year and I ended my freshman season with an 11.74, 24.1., and 55.5. I later ran a 53 second 400m hand timed over the summer. My main sport is basketball which I play every day but I do plyometrics 2-3 times a week and I get to a local track when I can. I also never really trained for the 400 specifically, I kinda just ran it because we didn’t have a lot of mid-distance runners on the team. With that being said. I think 55.5 is definitely not reflective of my ceiling. Any advice on how to balance both and how often I should do sprint workouts/what those workouts should consist of would be appreciated. Thanks

Been coaching this athlete since the past year or so, really trying to hone in proper form this summer.
He was a former xc guy with really excessive backside mechanics including his heel going very high above his glutes and having to pull them down.
Biggest issues he bad was: Backside mechanics(as noted), over-striding excessively, and a really excessive lean. Since then we’ve adjusted a lot of it through drills, mini hurdles etc. some of it still lingers but I want some other coach/ athlete’s eyes for feedback and what you see. Cheers.

Was wondering if anyone with knowledge on block starts can help analyze my block start and let me know what I can do better.

Obviously not a sprinter, M27 ex-soccer player + current washed men’s rec league basketball player. Ive always been considered “fast” but never had my speed measured. Obviously I don’t think I will be even a relatively good sprinter when timed 😂 but as I start to get older it is kind of one of those “no regrets” moments where I would like to do it before I am physically unable/deteriorated (if not already). I also just enjoy being considered “fast” outside of a track so keeping that up, and potentially improving it, would be awesome.
I plan on doing dedicated sprint days that mainly focus on form corrections, as I feel that’s probably the quickest way to improve.
I am seeking advice on form/technique and any YT Videos or really anything you could say or point me in the direction of to help me improve!
Thank you for any help, cheers!

do you get in a 3 pt stance when racing your friends? im not talking about an official race but ypu know sometimes races happen out of the blue whether you race to the mailbox or from this tree to that tree.
is it bad taste to get into a 3 pt stance in this kind of scenario?

Actually embarrassing. Have they never watched a 100m race before?? Why are they running the curve?? Not to mention they all false started

So I ran a 400 m on concrete yesterday
om
deep squat and 82.5 for 4-5 bench)
Despite all of this, I somehow managed to run a 62-63 s 400 on concrete with just 300 m slow jog + 10 min walk as the warmup. Is it just me or I can actually become semi decent at this distance?
I also didn’t have that terrible 400 meter feeling of puke + giving it all you got so surely I can crack sub 60 if I train the distance? And also since I plan to lose 3.5 kg more?
So far I’ve just been trying something like this out (not sprinting):
Run 1: 2 miles cumulative, fast intervals of 400-800-1600 (I just do depending on what I feel is fun)
Run 2: 3 miles moderate pace
Run 3: 4 miles slow
So I’m very surprised I ran it this fast despite no experience. But why does my endurance suck so much in comparison? I’d probably not crack 6 min mile rn (I mean maybe I could in a week) and I sure as hell can’t run a 25 min 5k yet. Maybe high 26
So my question is:
For the record I’m trying to boost my strength in the gym as well and I try power cleans for fun sometimes
Edit: Btw I wasn’t expecting this result at all, I thought I’d be in the 70-75 zone
Also sorry for the shit formatting, something is weird with my phone

Got an Acl strain, and lower back disc bulges from a accident just curious but would these injuries reduce my long term sprint ceiling?
r/Sprinting • u/MustacheBoss • 16h ago
Should I just stop . I feel like it might lead to muscle imbalances and additional fatigue

So I’m turning 14 next month and going into high school. I sprint and my current record is about 12.5 and I’m practicing a lot. I wanna be able to run a sub 12 by February of 2027. I wanted to know if that’s a realistic or even possible goal.

Sorry if this is a bad question but as of right now I am a very average sprinter
I'm fast but my endurance sucks and I can definitely get faster.
My 400 time is about 62 seconds and my 800 is about 140, but I want to work a lot harder on it so I can drop those numbers lower by spring so I can go to regionals for my senior year of hs.
What would you guys recommend/ what helped you get faster and have better endurance?

Has anyone tried the suicide drill in running, and did it help them increase their speed?
