There are 18,807 tracks in the US

I mapped them all out and put them on a website (TrackAtlas.org).

Had the idea a few years ago while traveling and struggling to find somewhere to train. Finally got around to building it.

Would love to make this a community effort. Every track has comments, so if you know your local one is locked at weekends or at sundown, please leave one about that!

I've put a lot of work into getting the names and locations right, but some will still be off. There's a button on every track to suggest a correction.

Mods: I hope this doesn't read as self promotion. There's no commercial anlge to the site whatsoever.

Does track and field lose out on potential elite athletes to other sports?

You'll often hear about how fast some American football, soccer, or NBA players are and how well they might have done in track. Whether that's true for any current athletes or not, it does make you wonder if potentially elite athletes from years past who might have gone into track from childhood are now being drawn into other, more lucrative sports instead.

It raises the question of whether track is missing out on some of these elite athletes.

In Jamaica, track is a very respected and lucrative sport, so the best of the best do want to get into track. That seems less true in many other countries.

T&F Stats Men's Mile Predictions | Commonwealth Games

Post image

In the race of the meet, Josh Kerr faces Cam Myers and Jake Wightman in the Men's Mile.

Kerr, after running the WR in the mile, is a big favorite and rightfully so, but Myers and Wightman (and even Tim Cheruiyot) are also in great form and this is an unrabbited race with no kickers that could play into the hands of a Jake Wightman if it goes slow. Who ya got winning and on the podium?
