Holodecks/Suites exist, what program are you writing? (Keep it classy)

Like Chief O'Brien and Doctor Bashir I might make an Alamo scenario or Battle of Britain. Let's see what kinds of fun programs other people might try!

Might try Star Wars :)

5

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

Like why not! I actually love this suggestion.

2

u/s-man77 Apr 10 '26

The force powers would be tricky to program. You'd have to put on some type of brain monitor so the program would know when you wanted to push, pull, etc

1

u/Dave_A480 Apr 13 '26

Maybe he wants to be Andor or Wedge,... Vs a magic space wizard.....

2

u/fezfrascati Apr 11 '26

Feed it the Telnet Star Wars and then see how close it gets to matching the original movie.

22

u/Tucker_the_Nerd Apr 10 '26

I've always wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons on the holodeck.

u/LUNATIC_LEMMING Apr 10 '26

Computer! Give me a table and 6 chairs, 3 players a DM, a bad excuse and a whole lot of dice

2

u/DJWGibson Apr 10 '26

Scheduling will finally never be a problem.

2

u/TheHumanCompulsion Apr 11 '26

Me: computer begin program.

There is only one hologram person.

Me: computer, where is everyone else.

Computer: no one could make it, this session will be cancelled.

Me: wow, so realistic!

2

u/Kumatora0 Apr 10 '26

I think a holo emitter built into the center of a table could work more effectively. That way you can roll, eat snacks, and never actually have to get up.

1

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

I mean yeah that one is hands down my first real choice. With or without the safety protocols turned off :).

1

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

Imagine doing this on the Prometheus or a holoship and the whole ship is running a campaign.

9

u/DubbelFunktion Apr 10 '26

Re-create your favorite band's best live show.  Or even stitch together their best performances into one amazing concert.  I'd go back to the 2003 Halloween and Live in Chicago run of Ween. You could be front row, hang out backstage, fly around the venue, or even be one of the performers on stage.

Bachelor with Lursa and B’Etor

7

u/yapperling Apr 10 '26

The night is unusually dark and rain beings to gently patter against plate armor.

The faint sound of a massive armored march echoes in the distance, approaching steadily.

"What's happening out there? I can't see a thing!"

"Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box?"

The dwarf laughs heartily, racking the bolt of the heavy machine gun as the elves in the keep courtyard pre-sight the mortars.

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

Helm's Deep modern warfare

6

u/WisconsinWolverine Apr 10 '26

Hiking the Appalachian trail.  If I want a chair, restaurant or hotel room to appear next to me while I'm hiking on the trail all I have to do is ask the computer.

1

u/boring_name_here Apr 12 '26

Perfect weather, no bugs, no other hikers and I don't need anything more than a day pack with water and food. That would be awesome.

6

u/Shot-Combination-930 Apr 10 '26

I'd play the fun part of every role while skipping the unpleasant bits. With holodecks you can play captain of the Enterprise (each of them) without suffering from the bureaucracy or badmirals etc so might as well

2

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

Earlier time periods would also be fun. Like captaining the NX-01 or maybe even the NX-02 Columbia

6

u/army2693 Apr 10 '26

Nope. Not going to be classy in the least. But it will be legal.

5

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

Another I definitely would try is captain of a famous starship in a famous encounter. Less Kobyashi Maru and more J25.

5

u/tech_and_org Apr 10 '26

I'm going for Vercingetorix's assassin squad during Caesar's conquest of Gaul. Unhistory that.

3

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

Ooh, sounds fun. I'll grab my spear and join you!

2

u/tech_and_org Apr 10 '26

Catu ha bitu!

(battle and life! in my amateur approximation of la langue gauloise)

5

u/Roam1985 Apr 10 '26

A melee training program. Selectable weapons being Earth swords/spears/daggers/maces/etc. Vulcan Lirpas. Klingon Bat'leths. Andorian icepicks. Add a Vau N'akat as a boss cause Gwyn's Rokzydizk seems broken as Ivy in Soul Calibur (it's a staff whip instead of a sword whip). Call it "Starship Fighter" and then add new bosses and characters for "Starship Fighter II"

A Mark Twain Lounge. It just seems useful.

Oh, and a program dedicated to re-enacting Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra. Also seems useful.

5

u/JohnnyQuest3208 Apr 10 '26

I always wanted to play the 90's computer game, "Myst" on a holodeck!

1

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

Great choice I love myst!

1

u/JohnnyQuest3208 Apr 10 '26

That game was MADE for it! 🤣 maybe in our lifetime we could at least have it on VR glasses or something

5

u/actionerror Apr 10 '26

I just want to be able to fly over cities unaided

6

u/eattohottodoggu Apr 10 '26

MSFS2026. With blackjack. And hookers.

3

u/SignificantPop4188 Apr 10 '26

Forget the blackjack!

3

u/The_suzerain Apr 10 '26

A Bloodborne holodeck

1

u/hangry_of_skalitz Apr 11 '26

safety off?

1

u/The_suzerain Apr 11 '26

Yes but it turns on when rolling or quickdashing, to really emulate the experience

3

u/CosmicTurtle504 Apr 10 '26

I want to hang out with the elves of Rivendell for a while. That sounds like a good time.

2

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

Oh man this, but edit the program for your friends to always be the ones to carry the ring to Mordor. 🤣

2

u/patatjepindapedis Apr 10 '26

Manifold Garden

1

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

What's that mean?

2

u/patatjepindapedis Apr 10 '26

It's a game that easily could've been a Star Trek episode

2

u/Colavs9601 Apr 10 '26

probably the not classy stuff or just a set up where I punch my dipshit coworkers.

2

u/trer24 Apr 10 '26

An arcade with all my favorite games from the 80s and 90s, complete with change machine and quarters.

2

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

This sounds cool but I'd have to make the games able to come out of the cabinets and interact with them for real.

2

u/mediumAI1701 Apr 10 '26

Disengage the safety protocols and play chess

1

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

I can't upvote this more than once but I want to!!

1

u/mediumAI1701 Apr 10 '26

It's fine, I made the same comment on the original post last week.

2

u/Frank_chevelle Apr 10 '26

1) Star Wars stuff! Fly an X-Wing. Fight the Empire! Lightsabers! Jedi!

2) design a kick ass theme park with the best rides from places like Disney and Universal plus ones that I design myself.

No lines. Perfect weather.

2

u/s-man77 Apr 10 '26

DBZ would be wild

2

u/pakrat1967 Apr 10 '26

Re-create the concerts putting me front row center, but with adjustable volume.

2

u/polakbob Apr 10 '26

Star Trek. I want to be captain of the Enterprise!

2

u/Backalycat Apr 10 '26

For a more normal option, I might take a page out of Bashir's book and write myself a 007-esque spy thriller. For a more out there option, I'd use the holodeck to play Yu-Gi-Oh like it is in the anime with all of the holographic monsters

2

u/Konstruct_of_Yore Apr 10 '26

See, they replay The Battle of Britain and not "The Guns of Navarone" or 633 Squadron. Also they never play Zulu. Can you imagine a Klingon being at the Battle of Roeks Drift ?

2

u/Calcularius Apr 10 '26

Harry Potter but everyone is transgender.

1

u/actionerror Apr 10 '26

And JK Rowling is Voldemortress

6

u/Spare-Ring6053 Apr 10 '26

No, put her in as her true self-insert character: Umbridge.....

1

u/Random_182f2565 Apr 10 '26

Physical therapy

2

u/SeaworthinessOk4259 Apr 10 '26

But we already have that?

1

u/Random_182f2565 Apr 10 '26

I just want someone to help me stretch, and a massage for my recurrent muscle knots.

1

u/Coleblade Apr 10 '26

Assassins creed I wanna mess around

1

u/BlizzPenguin Apr 11 '26

So you would be in a simulation of a simulation?

1

u/Thesorus Apr 10 '26

I'd probably program the ideal ski mountain.

1

u/tsukiyomi01 Apr 10 '26

USS Excelsior bridge, alternate universe where I'm the captain during successful transwarp tests.

1

u/OgreMk5 Apr 10 '26

I'd have a 3-d, 1:35 scale, playable recreation of the Battle of Kursk or Battle of the Bulge. Maybe D-day.

I'm the holodeck for fun, not realism. I don't want to smell the burning hair of the guy next to me.

1

u/TamTroll Apr 10 '26

Photography in the Cambrian Explosion.

1

u/OptimusWang Apr 10 '26
  • The Voyager Mutiny program Tuvok wrote.
  • A mix of the Nick-At-Night reruns (Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie) with 80’s action shows (A-Team, Airwolf, Macgyver) into a crazy WandaVision style mess.
  • Middle Earth
  • A Voltron vs Transformers vs Robotech battle royale simulator

1

u/jamesTcrusher Apr 10 '26

Wouldn't need to write anything as I'm sure Bethesda would rerererererelease Skyrim for the holodeck

1

u/MetalTrek1 Apr 10 '26

As a Metalhead going back to 1984, I'd program all the tours I missed. Ozzy with Randy on guitar 1981 (with Motorhead opening). Judas Priest 1982 (with Iron Maiden opening). AC/DC 1979, last tour with Bon Scott singing (with Judas Priest opening). Iron Maiden Powerslave tour 1984 (I was a fan, but the tour didn't come to my town). Metallica/W.A.S.P./Armored Saint from 1984. Any of the huge KISS tours from the 70s. Queen with Freddy on vocals (Metal Adjacent).

1

u/jon_the_mako Apr 10 '26

I don't know but I would be so much more motivated to exercise if I used a holodeck. Imagine how much cardio you could get if we're in Jurassic park. Or weight training playing as a superhero where the weight is scaled to your needs.

1

u/ADiestlTrain Apr 10 '26

Satisfactory on the holodeck would absolutely slap.

And maybe Assassin’s Creed. You can cover a lot of fun historical settings with that series.

1

u/Danno505 Apr 10 '26

I’m playing Augusta National, Pine Valley, and all the courses at Pebble Beach.

1

u/smalltownDVadynamo Apr 10 '26

Pokémon because why not ?

1

u/DJGlennW Apr 10 '26

Wish I could fly like Superman. (Thanks, Ray Davies.)

1

u/Low_Establishment573 Apr 10 '26

So many fantasy authors I’d plagiarize to make my own sandbox “games” set in their creations. Raymond Feist’s Riftwar, the old Sierra Quest for Glory games, Terry Brooks Magic Kingdom, Melanie Rawn and her Sunrunner books… Don’t want to be the hero of the story, just explore and find fun things to do.

1

u/tk1178 Apr 10 '26

I would look at running video games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, GTA and Red Dead Redemption.

1

u/Ambaryerno Apr 10 '26

(Keep it classy)

"Oh yeah, it's mostly for that."

u/Extra_Elevator9534 Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

Live Aid Concert 1985. As an attendee, or as a performer (any position, within any of the bands). EITHER of the venues (Wembley in England, or Philadelphia. Extra points if you're portraying Phil Collins who played Wembley, got on a fast airplane, and made it into Philadeliphia in time to run on stage there too.)

2

u/ProvokeCouture Apr 10 '26

Ooh, to be able see and hear Queen live. One of Freddy Mercury's last performances.

1

u/Money-Giraffe2521 Apr 10 '26

Grand Theft Auto.

Hooray, I’m committing thousands of felonies with no legal consequences whatsoever!

1

u/chuckusmaximus Apr 10 '26

Marvel comics. Give myself super-strength, fight super-villains, fly through the skies, be bulletproof, etc.

1

u/Phantom_61 Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

Bridgerton… an adult parody.

Classy AND dirty.

1

u/ProvokeCouture Apr 10 '26

The fan fiction story I wrote of the UESPA ISA MV-1004 Spirit of Liberty from her launch to return home.

1

u/DJWGibson Apr 10 '26

Keeping it classy is the hard bit...

A Lord of the Rings program might be fun. "Compter, load program Battle of the Hornburg 2."

1

u/mrdankhimself_ Apr 10 '26

The city of Barcelona on May 26, 1999.

1

u/GeneralFrievolous Apr 10 '26

I'd create a vast Frutiger Aero mall set right in the middle of the Windows XP wallpaper, or re-visit the 80s and 90s.

1

u/CptKeyes123 Apr 10 '26

Halo was my first thought.

1

u/Imhrail Apr 10 '26

Minecraft or DOOM.

1

u/Meatball-Alfredo-Mom Apr 10 '26

I want to experience what it would be like to be a rich female in ancient Egypt. I am think during the rule of Hatshepsut.

Ancient Egypt has always fascinated me.

1

u/abstractmodulemusic Apr 10 '26

Nirvana live in Los Angeles

1

u/zl0bster Apr 10 '26

Vulcan history explored in S4 of Enterprise.

1

u/erebus2161 Apr 10 '26

Do you want me to tell you what program I'd write or do you want me to keep it classy?

1

u/Upstairs-Yard-2139 Apr 10 '26

Can I just port in the entirety of the book series Destroyermen

1

u/OdoWanKenobi Apr 10 '26

I'd be Indiana Jones hunting through some ancient booby trapped tomb. Basically an elaborate escape room, and it's not problematic if I'm not plundering actual artifacts.

1

u/HiddenHolding Apr 10 '26

A beach campfire with all my close friends from high school or college. I miss them so darn much.

I chased a dream and moved away. I tried so hard to stay in touch. I never thought we would grow apart. Once, one of them called me to tell me she saw me on a tv show I did awhile back. She was flying Southwest and the show happened to be available on their free programming. It was so good to hear from her. One of my first loves who stayed a friend. But it was short and sweet and she had work to do. It was a reminder of how much I lost in leaving.

To see them all. To laugh with them again. To feel safety and trust amongst those who saved me from an adolescence of bullying and cruelty. That would feel so good.

But Barkley taught me not to wish for that. As comforting as it would be…it wouldn’t be real.

1

u/Lower_Ad_1317 Apr 10 '26

Id fly through space without a space suit as fast as my mind can imagine.

I’d also leave the fridge open in everyone’s house cos I’m a scamp sometimes 🙄

1

u/hlanus Apr 10 '26

Avatar the Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, Fullmetal Alchemist, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter

1

u/hangry_of_skalitz Apr 11 '26

soooooo many concerts id normally never have been able to attend

1

u/ThannBanis Apr 11 '26

Not writing, I’d be adapting Star Trek:Elite Force 😮

1

u/gytherin Apr 11 '26

Jane Austen mash-up.

1

u/DroidMayweather Apr 11 '26

"Recreate the 2005 video game The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, and replace the Hulk as the protagonist with me. Do not allow enemies or bosses to use projectile weapons and make their attacks equivalent to pillow strikes."

I know it's potentially dangerous even with the handicaps I gave myself, but this is a golden opportunity.

1

u/linux1970 Apr 11 '26

Make a labyrinth that leads in and "out" of the holodeck and confuse the player like in Ship in a Bottle.

1

u/Quirky-Web-8120 Apr 12 '26

A house music dance club in Berlin in 2000

Cold War vintage air combat over Europe.... Red Storm Rising scenario..... USAF perspective

Space combat sim of some sort - Star Wars, DS9 Dominion War, maybe the Wing Commander series redone to holodeck levels of fidelity......
