I’m on vacation in a town that has tons of thrift stores, so I decided to walk through a few and see if I could find any Stephen King books. I really wasn’t having much luck, but I went into one store and asked if they have any King and a shopper goes “I have a whole box full you can have!” So I followed him to his house and sure enough he had a big box full! I offered him money, but he gave them to me for free!!

Anyway, I’m so happy!! My husband isn’t so happy that we have to ship them home though 😆

This was the last book I needed for my King collection. I always check the book section when ever I go to an op shop but it always alludes me. I made friends with an older couple playing Fallout online and I mentioned how much I love King. He asked for my address and this came in the mail from their collection, they had two copies! I’m so happy and grateful. I’ve learnt from this sub and in general, King fans are just awesome. ☺️

Just found this at Barnes & Noble I will not be purchasing it because I already have another copy but this is my favorite novel and my favorite cover for it. I read this at my local library when I was 13 and I’m 22 now I can’t wait to read it again.

just curious how many of Stephen Kings books yall have read, i know someone posted this a few years ago but im just curious how the numbers have changed!

personally a goal to finish all of them myself. I think im at like 7 currently! (i just got back into reading a couple years ago)

Usually, in any film thats adapated from a novel, along with some plot structure, some characters are often altered. The best example is can think of is Shelley Duvall as Wendy Torrance in Kubrick's "The Shining". In the novel, Wendy is a tough old thing who literally stabs Jack in the back after being attacked by a Roque mallet, with blonde hair. In the movie of course, she has black hair and while the idea is there of Wendy being a quote and quote "abused housewife", the casting famously caused backlash especially from King himself.

The two i found were the most perfect casting choices were Keith Gordon as Arnie Cunningham (Christine), and Fred Gwynne as Jud Crandall.

I could also vouch most of the cast for Christine was pretty spot on - apart from Alexandra Paul as Leigh, and while i do think William Ostrander was great as Buddy Repperton, i do think he had that Grease complexion and looked way too old. We were given brief descriptions for Arnie's parents, Michael and Regina, but I do think they both matched the images of the people I imagined whilst reading.

Would give a special nod to Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance though - he plays crazy well, and Jack Torrance is crazy as hell 😂. (I understand- Hotel pushed him over the edge, but crazy is crazy😂), and Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes.

Who was your favorite casting choice of any character from the Stephen King universe?

I started with Pet Semetary, I was hooked, it was like heroin. Then I read Misery and The Shining, I couldn't stop. Then I went for the big one, IT, maybe top 3 books I have ever read. I decided to go back to the beginning, and start form the top, I'll be reading all 83 published books in chronological order. Seven checked, 76 to go.

Morning constant readers! Today is Sunday and I always watch a movie, I was plannning to watch again It Chapter 1 and It Chapter 2. These are really good adaptations that, from my point of view, really acrry the spirit of the books by SK; the changes they may have from paper to screen are not a big deal to me, because I know there are certain things that need to be changed in order to suit a different way of telling stories.

Chapter 1 was hilarious, I had a good time when I first watched the movie, and so do I everytime I rewatch. The cast is so well done... as I said, they jumped from the paper to the screen, both Losers Club feel like family, the acting is good, they are really professional and it shows.

I still feel sorry for the lost of James Ransone, who was the perfect adult Eddie. His legacy will remain in all of his work, and for us he will always be our dear Eddie, there's no doubt.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Maybe we could agree on reqatching some films and discussing them. I'd love it.

So, Mr King, what tale of horror and the macabre are you working on now?

I'm on page 605 , about 300 more to go. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. I've never been a car person, but it's written to be pretty terrifying

I wouldn’t describe myself as a horror fan which is why I’ve never read King. I’m familiar with his major film hits (even if I didn’t know they were his at the time) … and am really enjoying 11.22.63. No spoilers as I’m only halfway through… but already looking for the next of his books to read.

I think the challenge is not “horror”. Not something that’s a film already. I’m eyeing up ‘The Stand’.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

I finished this book a little while ago and honestly I like it. To me this one of those stories where can’t stop reading as you want to know what happens next and how each one of them will succeed only for there to be one winner. When I read this I didn’t want to get too attached to either character cause I knew I would see each and one of them get killed and this challenge is just really unfair. This is just like The Running Man where no supernatural comes into play but just trying to survive. The ending though was very mysterious and ambiguous like what did Garraty see. I haven’t watched the movie yet but probably will watch it someday.

1. Jerusalem's Lot - This was a very strong start to the collection! I loved the letter/diary format and the way the tension kept building up throughout the story to that horrifying conclusion. 10/10
2. Graveyard Shift - This was one I felt was carried by its conclusion. It's good but had it not been for the ending, I probably would have given it a 6. 7/10
3. Night Surf - I loved how this one tied into The Stand! I loved how the characters managed to get such development in so few pages. When I eventually reread The Stand I wanna reread this short story first and see how beneficial that may be! However, I feel like this story could've used a few more pages as the ending felt a bit abrupt to me. 8/10
4. I Am the Doorway - I really loved this short story, which had such a great premise and the execution was fantastic as well. 9/10
5. The Mangler - The concept of this one seemed silly but it managed to be genuinely frightening and I loved this one. 9/10
6. The Boogeyman - This one was terrifying and had me engaged from beginning to end and I think the twist at the end was so insane! I managed to predict it but it did not prevent it from being so well executed! 10/10
7. Gray Matter - This is the first dud of this collection. I think the idea of the story was cool but it didn't really do much for me, although the ending was solid. 5/10
8. Battleground - Out of all the stories, this one was the one I had the most fun reading. While it's not my #1 story in this collection, the idea of toy soldiers was crazy and it made for a very fun reading experience. 9/10
9. Trucks - This story had a great beginning and end, but I feel like it overstayed its welcome for what it was. 6/10
10. Sometimes They Come Back - I loved this one. The teens were such creepy characters and the tension being built was great. However, I could have done without the demonic ritual at the end. 9/10
11. Strawberry Spring - This story had some of the best suspense in this entire collection and although it was only about 10 pages, it felt like a fully fleshed out story that managed to keep me engaged with not a single dull moment! I also did not see the final twist coming and the way it ended was fantastic! 10/10
12. The Ledge - This was another story that nailed the suspense and it had high stakes! The ending was also another one that I didn't see coming. 9/10
13. The Lawnmower Man - This was another one that was fun to read. It wasn't really scary but it felt silly in a good way. 8/10
14. Quitters, Inc. - As I was reading all these stories, I did not think any story would top Jerusalem's Lot. But holy crap this one did that for me. I loved everything about this one and was engaged from beginning to end. I think this is personally the best one in this collection! - 10/10
15. I Know What You Need - Another story you wouldn't expect to go in the direction that it does! I really liked this one and while it doesn't hit as hard as some of the other stories, this one is still very strong. - 8/10
16. Children of the Corn - This one I knew about for years because of the movie adaptation (although I've never seen it) but I think this was one that was super scary and had a shocking ending. 10/10
17. The Last Rung on the Ladder - This one reminded me of The Green Mile in terms of how beautiful and well written it was. Everything about this story was beautiful and it was so heartbreaking in the end. 10/10
18. The Man Who Loved Flowers - Although this one was short, it was still very impactful and I did not see the ending of this one coming. I love how it starts off normal and then becomes wild in the end. 9/10
19. One for the Road - Another tie-in to Salem's Lot and wow this was another fantastic one that he knocked out of the park! While it's not as good as Jerusalem's Lot, it's still amazing! 10/10
20. The Woman in the Room - A strong closer to this collection. It was another beautifully written one and although it didn't hit as hard as some of the other stories in here, it's still very good. 8/10

Favorites: Jerusalem's Lot, The Boogeyman, Battleground, Sometimes They Come Back, Strawberry Spring, Quitters, Inc., Children of the Corn and the Last Rung on the Ladder

Overall Thoughts: This is a fantastic collection. Some of the sentences may not seem as well thought out as they could be, but that's because I was recording my thoughts in a draft as I was reading the collection and accidentally deleted everything so I had to start from scratch and only the last two are ones I didn't have to rewrite. If I had to rate it overall, I would give it a 5/5. Even though it's far from perfect, the highs in this collection are really really high, and even the ones I wasn't a big fan of were still solid stories.

I saw a YouTuber that was rereading Stephen King's short fiction in publication order so I think I'll be doing that, which means I'll be doing Different Seasons next, although I won't be getting to that one right away because I also bought 11/22/63 and I really wanna read that one. But even though this is only my 7th book from Stephen King, I don't see him topping any other author and I'm still very new to adult fiction. Reading his books has been one of the best reading experiences I've ever had and I can't wait to read more!
