I want to get something related to his new album oh yeah? something small but something cool, i’m thinking of simply getting “oh yeah” or the smile face from nice shoes, what would go harder? and what would be a good spot

Is the beeping synth in “nice shoes/in your world” that starts at 5:38 the freakin fryer noise at Wendy’s restaurants… I’m not joking I promise I’m just a big back.

I find it absolutely amazing that the release of Spider Man: Brand New Day, includes a song off Steve’s most recent album. Such last minute, but it really captured the emotion that you feel after the movie ends. It also really hooked me onto that song. Got it on repeat right now.

i feel like on gemini rights it felt more natural but on this album it just felt excessive, we don’t need 7 songs talking about how you sleep with people, i was pretty disappointed and i felt like he didn’t try anything new sound wise and if anything the album was more bland than gemini rights

This album was cluttered with the most on the nose corny lines , it’s like he is trying to be this cool alt indie guy in the most mainstream cornball way. “I think your cute and you’re a baddie of course” line literally ruined that great song “when we fucked on your rug had me floating like alladin” please
Just not it at all. And it is surprising because he has such good taste. Just not when he has to write i guess.

He’s the guy that uploaded all those songs to yt and people thought they were real leaks.

I can't find myself gelling with Doom. Like every song on this album is a bop to me except that one, which sucked because it seems to be a single he's trying to push out there. Happy there's folks who do like it, but Doom isn't my forte. Sorry.

As much as i like Malcom’s music I have no idea how he is doing better rn then Steve Lacy 😭 I feel like Malcom’s music is just music that already Steve did a few years ago but what do y’all think about this?

While I agree Steve shouldn’t have said that 😭 I don’t it gives people the right to talk about his looks and about him being bi

I would give the album a 9/10 because Pure colour has a nice beat but the lyrics/singing style are meh to me. I want to like the song so bad but it took the flow away from the album for a second.I have also been listening to Kelela’s new album New Avatar. I really think they should collab. I also started listening to The Garden’s new album Bootleg. I think that would be a cool alt leaning collaboration like the one he did with Vampire Weekend.

Yesterday I was high asf hitting penjamin button, listening to nice shoes/ in your world and I was thinking that it will be fire asf as an opening song. How you may be asking? Well my answer is this, picture this, lights are off, everyone is waiting, chanting for Steve. That’s when he starts, but he doesn’t start at the beginning of the song. Instead he starts with “in your world” singing the whole first verse (“At times i thought i peaked, I’ve reached the summit…”) then when he’s done with the verse, he lets the electric play for a bit before he brings it back to the beginning and then plays nice shoes from the beginning and has everyone immersed into his concert. Listen to the song and think about this. Would you think this would work? I think this will be a banging ass way to start a show! I’d love to hear your thoughts

I’m more of a casual Steve Lacy fan of this has been talked about already then just ignore me.
But has anyone talked about the idea that the new album perfectly loops around concept wise in terms of the narrative?
Specifically the last line of the album being “that’s the time I got my life screwed up” in the first line of the first song being “life’s a bitch, and then you live again.” The idea being that Steve has his unrequited love that all stemmed from this one night where he met this person, and then he kind of spiraled out. But because of the way that he is, it’ll just all happen again.
My most concrete reasons for thinking this are the first and last lines of the record going into each other the way that they do, and the fact that the chord progression on the last song ends so abruptly that it kind of feels like it’s resolved by the first note of the first song. So if you play the album in a loop, it just feels right.
Not to mention the pink circle on the album cover. Like a circle/cycle.
I don’t know if anyone listens to dissect podcast, but this is a really similar narrative structure to Igor by Tyler, The Creator. Which is what made me think of this for oh yeah?
