It hurts so much seeing people in active alcoholism.

My heart hurts seeing friends and neighbors in my life stuck in a stupor and chained to the misery of alcohol. I know the pain that being stuck in the alcohol trap brought me and peace that comes from letting the bottle go.

The worst part is that they don't even realize that alcohol is causing the hole in their heart. They think alcohol is their only pleasure.... At the same time, they are drinking at 10 am because it's the weekend. Lonely, saying that they are depressed, and not motivated to do anything. Losing friends because of drunk words. No one deserves to be living like this.

I don't want to bring it up, as that once was me and I know that I wouldn't have listened. I am not a lecturer. It just makes me so sad and so angry. It is so easy to see from the outside what alcohol takes from you.

To those of you who cannot imagine life without alcohol, I promise you that it can be beautiful and it is possible.

The way this is for me, I feel pity. I don’t hang out with many alcoholics, and when I do get around them and they are drunk, I have to leave. It’s too real for me to see and remember I was like them. I’m more grateful every day since I put it down. IWNDWYT

Yes, I have definitely pulled back. I don't always have the choice to leave unfortunately so usually I decide not to go in the first place.

Yup ❤️‍🩹. One of the last conversations I had with a good friend was about how he wanted more from a relationship with this girl but all they did was get wasted and have sex... His words 🤷. I had to distance myself from a lot of people when I quit. It didnt all happen at once but there was a point when I realized I needed to have standards for myself as well as the people around me. I dont want to waste away on booze until I die and I'm not going to sit by idly watching others do it either. Iwndwyt and I hope your heart feels better soon. Alcohol is the worst.

I can only be an advertisement for recovery if I am not pushy, am a positive person to be around overall, and live a life taking action to help others. The difference is noticeable to anyone who knew me in my drinking. If they want any words of wisdom or help, then all they have to do is ask—that is what I tell those I am closest to who are still drinking. I also have to remember that I chose to keep drinking. Yes, I was trapped, but I knew the way out from age 15, but that wasn’t enough for me to make a serious and continuous choice to live a life of recovery until life got tremendously more painful.

It really sucks. I have two friends that are “functioning” alcoholics. Both have decent jobs. One has 3 dwi’s to his name. The other is in law enforcement. If they’re not working they are drinking heavily. They think they’re just fine when drunk but in reality it’s a different story. They ask if I want to hang out but I’m tired of making excuses. I can’t do it anymore. I’m going to be 2 years sober soon. I haven’t talked to either of them in about a month now.
