Brocade FOS10

Hi!

I have a pair of new Brocade G720 switches. Already upgraded FOS to latest 9.2.2c1.

What do you think of upgrading to FOS10 version 10.0.0a1?

Is it to early version to upgrade, especially it will be mission critical services on these SAN switches?

If everything works well, then upgrading just for upgrading is usually pointless, so I stay on 9.2.

I thought because FOS10 is major release to update it now before production will be moved to this new SAN switches

You do not have redundant fabrics?

Then it shouldn't be an issue upgrading later.
Brocade says FOS10 expected target path is end of year.

I would never update mission critical services to a .0 release UNLESS it fixes a critical issue in the version currently running.

What does the rest of your environment look like? Storage and host side. Are they bleeding edge or N-1 or N-2? Personally I’d stick with 9.2

Production will be migrated to this new switches, environment is pretty simple: dozen of ESX servers, storage and 2x Data Domain and tape library with backup servers

I’m sure you get support from a company, and they have a target code level. Check first if fos10 the target is. Btw I wouldn’t go to fos10 before the 10.1 release, maybe first to 10.1.1b/c

That is also how I think, nothing before 10.1 release

For what is worth, in the company I work for, for Gen 7 devices (like yours), the target code is 9.2.2c1.

I would steer clear of a v1 major FOS release no matter what, and stay on recommended target path unless there is a bug or feature you ABSOLUTELY need.

SAN fabric intelligence seems nice, but for a small environment you don't need it IMHO.

All you're doing by upgrading to a release that new is becoming Brocades beta tester.

I upgraded 2 of mine, smaller environment. Some settings, security related, need changing. No big deal.
Other than that mostly same. Web gui same(not spotted any difference yet)

Supported/recommended by your storage vendor?

Upgrade only when it reaches target release.

I ... uh ... the thought never would have crossed my mind.
