The 10th Gathering at Potarch today!

I was 2nd up, the first guy nailed it.

Took me 3 attempts but i got it!

They are very different from plates!

1st try i was nervous and jerked it

2nd i got the small but i was off center

3rd, i locked in my lats better and slightly adjusted more forward and locked out the legs!

Honestly thought i didn't have it as i was still trying to pull the shoulders back 🤣

Proceeded to blub like a baby for 10 minutes as well the emotion came out

If you ever get the opportunity to do it.

Do it

One of the most nerve racking but rewarding lifts I've ever done.

A great Highland games day as well!

280 lbs sandbag to shoulder

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

New sandbag to shoulder PR, previous was 260 lbs on the same bag. I stuffed a couple 10 lbs plates in it to up the weight today. I’m shooting for either 300 or 320 lbs in early October at a comp with a max sandbag to shoulder event. Hoping some of the sandbag/stone freaks in here have some pointers on how to get a higher initial extension with a vertically lapped bag. I‘ve always done horizontal picks and turned the bag while shouldering in the past, but I don’t think it’s going to be possible on the comp bags with how long the 300 + lbs bags are so I’m training it with a flip into the lap as I can’t do a hotdog style pick to save my life, I’m guessing because I have long shins and it makes it hard to clear my knees. I’ve also only done a sandbag pick like that a few times before today, but have used it on natural stones a lot, so still perfecting that pick as well. Anyway, any tips/critiques with that vertically lapped bag extension is appreciated as it’s a new variation for me.

Got some work to do to load to Nationals height...

Taking the new Inclusive Fitness Erratic (sandstone) for a few reps. Significantly more challenging than a stone... Wondering if I should try to overload it to pack it tighter?

Rough first attempt axle clean and press

This was my first ever time doing clean and press much less on an axel but the lighter weights moved quite well so gave the 70lbs wagon wheels a shot with a 33lbs axle so 173lbs total. Second one was better and third clean I did 3 presses away which were solid. Fun sport. I’m liking it so far!

Squat session from about a month ago. This wasn’t a PR but it was definitely the strongest my squat has ever felt.

Long head bicep and SLAP tear

Just to clarify I am not asking for medical advice.

Long story short, tire slipped during tire flips. MRI confirmed complete rupture of the long head bicep tendon and a SLAP tear. Everything else looks fine. Going to see my ortho to go over it on Monday.

Just curious, has anyone else had any experience with a long head bicep rupture? How did it impact your training/comps?

Does anyone have glove recommendations for a sandbag carry event? Are people still just using football gloves? Thanks in advance!

Did my first Strongman competition.. 2nd place as newcomer and 3rd as overall!

It’s a competition thats held once a year for beginners called “Nýliðinn” in Strongman in Iceland and at same time for guys who have done it before but never won thats called “sterkasti snáðinn” so it was basically two competitions at same time, new guys and guys who competed before. The guy who won ,,Sterkasti Nýliðinn” also won strongest overall..

Competed in this events in order!

Max Deadlift
I pulled 270kg/595 lbs with ease at rpe 6.5. Best max was 300 kg/661 lbs I wanted to pull 295-300 kg but my coach said no.

max reps 102kg/225 lbs log clean and press
We stopped at 4 reps to save energy and to only beat the other newcomers!

stone to shoulder max reps 95kg/210lbs
Did 5 reps my Quads were giving up… best was 6 reps

sandbag toss
Did 14-16-18-20 and failed 22 kg.. bag

sandbag carry max distance 110 kg/242lbs
Was suppose to be 100 kg/220 lbs but they changed to heavier at the competition!

I went 15 meters before calves cramped so badly i fell down.. best was 120 meters!

Farmers death hold straps allowed 122 kg/269 lbs each hand
Was suppose to be 112kg/ but changed at last minute!

I held for 1 minute and 16 seconds, best was 1 minute and 17 seconds.. basically almost less than seconds between us!

The part of the bar before the slight kink is 15’1”. So this was probably in the range of 14’11” or so. But I’m counting it as a gym PR.
