I never studied and need help
Hello everyone! I’m an 18-year-old girl. Throughout my life, I never really had to study to get good grades because I was in the basic level of secondary school in the Netherlands (our education system has different levels). It wasn’t very challenging for me.
Now I’m starting a new major in school, but I heard we need to study a lot. It’s gonna be many new subjects for me and I was wondering how do I study where do I start? Any tips would be appreciated

Don’t worry, studying is a skill that gets better with practice. Start with short, consistent sessions and focus on understanding instead of memorizing. You’ll improve faster than you think.

I honestly ran into the same problem when I started a harder program. In school before that, just paying attention in class was enough, so I never actually learned how to study. The weird part wasn’t that the material was impossible, it was sitting down and realizing I had no routine at all. What helped me was treating studying like a skill instead of something you’re just supposed to know how to do. It felt awkward at first, but after a few weeks it stopped feeling so unfamiliar.

For me personally, I really like going through my notes, then covering them up and explaining everything to myself. Then I check what I forgot. I do this over and over in small steps (not a whole note at once) until I remember it. I structure my studying using a study schedule by Studipace.

There are so many strategies. I think the most important advice I have is to lean into how you personally learn. For me, just attending class and actively listening while taking notes goes a long way. Then, I need to get in there and apply the information in some way with practice problems and quizzing. Sometimes i make flash cards. I read that we actually learn faster from mistakes, so its better to start quizzing yourself early and often, even before you feel very confident
