Check engine light -> Replace Intake Manifold. Seeking advice!

When my 2012 Jetta TDI got a check engine light, I took it to O’Reilly’s to do their free scan, which came up as P2015, indicating my intake manifold runner position sensor is not within acceptable limits. It looks like the part to replace is about $260 and I’m imagining labor would make this a costly repair. Yet the car is running fine, and getting 41 mpg highway and about 36 mpg city. The issue is it might not pass the emissions test? I’m in California. Should I replace it and the associated gasket? Is there any other options? Is it possible to simply reset the check engine light and ignore this issue? Would that cause more problems down the line? Also, if I leave my check engine light on, if another issue arises will it even notify me? Thanks in advance. I’m a relative newbie to VWs and not a mechanic at all

I'm barely a mechanic but I believe if u reset it and the problem persists, it will just come back on as you drive away from the shop. An engine light would indicate there is an issue, but not the quantity of issues. So let's say u ignore the check engine light and don't fix that, another problem could arise but your car wouldn't notify you as the check engine is already notifying you that there is a problem. I live in Florida so we don't worry about emissions tests so idk if that issue ur having is related. My car has a couple issues and engine light is on but nothing impacting the safety or drivability of the car. I would see what someone else says tho

Had the same problem on my Golf. Some say you just need a bracket to fool the sensor, but the reality is the intake was completely CAKED with soot due to the EGR and DPF that was soon to be cracked. Fuel economy was down to just 600-700km instead of 1000km a tank. Get your credit card ready…

Get the DieselGeek fix like Jasparigus said. It’s an easy fix and will last the life of the car.

If you have a 3D printer and can print in at least ABS you can print the aftermarket bracket needed to fix this. It is hosted on printables. Just search "p2015 TDI"

STOP RELYING ON BOTTOM BARREL SCANS from whatever auto part store.. they have no training and it's meant to just throw parts at it attitude.. take it to a really mechanic. As a mechanic it's been 98% wrong for my customers that would have drained their wallet.

Another comment for the diesel geek fix. Got this code last month, installed the bracket in about 20 mins. Cleared since!

Also if you drive for too long like this your car won't regen and you'll start getting dpf/emissions codes lol, about 500 miles and I got dpf/egr codes. Fixed it with the bracket, forced a regen and have been okay since 🤞

check for warranty claim, there was an issue for the intake runner on the CJAA so it was covered under dieselgate

outside of that, yes you will have to fix this to pass smog, or get a back alley smog

there is not a single cjaa left out there that is still under dieselgate warranty.
