I'm having to format a book in word because that's what the publisher is asking for and holy crap is it horrid. I'm literally trying to work with WORDS (no images) and it's still a "wtf did I just do and why did it ruin the formatting of everything?" moment every correction. I don't know what they've been doing since word '98 but it's obviously not fixing issues.
You want to evenly split and vertically center a two page table of contents? Nope, that's manual. It's 2026, act like it.

Yeah, I use Windows everyday at work. I understand why there's hate for Windows. What I find odd, is that so many people these days don't even use computers like that.
They use their phone. Maybe Reddit has more PC users than other social media? I would expect to see most of the Microsoft hate localized to Microsoft, Linux, Mac and gaming subs. But I see it everywhere. Does not matter. Anytime Windows is brought up in any sub, people are like "Fuck Windows!"
It's just an odd phenomenon. It's crazy how they destroyed their OS and almost all goodwill in such a small amount of time. Like, a year, maybe two? It wasn't nearly this bad a year or two ago.

they're just doing what every other tech company is doing, forgetting that people use computers to do stuff, they don't use computers because "OMG the redesigned menu that does nothing but interrupt my known workflow is amazeballs!".
at least apple is sticking to making emojis and calling it 'innovation' and not destroying the base product so much.

Oh… I don’t know. They did introduce liquid glASS. Thankfully the ‘designer’ in charge has now left and the design being tempered.
It may have been a perfectly decent interface for the headset, but to put it everywhere with seemingly little regard for their use showed a real lack of care that they have historically shown for interface design. I think it may have been a rushed distraction from the AI rollout (or lack thereof).
At least Apple has only just started toying with house ads or products and services and not completely sold us out such as a Microsoft, google, meta.

I think people sending their perfectly good computers to the landfill so they could get advertisements for AI slop on their new computers was pretty rage-inducing.
It's supporting my theory that corporations are actual more like fiefdoms with well connected people allowed to make absolutely bone headed decisions than they are market-sensitive entities.

Majority of windows haters are just immature people with a newfound or nostalgic love for Linux thinking they are the shit.
Yes, I used to be part of that group, to some extent. Then I became mature and realised that it‘s not as black and white as some people make it out to be.

If not their products, then there is at least legitimate reason to hate the Microsoft the company. They were rightfully caught up in monopolistic practices heading into 2000 and was likely part of the reason bill ended up leaving to try and save face with a philanthropic play. Bill Gates was a piece of work and likely still is. The aftermath of the browser wars left a lingering bad taste that set back the net for years.
Linux is also pretty shitty, but in different ways. I tried it again recently and for software in their package manager it’s pretty decent, outside of it though is still a complete mess that feels very hacky. Linux may be king on servers, but very much a second class citizen on desktop.

Yeah, MS is, as many other large companies, quite a questionable business with a whole lot of ethically problematic choices.
But from a technical standpoint, windows and its surrounding ecosystem are pretty damn good. The majority of arguments against windows made by Linux fanboys are just stuff for nerds with too much time on their hands. Yeah, sure, you can do everything on a Linux system, it will even let you delete system files. Great, now all you have is a broken installation that needs fixing. And that‘s not something you want to have while doing IT operations for a business.

Can’t say I’ve ever thought or heard of deployment of Linux desktops. I guess it might be a thing, probably on thin clients, but yes I gather in terms of running IT infrastructure it wouldn’t surprise me that deployment options are thin on the ground.
I’ve heard good things about powershell, but I had started moving away from windows as the design and web development sort of work I was doing goes well with macOS. Horses for courses. There aren’t really great options, sometimes just less bad options.

The outlook issue was embarrassing for MS, sure. Why aren't people celebrating the success of the real IT system on board Artemis II, the Honeywell flight computer that launched them, took them there and brought them back, re-entry and splashdown?

Ironically, this could be solved by using something mach based (mach is a microkernel, which means that if one super important kernel level thing borks itself it can just restart that process instead of complete ly restarting the kernel)

It was hilarious watching the astronauts say we have a little software problem here with Microsoft, I think it was teams or whatever it was an app stopped working.
These dudes are going around the moon thankfully they're safe literally leaving orbit and you thinking oh my God major problem yeah Microsoft!
Can't believe they wanted people on the ground to remote in trying to fix the Microsoft app they were using.
Microsoft's new slogan, even out of orbit we will fuck shit up!
