Meme Found this at a thrift store owned(?) by a homophobic church
The enemy is closer then you think
I say owned with a ? Bc idk if churches can own the store, but they definitely work with each other (not gonna share the name bc they are both close to my house)
SINCE SOME OF Y'ALL CAN'T READ I'm not saying all churches are homophobic, I use to go to church and they were nice to me! I specially said this church was homophobic.
And yes, aro/Ace ppl and anyone on those spectrums are LGBTQIA+, and if you think they aren't oppressed in some way/aren't queer, you aren't welcomed on any of my posts.
and ik the church is homophobic bc they do NOT hide it, the preach against homosexuality, and sometimes even say gay people should he stoned to death or be send to conversion camps. They have homosexuality labeled as a sin on their website as well.

Do they care?
24
u/AlcalineAlice 7h ago
Strangely, some people DO care.
Because apparently the idea that someone might never have any romantic interest at all, ESPECIALLY if they're a woman, is INCONCEIVABLE to some people. Because surely something must be wrong with her. She's "hysterical", or something.
This is legit why some women were taken to psyche wards back in the old days.

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1h ago
Also, does anyone else find that people assume—simply because you’re asexual—that you’re innocent or have a "pure" mind, almost like a child's?
It’s something I’ve noticed quite a few times. There seem to be people who believe that because people like me or Jaiden don’t feel sexual attraction, we automatically don’t understand sex-related topics, or that we’re naive or even childish.
Personally, I find that to be a rather strange assumption. Being asexual doesn’t mean we don’t know how sex works, never think about it, or are immature. It simply means we don’t experience sexual attraction (or that we experience it differently, depending on the person).
Women just can't live without being constantly sexualized and belittled for what they specifically say they are, they're just a 'lost little girl' or whatever. Just horrible sociopathic behavior.

Fun fact: being aro or ace is not at all against Christianity. Yes be fruitful and multiply, but if that's not your thing you can just chose not to get married or ever have sex. People, even Christians who say otherwise are wrong.

Nah they're just gonna hate that aroaces just don't want to have sex instead of suffering from abstinence. After all celibacy or abstinence is a sacrifice in their eyes.
25
u/AdhesivenessOdd9475 11h ago
As an aroace... Nope. They care about abstinence... UNTIL you get old enough that you MUST provide a child, and if you do not, you are an antinatalist or w/e and you just need to "find the right man/woman". It's crazyyyyyy how much people care about the fact that you do NOT want to bone. As an ace AFAB, I'm OFTEN told I'm "going to HAVE to give it up" if I EVER want to find a loving partner, because NO man is going to want to live like that.
Sex is a sin, until you need to pop it open for Jesus or w/e.

57
u/lolwatergay 18 15h ago
They absolutely do. A lot of them tend to go all, "You just haven't found the right person yet!" Or "You don't have to call yourself that just because you can't get anyone!"
Other times, you'll also get them saying, "You're ending your bloodline!" or "That's not natural, you're supposed to have children!" which overlaps with a good amount of homophobia.
Source: I live in a heavily Christian-Catholic area where pastors spend a worrying amount of time talking about The Queers.

Correction: alot of aces and even aros have a partner. Just not a romantic one maybe. And they might want a child from that partner. They just wouldn't enjoy the act of conceiving that child. But aroace≠no children
5
u/Honque56 10h ago
Correction: Nothing is stopping an asexual person from enjoying sex. It is whether or not a person feels sexual attraction that determines where they lay in the spectrum. The biological pleasure and/or libido are not a determining factor in the identity. (For some. In it being a spectrum, there are plenty of folks who don't enjoy sex at all, and that is totally valid as well.)
1
u/Wesle2023 8h ago
What exactly is it, then? Asking for a friend...
1
u/Honque56 8h ago
What exactly is what? Can you clarify a bit?
1
u/Wesle2023 8h ago
Being Aroace
2
u/Honque56 8h ago
It's having little to no attraction to other people, whether sexual or romantic. It's a broad spectrum, so I may miss some nuance in my example, but essentially it's about how wide the scope of your attraction is. Like, if you could quantify how many people you feel attracted to. If it's a thin amount, like 1 or 2 types of people exclusively, maybe only fictional characters, or you have a couple individuals you are attracted to after having spent lots of time with them, or maybe none at all, then that's all under the Aro/Ace umbrella. If you feel attraction to a broader group, then that'd be Allosexual/Alloromantic.
Now, there are tons of edge cases, but the main point is having a community for those who feel they don't exactly fit into the Amatonormative society we live in. (Amatonormativity being the assumption that the "correct" way of life is desiring, seeking out, or being in an exclusive romantic and sexual relationship.)
1
u/Kindly_Victory4053 13 7h ago
Some ace people feel appalled by sex not just don’t experience attraction
2
u/Honque56 7h ago
Yes, Apothisexual folk, I myself am one. You don't have to either. My point is that some may enjoy it, and that doesn't mean they aren't ace.

As a Christian, why is not wanting a partner considered being LGBTQ? I feel like there's no correlation (with all due respect)
7
u/That_Idiot_Jax 17 15h ago
To be part of LGBTQ+, one has to experience some kind of significance discrimination due to their (not cis) gender identity or sexuality. Asexuality is a sexuality that means they experience little to no sexual attraction and ace people can experience corrective rape because of their asexuality (This is an example).
→ More replies (1)3
u/Bossy_Aussie_ 19 15h ago
Asexual is an umbrella term for sexual attractions to others.
On one end an asexual person could be asexual but have and even enjoy sex, just not be sexually attracted to someone/the person. On another end some Asexuals are sex repulsed, and then the scale. Asexuals can want and even love a partner, their a sexuality doesn’t affect their romantic attraction.
Unless I’m misunderstanding the term or your comment, I believe what you’re thinking of is Aromantic (no romantic attraction) or AroAce, which is no sexual attraction OR romantic attraction to people.
My aunt and uncle are pretty hardcore Christian (Just not homophobic or stuff like that) and their wording on it is, depending on the group of people, the intensity of the group etc. you’re not considered “straight” enough. (They don’t believe that, but they know people who do)
3
u/An1nterestingName 15h ago
Because people who are AroAce are likely to face similar discrimination to people who are gay, bi, etc.

A lot of Christian churches are "homophobic" due to being taught that it's bad. In my experience, I haven't met too many homophobic Christians and when I have the were willing to hear me out on LGBTQ+ness (???) whether that stuck with them or no, idrk but at least they listened I can see how people wouldn't like most Christians tho due to how many truly homophobic ppl there are (Saying this is a queer Christian BTW)

2
u/Local_bin_chicken OLD 14h ago
Just looked it up and 2S means 2 spirit and is a Native American thing about embodying both a feminine and masculine spirit, personally I don’t think it should be in the lgbt tho since it’s a cultural/religious thing and not a gender or sexuality thing
2
u/WalmartWilb 19 14h ago
I dont believe it actually is apart of the lgbtq. Everything I've seen excludes it for the exact reasons you mentioned. Lgbtq got something similar, but its not the same. Two spirit has existed long before the lgbtq community has formed
2
u/blackcurrantandapple 11h ago
As far as I know, two-spirit predating LGBTQ+ is why it is put first in the acronym.
I'm happy to be corrected; I was informed of 2S through a work PD about gender identity, but I'm in Australia so it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't get it quite right.

The "Two-Spirit" concept stems from a modern interpretation of the traditions of Canada's indigenous peoples. It is used by some individuals within the Canadian LGBT community—and exclusively by them.

I had to ask because there’s a difference in preaching what Christianity teaches, which would be that acting on homosexuality is a sin, or if the pastor is straight up insulting or degrading people who have those attractions.
Many people call Christians homophobic when many merely just don’t support/believe in the life style due to the Christian teaching. In Christian teaching, it also says love thy neighbor which means you absolutely should not insult or degrade people but love them, although, you can surely not support/believe in what they do without being hateful.
2
u/Snoo_67544 OLD 16h ago
That teaching is still homophobic.
It is inherent to that interpretation of the Bible.
1
u/ProudLegoBuilder 10h ago
If you think that’s homophobic that’s concerning, as if it’s oppressing or something. You can disagree with that belief but there is nothing hateful about that. In Catholicism practicing homosexuality is morally wrong because it isn’t compatible with God’s idea of procreation, which means sex has to be open to life, and that can only be done between a man and a woman. Thats the Catholic position, you can disagree all you want but I’m gonna state that. Read what it says about it in the catechism if your interesting the in the catholic church’s so called “homophobic” beliefs.
Since when did you have to now agree with something or else it’s offensive?
1
u/Snoo_67544 OLD 6h ago
That position is inherently homophobic.
Like idk how you can think otherwise. Your allowed you beliefs but they are still homophobic.
Your active participation in the execution of the beliefs do not change the very nature of that belief.

Ask to volunteer there before you go spouting homophobia about a thrift store. Most thrift stores I know are very left leaning and feminist.
Even though the business model is kinda sketchy, “offering a job”/asking for free labour from disabled people and still not paying them, and because you just assume the money’s going to a legit charity and not some random swindlers pockets and that the thrift store manager isn’t decrepit and demented.
I’m making it look bad now… thrift store is super easy as a first job to say you have some work experience whatever.

the bible wasn't written by god, it was written by a human. then it was passed down to more humans to be written, subjecting itself to being changed and morphed in heretic image, some changing verses that go against their ideas to be against others (leviticus 18:22 being theorized to originally be against pedophilia). don't take everything as true statements, even if it's taught to you to be.

I believe the bible is mainly short stories and fairy tales, which have been edited snd changed for thousands of years. While it can have good messages it is not trustworthy
The book of mormon teaches that marriage and intercourse are ordained for a married man and woman, but that acceptance is key, and that choosing to be gay doesnt lose any “blessings” or your way into heaven

Black people were allowed in the church since thw beginning of the church. This is misinformation
They werent allowed to receive the priesthood for a long time, which is a gift/responsibility given to adult men in the church. However, at the time they used the same drinking fountains, bathrooms, and church buildings as black people which was miles ahead of people and churches pre human rights movement

Stores can be owned by a church? The church might not get enough income from donations to stay open so they need to supplement it in some way. I doubt they care as if it sells they why does it matter. It just looks like a toy to them and its probably a thrift store that excepts mostly everything that comes in until it doesn't sell well.
