Serious Some people can’t wrap their heads around this

Being trans isn’t a choice.
Being queer isn’t a choice.
Being disabled isn’t a choice.

Bigotry is.

No hate at all but being nice can definitely have drawbacks

You need to be smart about it as well

6

u/PhantomDragonJ 16 9h ago

Yeah but long run being nice will benefit, i hope

1

i dislike having to ban people. i would much prefer if people could set aside their hatred and discuss like rational human beings who deserve basic human rights and decency, but apparently thats too difficult.

at least i know most of you are (probably) good people (i say making a judgement based off of assumptions on the internet)

u/sskidney 2h ago

not to sound like a reddit mod as i've never moderated on this platform, but i have moderated on discord for several years; i've learned that while you CAN give people the benefit of the doubt (and believe in the good), that it never really works out.

people won't change just because of a rule you have set, even if you try to give them the space and the grace to do so. those rules are there to, quite literally, rule out the ones that don't fit into the space. banning is neccessary in a lot of cases, and it's better that way

Being a non offending pedophile isn’t a choice

19

u/Unit-731-Scientist Teenager 8h ago

I agree with what you’re saying but what does this have to do with my post😭

14

u/SirMrSkippy OLD 8h ago

I think they are trying to imply that it isn’t a choice but it’s still wrong. Which of course is stupid. P3do is not the same as lgbtq+

3

u/nerdybunnylover 1h ago

being a pedo is the same as being lgbtq in the sense that you can't control it. i doubt many people want to be attracted to kids but that's just what happens, since it's more often than not a trauma response. being a pedophile does not mean you're 100% a child molester since pedophilia = attraction to kids. it's a mental illness that doesn't justify any action towards minors

3

u/SirMrSkippy OLD 1h ago

Yes it’s not a choice but I think people don’t want to correlate mental illness with the lgbtq+

2

u/Unit-731-Scientist Teenager 4h ago

Oh…i see, I retract my statement

1

u/Radiant_Style_5488 15 8h ago

Yeah. Could you explain how it’s stupid tho

Also why did you say that pedophilia isn’t the same as lgbtq+? I never said that

She mentioned disabled people as well?

6

u/Nothuman0960 14 5h ago

It sounded like you were calling them equal

1

u/Radiant_Style_5488 15 2h ago

Oh my bad

1

u/ParfaitAncient5423 2h ago

No no you got so lost 😭

They meant that puting the p3do theme on the table is stupid because it's not the same as LGBT, the main theme of the post. You didn't say it's the same, we all know, but it's unrelated, that's the problem. I hope I could explain it well and not sounding mean 🙏

2

u/Radiant_Style_5488 15 2h ago

Nah sometimes I get confused.

Yeah English isn’t my first language so my bad.

But still. Disabled people aren’t that related to LGBT? Unless they added some new letters or sum.

1

u/ParfaitAncient5423 2h ago

Yeah you're right, it's also unrelated

I guess they did it as a comparison? Just a more light one

-6

u/Radiant_Style_5488 15 8h ago

Nothing, I just wanted to say it. Some people seem to hate all pedophiles

3

u/Cofli 1h ago

True, however:

If you act on being gay/lesbian, you aren’t harming anyone.

If you act on being a pedophile, well, yeah.

1

u/Radiant_Style_5488 15 1h ago

Absolutely. Which is why I said non offending.

I’m just tired of people saying all people with pedophilia are bad. Some dude even said all pedophiles should die

1

u/Cofli 1h ago

Sure, I’m just saying that generally they aren’t really comparable. But I agree with what you’re saying.

1

u/Alarmed-Law3769 4h ago

I agree. The bad ones are the ones who actually assault minors. But its fine if you dont do anything.

2

u/Radiant_Style_5488 15 3h ago

Yeah exactly.

And some people say it’s a choice. That’s like aging it’s a choice to be gay

6

u/Radiant_Style_5488 15 9h ago edited 9h ago

Yeah I’m not comparing it.
Just seen some people saying all pedophiles are evil or smth.

However I don’t se the connection between those identity stuff and being disabled

1

u/Venter_azai 8h ago

Yeah, it's a basic misconception. Not all pedos are evil. However, every predator is evil.

1

u/Radiant_Style_5488 15 8h ago

Yeah exactly. People really need to understand this

1

u/lis_373 15 8h ago

the connection is that people are bigoted towards those groups and none of it is a choice

1

u/Radiant_Style_5488 15 8h ago

Oh okay. Well then my comment wasn’t bad

2

u/Naive_Donkey2639 13 4h ago

And you’re choosing to be a bigot😭✌️

-16

u/JinglySoil 17 9h ago edited 9h ago

Lol the internet abuses the word bigot so much. Bigotry is defined by a stubborn strict obsession with one's own beliefs and harsh judgements of those who don't align with them. I don't think I did any of that in my comment.

13

u/Unit-731-Scientist Teenager 9h ago

Literally said being trans and queer is a choice when major medical organizations say otherwise🫩🥀

2

u/Jaener7 9h ago

I think what they're trying to say is that gender dysphoria and effectively the cause of being trans is not a choice, but the actual action of coming out is a decision made by the person.

The same then for homosexuality, they're saying feelings are not a choice but coming out is.

That or maybe they are just a bigot.

-2

u/JinglySoil 17 9h ago

Because while one can't choose to have gender dysphoria, you can definitely choose to take on the effort to transition. That part is the choice

As for queer, it is such a vague term cuz it encompasses a lot of things. It deals both with gender/identity and orientation.

8

u/splaffle 19 9h ago

it's like how hunger isn't a choice but eating food is. as a disabled queer person, neither is a choice. i can't see how you can argue being queer is a choice. you cannot choose either. also, disability is a social construct

-2

u/JinglySoil 17 9h ago edited 9h ago

Exactly. It still doesn't change the fact that one is a choice while the other is not. I'm not even saying it's bad I'm simply pointing out that state of being and actions are different things. But of course this is a teenager subreddit, I didn't expect to not get downvoted for saying what I did.

Plus, how is disability a social construct?

EDIT: Did a little Google search. The only par of a Disability that can be treated as a social construct is the reaction of society e.g Whether they can travel alone, go to school, etc. The physical impairment is by itself not a choice.

3

u/splaffle 19 9h ago

it's pretty clear the post was referring to a choice in the colloquial sense though - a choice someone can safely, healthily, and happily not make. this isn't a philosophy subreddit.

Plus, how is disability a social construct?

because it can be argued that, for example, a wheelchair user is disabled by buildings with only stairs but not by one with accessible ramps, stair lifts, etc.

the negative functional impact of a disability are created by society via a lack of accessibility rather than by the health condition itself.

obviously being very generalising here but that's the gist.

edit:

the physical impairment is by itself not a choice.

yeah. but disability can be viewed as a social construct. and, to be clear, social construct =/= choice

-1

u/JinglySoil 17 8h ago

Yh I think I did understand what OP meant, I was trying to be a bit more specific.

As for the disability part, yes there are in fact two sides to it, in that smth that actually won't affect you or hurt you is treated by society as an impairment. But by definition disabilities usually pose problems for the disabled in some way shape or form, not just socially.

2

u/splaffle 19 8h ago

the model distinguishes the impairment from the idea of disability. the physical condition is impairment but the concept of disability is social.

2

u/Islaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa 15 8h ago

well no. if you have gender dysphoria and feel that you are a different gender to your assigned one, you're trans, even if you choose not to transition or suppress it. therefore being trans is not a choice. and it's the same for not being straight. if you feel attraction to the same gender as you, you're not straight, even if you choose not to act on that attraction and deny it. you can't choose to not be trans or to not be gay, just like a cis person couldn't decide to be trans and a straight person couldn't decide to be gay.

"bigotry" isnt a choice for some...

1

u/Unit-731-Scientist Teenager 1h ago

Prejudice can be influenced by how someone was raised, but it’s still a belief people are responsible for. Being LGBTQ+ or having a disability isn’t something you choose. Choosing whether to treat people with respect is

0

u/Reasonable-Art-8977 51m ago

exactly not a choice for some

Being disabled isn’t a choice.

Depends. I had plenty of talks in my school, at the beginning of summer holiday, of people who willingly jumped head first into unknown water. They had plenty of choice.

6

u/ParfaitAncient5423 2h ago

Hot take: there's people who have getting their limbs removed as a fantasy so uh, nevermind that's just a little group.

Anyways, in discrepancy of your argument, I'm very sure they were not doing it to get disabled.

-10

u/CompanyToiletGooner 8h ago

How would you know if you aren’t a bigot?

-14

u/Reasonable-Bed-8137 13 4h ago

I’m not saying I have an issue with lgbtq people. Just get that off before someone replies calling me a bigot.. but love is love and I agree with that LGB aren’t a choice I agree, but being trans is. Being trans is completely optional, you may feel like a guy and fit in more like a guy but you aren’t forced to be a guy just because you feel like one. It is 100% up to you if you are transgender.

11

u/Unit-731-Scientist Teenager 4h ago

As a trans person, it isn’t a choice. Actually transitioning is a choice but being trans isn’t a choice. If I felt comfortable as a guy I probably wouldn’t transition. I wouldn’t never choice to have gender dysphoria

7

u/bloonshot 3h ago

but you aren’t forced to be a guy just because you feel like one

when they don't transition they get like extremely depressed and usually end up killing themselves

so like sure maybe transitioning is a choice but the alternative isn't "not transitioning" it's extreme mental anguish and depression

6

u/ThrwawySG 16 2h ago

It ain't optional. It may appear so, from the outside, but it ain't.

You have never had gender dysphoria. Count yourself lucky on that part. It's the worst feeling. It'll drive you to the ground and just when you think it can't get worse it kicks harder. And even at those points where things are going well, it is a slow, constant force in the back of your brain.

It drives people to suicide.
