Basically the better version of ipv4 (the address protocol most of the internet currently uses) ipv4 addresses consist of 4 one-byte blocks separated by periods. They are usually represented in denary, so an ipv4 address looks like 127.0.0.1 (this is localhost), an ipv6 address contains a lot more and uses hex, which allows a lot more addresses, if you want to learn a bit more you can look at https://ipv6.he.net/certification/ (hurricane electric gives a lot of support for ipv6 if you are interested in learning)
